Led Zeppelin. Kind of like Nirvana in that there are people who think they're the best thing to happen to music ever but really they don't have all that many good songs. Good, sure, not great.
I don't think you listened to them at all if you really think songs like Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir aren't great songs.
Stairway has lost pretty much all it's appeal to me, blame overplaying.
As for Kashmir - it's cool and all but it hasn't aged well. That's probably Led Zep's problem; their songs don't age well.
It wasn't a great song the first time you heard it? And how does Kashmir not age well? One of the greatest riffs and melodics I have ever heard.
my band used to play kashmir. it's basically a d chord played slowly for 8 and a half minutes. sorry man, but i always found it a boring song. they have much better stuff than that
Well it's either not your type of song or your not a good musician to mix it up a little.
playing the same chord over and over is mixing it up? i'm confused.

i'd take stairway over kashmir any day. i guess it just ain't my kind of song

i'd take black country woman, south bound suarez, nobody's fault but mine, no quarter, ramble on, the rover, custard pie, since i've been loving you, in the light ....

Snip also!

Thanks to the both of you for the recommendations. Truth be told, I've only heard Meat is Murder, so chances are my views on the band are very skewed, but I still love How Soon Is Now, even if it is overplayed and stuffs.

Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead, U2, Muse , lady Gaga, Dizzy rascal, The Beatles, Kanye west I really could just keep going but they are the most overrated in the world..... OH wait how could i forget Kings of (swearword of your choice hear) leon
Wut... Muse is overrated? Again, I know this is skewed because I am, without a doubt, a Muse fanboy myself, but as I've seen it, they tend to be kind of... err... not-popular. Most people I know don't even know of them, let alone like them and worship them. Again, I know it's biased, but I don't think Muse is really overrated. Besides, Matthew Bellamy is not only damned sexy, but awesome as a vocals/guitarist, something I've not seen done well in almost any other band.

On Topic

Animal Collective. A lot of my friends are indy-enthusiasts, and I agree that there are plenty of great indy bands. However, ever since "Merriwheather News Report" came out, I've not heard an end to the praise. And truth be told, it's not really that great an album... a few good songs, but the rest is just kinda weird and... well, to me sounds crappy. Animal Collective is sometimes good, but they're not as wonderful as many people make them out to be.

It has to be said: Deathklok. I love them, they're hilarious and metal-tastic, but people praise them so much mostly because (if not only because) of their show, Metalocalypse, which might as well be Happy Tree Friends for death-metal fans. Again: good, but not amazing.

Queen. They were not rock gods, and playing a crap song on top of Buckingham Palace with permission to do so is not "Rock n Roll" in the slightest. Mercury could sing like an angel, but the songs were dull and uninteresting. At least the drummer and bassist don't milk it like May does...

Morrissey. He has a few nice songs. That's IT. Stop acting like he's a gift from the Almighty.

On that note: The Doors. Not bad, but severely overrated.

As much as I sound like a mustaine lover right now : Metallica and the fans of metallica who refuse to give Megadeth a chance. (Seriously give Megadeth an actual chance you will be suprised)
I have never liked MEtallica, but I think Megadeth is absolutely awesome! So I agree with you, Aruseusx.

I haven't stopped singing "How Soon Is Now?" since the first time I heard it about two weeks ago... xD
Well in that case, I'm going to assume you've only just recently gotten into the Smiths, and I pray that you take the opportunity to take a look at their other work. I don't think the Smiths are overrated, but I certainly believe "How Soon Is Now" to be the most overrated song they ever made. Strangeways is my avatar.

