What we need is Jack Thompson to successfully get Modern Warfare 2 taken down before it's released.

Yes, to some it would be a disaster, but it would unite us. It's the reason that jerk exists. So we can have a common enemy.

Your one hundred percent completly right, a gamer is someone who buys and plays games, it doesn't matter if they use consoles or a computer.

However it's not like we can do anything to stop the fighting, people will be people. Unless of course you count fanboys as people.... are they?
No, they aren't. My proof: The Halo 3 Forum on Bungie.net. I'm a huge Halo fan and I think they are idiots. Also, look at my profile. Steam and 360.
Hah, I already know fanboys aren't human, I was only joking when I asked that question.

I have noticed over the past couple of days that Console players and PC players have been at each others throats over the Multiplayer decision in MW2.

I for one think that all the fighting over this is silly. In reality a Gamer is a Gamer. It doesn't matter of one plays the PC or Consoles or both. We are all gamers in the end and should embrace the fact we are all gamers. Not be fighting over something a game company does.

What do other Escapist users think of the infighting gamers have been doing since the announcement?
Speaking as a PC user who doesn't hate or resent consoles in any way...

The issue seems to be the fact that a large population of console users are GLAD that PC users will lose Dedicated servers, like it's some minor victory for them, and this is what baffles me. Why are they happy about it? Why aren't they asking for those same features to be added to their own games? Why aren't they demanding better online service and access to user-made mods? Why aren't they trying to make their gaming platform better and richer instead of hoping the other guys get screwed over?

Just saying we should all stop fighting and grow up is a naive blanket statement. PC users are angry at all the console gamers who are mocking them and pointing in their direction yelling "WOOOT, XBOX rocks!". Shouldn't you be asking console users to stop being dicks about the whole thing and instigating trouble?

Actually, what's annoyed me are the people who are claiming that 'their' version of the game is ruined by IW's decision. You get what you're given on release day. IW have a right to release whatever game they want, it's your choice whether or not you want to buy it. Once you start modding, you're changing the game from what it originally was. Again, whether or not IW wants their hard work modded, added to, or changed in any way is their decision.
PC players have a very simple choice here... Either accept the game as released by IW, or don't buy it, and get something else.

Modding is for those who don't like the original game. So why buy it?!

Good on IW, may other developers follow suit.
Are you serious.

Killing Floor (Unreal Tournament), Counter Skrike (Half Life), Left 4 Dead (Counter Strike)

All these great games began with a meger modder thinking he could make a great game better, or change the game play in a certai way, or add new maps.

You seem to have never played a mod. The amount of work that goes into them is unreal. Some are complete rewrites of games. And given away for free.

But on topic, I think IW is going to lose a lot of fanbase from this. A lot of clans will prob stay on COD1 now. While I dont play this game I do play TF2 and CS. If valve got rid of dedicated servers I would go mad because I can not choose where or who i play with

So, what you're saying is that people can choose not to buy the game? I don't think that was ever the subject of the argument, so I'm not quite sure what your point is...

When it comes to multiplayer, it's almost an accepted standard (especially for FPS games) to allow players to set up dedicated servers for various reasons. Likewise, modding is an integral part of the PC gaming culture. By removing these features, the developers are showing a very distinct lack of respect for their prospective PC customers, as well as a disregard for the PC as a gaming platform.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are a console gamer, right? That would mean you're used to getting products as they are and not see them change in any significant way, unless it's some DLC that you bought. So I don't expect you to understand why modding is such a big deal for many people. However, I ask you to try and imagine some customer feature that you like (Voicechat, friends list, whatever) and then have it removed for no apparent reason. Wouldn't you be upset? Especially if it was a game you were looking forward to.

In the end, IW decides how they make their game and what they want to put in it, and we can vote with our wallets, but that doesn't mean that we can't discuss it and like it or not this is a hot issue for many PC gamers who were looking forward to this game for a long time. They are upset that they are faced with this decision, especially since there is no practical justification for it. And they voice their dissatisfaction and discuss it with other gamers. That's what the forums are here for. ;)

Despite the clear point of this thread, posting on how stupid they are is going to bring out the stupid ones and start a flame war.

I didn't say PC users started it. I just think it is silly for either side to argue with each other over it. If some people are insulting you just ignore them. That is what I do.
