Led Zeppelin. Kind of like Nirvana in that there are people who think they're the best thing to happen to music ever but really they don't have all that many good songs. Good, sure, not great.
I don't think you listened to them at all if you really think songs like Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir aren't great songs.
Stairway has lost pretty much all it's appeal to me, blame overplaying.
As for Kashmir - it's cool and all but it hasn't aged well. That's probably Led Zep's problem; their songs don't age well.
It wasn't a great song the first time you heard it? And how does Kashmir not age well? One of the greatest riffs and melodics I have ever heard.
my band used to play kashmir. it's basically a d chord played slowly for 8 and a half minutes. sorry man, but i always found it a boring song. they have much better stuff than that
Well it's either not your type of song or your not a good musician to mix it up a little.
playing the same chord over and over is mixing it up? i'm confused.

i'd take stairway over kashmir any day. i guess it just ain't my kind of song

i'd take black country woman, south bound suarez, nobody's fault but mine, no quarter, ramble on, the rover, custard pie, since i've been loving you, in the light ....
When I said mix it up a little I meant to make it more interesting like when they played live, sorry if I was unclear.

I would take Kashmir over all except Stairway because I prefer the riffs.

The list goes on...and on...and on...
Heh heh. You just alienated about half of Escapist with that list. ;)
Meh, if they have such a problem with my list and feel the need to defend it, then they either have doubts about their taste in music or can't respect people's opinions

oh, i see what you mean. you should hear our version of jumpin' jack flash, we play it pretty intense. we haven't played kashmir in a couple years, though.

you enjoy the music, my man

RADIOHEAD - Thom Yorke's vocals destroyed any credibility this band could have accomplished. However I did actually like some songs off of "Hail to the Thief". I just wish they could "up" their sound a bit.

Tool - Yes, they are a good band...yes they are creative in many departments, but holy shit...THEIR LYRICS ARE NOT THAT DEEP. Every druggie on teh face of existence likes to talk about the meaning of their lyrics when it's probably just Maynard doing acid in his basement making up random words.

Mars Volta - Again, the vocals killed it for me.

John Lennon - His work with the Beatles was awesome but his solo albums were atrocious. McCartney and Harrison were the true talent pioneers in terms of solo work.

Slayer - Their first several albums were great, dark, and spellbinding. Then they started to go down the path of the mainstream bands.

Greenday. 3 chord pop gash at its worst.

Wut

I heard it's popular to hate Green Day.If anything, they're underrated.
Musically,as in guitar technique...they weren't rated very high anyway.

I like to think of them as story-tellers rather than amazing musicians.

...AC-DC. I'm vaguely aware that AC-DC is supposed to be good, but I am sick to the teeth of hearing that they end up at the top of every "Best Rock-Band of all Time" countdown things. It's not that I'm just sick of hearing about them, but their sound begins to grate on my nerves very quickly, and I seriously doubt they deserve all the hype they have.
I have always been amazed that they have toured for so long and released so many albums by releasing the same song over and over again. It all sounds the same.

Whatever mows your lawn I guess. There are still plenty of people who think Green Day is the best thing since sliced bread when all I hear is a mediocre band churning out pop for angst ridden teens.

I guess I just don't get it. I don't hate the band, I just don't see the appeal and have no idea how they fill arenas.

*Activate flame shield*
Sunny Day Real Estate
The Get-up Kids
Jimmy Eat World

There's more I just can't think right now.

you gotta see it from my standpoint...they are good bands but people think they are the ONLY ones and think they are the ones who started the genre.

Agreed,I don't like them personally but I think that people hate them for no reason, they are far from fake they made there way to the top and they're there for a reason.

Green Day was okay when they were that cute little wannabe-punk band that hit it big in the early-to-mid-90's... But then when "American Idiot" dropped, the industry was already in it's death throes and they tried to rally around Green Day as "the saviours of the rock".....That was when i started to hate them. They just are not THAT good.

I listen to a lot of music, probably more than you so don't even go there.
Let me guess, you consider your tastes to be eclectic.
Where did I say that?

My Father has a huge collection of records all the way back to the 40s and is sharing them all with me, so I say I know a lot.
So because you listen to music from the 40's you have listened to more music than me? You don't even know what I've listened to. How do you make such a bold statement? How many genres of music have your explored? How can you say with any sort of quantitative evidence that you know more than I do about music?

You know what, forget it. This is just becoming a pissing match.

they've sold more records than any other band on earth besides the beatle
Except, they're not even in the top 20 of best selling artists of all time... Here, have a look:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists

OT: Any band that has released over 5 albums in the past 20 years.