I'm going to vote anything that can be classified as rap or hip-hop and AC-DC. I'm vaguely aware that AC-DC is supposed to be good, but I am sick to the teeth of hearing that they end up at the top of every "Best Rock-Band of all Time" countdown things. It's not that I'm just sick of hearing about them, but their sound begins to grate on my nerves very quickly, and I seriously doubt they deserve all the hype they have.
i pretty much hate all of ac/dc's singles, but their older albums with their original singer had a lot more punch. if you took songs like Riff Raff or Rock & Roll Man, and compared them to Shook Me All Night Long, you'd swear they were two separate bands. but overall, they aren't that interesting.

plus the only song i really know by the smiths was a song that at the drive-in covered. "this night has opened my eyes, and i will never sleep again"

All famous bands are overrated.
They get a lot of publicity and some artists like Elvis and The Beatles did great things for the music industry but they couldn't pull it off if they were revived and played again. It's a matter of personal taste and I'm well over the "I listen this and that because it's cool". I Like Korn sure they aren't the greatest band on earth but there is no other like it same goes with radiohead.
They just got lucky for getting in the spotlights. Doesn't mean they don't deserve credit.

When we talk about overrated artist I think about Lil wayne, Akon, T-pain and other artist that don't write their own songs, cannot make any music and just do it for the green and get so much credit for blinding simple minded folks out of their money.
I think most artists should be respected and most populair bands just got lucky and if you don't like their music it doesn't mean they don't deserve the credit they get. It's a though job being a rich and famous star I think.

There are a Few artist I respect like Frank Zappa, Tom waits and even Weird Al Yankovic for always being creative and doing their thing.
I also like Tool and RHCP a lot while I don't think they are the best bands in the wide world an maynard is an impish prick I still like them for giving me so much nice music to listen to and so many memories attached to these songs. And no matter what people may say or think that's something they can never take away from me.

So prove me wrong however you want I am not gonna change my playlist because of you.

The MOST over-rated band of all time is Metallica. Don't get me wrong, Metallica is great. They ARE on of my favorite bands. But practically all anyone does with Metallica is rave about them like they're an angelic choir descended from heaven to play music written by Jesus Christ himself which they aren't. James Hetfield is a B.A. ryhthym guitarist (All Nightmare Long FTW)and has developed recently into a great singer too. Cliff Burton (R.I.P.) was F-ING AMAZING, Jason Newstead was good and Rob Trujillo is kickass also. Lars is a above average drummer. But Kirk Hammett is not the best lead guitarist of all time. None of his solos sound that great(especially from on Broken,Beat,Scarred/Judas Kiss/All Nightmare Long, in which the solos could have been stolen from a "Boring Shitty Repetetive Pentatonic Pull-Off Lick" book written by a 13-year-old kid with spastic epilepsy). One is good. Master of Puppets is good. Heck, a lot of his solos are *good*. Not great. Not so amazing it makes me want to kiss him. Good. 8 on the richter scale of guitar solos, not a 666. Nice try though.

Dream Theatre, Tool, Porcupine Tree.

You know what, fuck it, the entire genre of prog metal, full of beard strokers who think they're far cleverer and more innovative than they acctually are.

That's approximately 30% of the internet pissed off, so also Iron Maiden (steadfastly refusing to innovate for the last 30 years, sure they were innovative in thier time but then they just did the same thing for like 20 albums), Metallica (Slayer are far better, and they don't waste their time with wanky slow songs), Coldplay (sonic beigeness), Led Zeppelin (just awful in every way imagineable), Queen (See Led Zeppelin + moustaches.), Dragonforce (they just play the Pokemon theme sped up over and over again), Oasis (two biggest douchetards in the world), Eminem (only popular because he's white) and The Sex Pistols (even at their best they could never touch The Damned).

rant over. sorry about that everyone.

I would have expected people to stop listening to tenny-bopper crap after seventh grade, but no. No, the majority of people over the age of 18 listen to Miley Cyrus.

Kanye West by a mile. Nas called him the 'savior of hip-hop' in an interview once. Kanye also called himself the 'new' Michael Jackson(I honestly wish I was making this up). He's decent, at best, in my opinion and I'm sick of guessing what old song he used to make his new song....
