PC Gaming Elitism

PC elitists are the nerdy equivalent of the regular elitist. You know, those people who go to college, study some shit, read newspapers that are slightly above the level of any boulevard magazine which make them feel like they were clever, but don't realize their opinion is being shaped by said magazines. The person who has an opinion on everything despite only knowing about 5% about the topic (at most), and one of the topics is global warming. The person who goes to elite dating sites so they don't have to mix their genes with dirty peasants and who send their kids to a private school because for some reason they managed to convince some idiot employer (probably of the same kind) they actually are smart.

So I'm browsing Facebook and I discover a group entitled "Consoles Suck".

I begin to read the group description and realize just why some people hate PC gaming or at least PC gamers. I'm a PC gamer at heart (even though I do own consoles). PC games to me are much more complex and satisfying than others on a console. This, however, just makes me ashamed of who I am. Any thoughts?

If "PC elitism" is a problem, then why are there WAAAAAY more threads on this forum bashing or making fun of PC gaming than there are threads bashing/making fun of console gaming? I see far more console elitism, both towards the PC as well as other consoles.

And as far as Facebook groups go, I'm sure you can find a "It sucks!" group for pretty much anything that exists in the world.

Basically, there is no problem, unless you are a 10-year old who takes Yahtzee a bit too seriously...

Release S.T.A.L.K.E.R, X3, Silent Hunter or moddable versions of Oblivion and Fallout 3 on 360 and I'll be happy. I play my PC and Xbox about the same but there are some things PC's just do better. I was gutted that Operation Flashpoint 2 on 360 didn't have a mission editor. The original xbox version of Flashpoint did and made the game infinitly better.

Yeah, I notice this a lot on here too. I've seen threads that were basically "All PC gamers are elitist faggots" that don't get locked, but a thread worded "Do you prefer the 360 or the PS3?" get locked within 5 minutes on grounds of flame baiting and starting a VS thread.

I play on every console and I also PC game. The PC is my preferred platform. I feel a lot of hate towards PC gaming comes from people who've never gamed on the PC, which makes no sense at all. It's like saying you hate raspberries without even tasting one.

A lot of PC gamers build and maintain their own rigs, which is something to take pride in. Some (not I) probably feel that console gamers are copping out by buying a pre-manufactured gaming machine.

Although, I met messed up people on both the xbox and the ps3, I guess pc gamers aren't worse, jsut different.

See, this is the kind of thing I can't stand. Pointless flame baiting for no reason at all. Why do you hate PC gaming? If I'm a PC gamer, why do you hate me? I don't hate non-PC gamers yet apparently it's okay to hate me because I play games on my PC? Or do you hate me because there are PC gamers who are elitist pricks? That's like saying a black guy robbed a store by your house so it's okay to hate all black people because they're all criminals. It's stereotyping and it's incorrect to do so.

All the 360 gamers are really mature for their age and the PS3 owners aren't full of shit.

Every platform's got them, just roll with it. But not actually with it, or you'll look like a moron (like they do).

As a mainly console-gamer who started off as a PC Gamer (sorry about the conversion guys, but my PC is shit, can't play anything past the early 2000s and I'm poor), I have to say I feel like I can distance myself from the conflict (just like I can distance myself from the console wars, for having a Playstation 1 and 2 then converting to Xbox and subsequently the 360).

Even though I would love to meet 98% of XBL and erase them from the gene pool, we must not forget the denizens of CounterStrike, and the fact most of the world's idiots can be found on the internet.

No format is innocent. They both house deletables, and the intelligentsia. However, more people have a PC than a console, so you'll find there are more intellectuals on the PC than on a console. So conversely, there will probably be more idiots on the PC too.

However, removing externals like the Internet, and sticking with gaming, I'd say it's just about even. It's just us smart console types have nowhere to display our intelligence, are hard to find, don't always have to have XBL, PSN etc. (how many PC users do you find without the internet? It's like a marathon sprinter with no legs) and are otherwise being smart on the PC.

I've forgotten everything I was leading up to. So, the end.
