The issue seems to be the fact that a large population of console users are GLAD that PC users will lose Dedicated servers, like it's some minor victory for them, and this is what baffles me. Why are they happy about it? Why aren't they asking for those same features to be added to their own games? Why aren't they demanding better online service and access to user-made mods? Why aren't they trying to make their gaming platform better and richer instead of hoping the other guys get screwed over?
Actually, what's annoyed me are the people who are claiming that 'their' version of the game is ruined by IW's decision. You get what you're given on release day. IW have a right to release whatever game they want, it's your choice whether or not you want to buy it. Once you start modding, you're changing the game from what it originally was. Again, whether or not IW wants their hard work modded, added to, or changed in any way is
their decision.
PC players have a very simple choice here... Either accept the game as released by IW, or don't buy it, and get something else.
So, what you're saying is that people can choose not to buy the game? I don't think that was ever the subject of the argument, so I'm not quite sure what your point is...
When it comes to multiplayer, it's almost an accepted standard (especially for FPS games) to allow players to set up dedicated servers for various reasons. Likewise, modding is an integral part of the PC gaming culture. By removing these features, the developers are showing a very distinct lack of respect for their prospective PC customers, as well as a disregard for the PC as a gaming platform.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are a console gamer, right? That would mean you're used to getting products as they are and not see them change in any significant way, unless it's some DLC that you bought. So I don't expect you to understand why modding is such a big deal for many people. However, I ask you to try and imagine some customer feature that you like (Voicechat, friends list, whatever) and then have it removed for no apparent reason. Wouldn't you be upset? Especially if it was a game you were looking forward to.
In the end, IW decides how they make their game and what they want to put in it, and we can vote with our wallets, but that doesn't mean that we can't discuss it and like it or not this is a hot issue for many PC gamers who were looking forward to this game for a long time. They are upset that they are faced with this decision, especially since there is no practical justification for it. And they voice their dissatisfaction and discuss it with other gamers. That's what the forums are here for.
