If PC gaming died tomorrow, I would be sad. But then I would drown my sorrows by playing the eight million brilliantly designed $5 indie games that are published every year for the PC only. Then I would spend a few decades playing multiplayer PC games on the dedicated servers that PC gamers still maintain long after the companies have gone under and shut down their own servers. Then I would download a bunch of user mods for my classic RPG catalog (including the complete works of Bioware, Obsidian, and Bethesda) many of which are excellent, all of which are free, and none of which are available to console players.

When I got bored of all that, I would boot up an emulator and start playing allegedly console-exclusive games that never even got ported. With more customizable options. And better graphics. And my choice of control system. For free.

On my PC. *****.
So much win in this post, every point is something that passed through my mind as well upon seeing the thread title.

Combine this with the image CheeseSandwichCake posted and you might as well close this thread, there isn't really anything else substantial to discuss.
Combine both posts and you get an epic, compelling, cinematic, thread ending experience.

I sense much elitism in you three. You must be purged or these ideals. Also YOU CAN'T END A TROLL POST. don't feed it and then you will end it.

PC gaming is undoubtedly on the decline, but I'm not sure I'd say it's "dying". As long as Blizzard and Valve remain in business, PC gaming will never truly be "dead". It is becoming harder and harder though to find a reason to maintain my gaming rig. I really only keep it good enough to play WoW on high settings now, what with console gaming being as good as it is.

The world ended in the 1960's from global cooling
The world ended in they year 2000 from Y2K
PC gaming died in 2001
The Mayans were a bunch of lazy tossers

^ one of the above is correct

Im going with the tossers one because they just ran out of room on the rock, instead of going to the store and buying some gorilla glue to add onto it

PC gaming will not die out during our life time

OK I haven't been here for a while but perfect timing. First I'll start with the fact that I am a fan of PC gaming, BUT not a fanboy. I've found it much easier to play games that like in some series, you need to buy the updated console. Me on the other hand for the same or less money can go and upgrade my PC. This not only allows to play the games but it keeps my machine updated so in a couple of years I'm not looking at it and thinking, "WTF is that thing!!!", but it also make previous games I like look better. and yes I got bored one day and took the time to compare graphics of the 360 to the PC, and it looks better. Sorry for the long post.

My disagree-o-meter just broke.

I was just waiting for someone to post that.

But yeah, PC gaming is hardly dying at all. Consoles are just becoming popular.

The OP sounds about as credible as those retards in the US who keep talking about how their "country is dying" - both of these arguments are bullshit, PC gaming isn't "dying", consoles are just becoming increasingly popular, but PC gaming will always be around. FOREVER.

Obvious troll is obvious.

What are you suggesting? That PCs will stop being made because gaming for them was low at somepoint? Since that's not going to happen since PCs are sold on hardware alone and I don't hear many hardware companies crying much, we'll just roll with your idea. I guess they'll just do the development directly on a 360 for the next great Halo. You can't because it only has 256mb of ram and that's not enough for photshop. So let's try another system of yours, or not.

Nine posts in and you're posting something straight off a flamewar from gamefaqs.com. If you were really serious you'd have a glance at Steam and see that they sell a lot of games and more for FAR better prices than any console. (that's not a stab at console gamers, because ...well I have 12 consoles and a lot of games for them)

PC gaming is slowly but efficiently dying. EVERY game sold on the PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC the PC always sells the least amount of copies. And lets be serious the only reason people have PCs are for info, news, World of Warcraft (Which I despise), The Escapist, buying stuff, and itunes. Besides those few things PC gaming is dying. The only people that enjoy are the crazed fanboys that every once in a while try to hump the disc drive. I admit I'll go back and play Half-life 2 every once in a while because I'm trying to pass the time til the next great console game comes out. Pcs were good for games then that went away, then they were good at customization in games and that went away, and now they're good only for porn.
Dude, you gave one reason, and just because it does not sell more copys of a single title does not mean that companies will stop producing and cut off an area of the market. Besides the market is always going to need a superior race of hyper intelligent beings, and the council market wont fill in the gap.

I don't think any of them are true. The Mayans have been credited with the invention of irrigation, the calendar, architectural techniques, astronomy and mathematical works. Nearly a thousand years before the rest of the world.

If they were alive now, they'd probably have left the planet a while ago for some peace and quiet.

Besides the councils are getting so high priced at their releases you might as well build a computer for the same price and get the added bonus of being able to store 4 terabytes of porn.

...and let's not forget Dragon Age: Origins!!! (I am getting it for Christmas ... on the PS3 ... sort of shot my argument in the foot there didn't I?)
Losing out on the tactical view, aren't we?

The PC version is better for strategists...
Actually, the only reason I am getting the PS3 version is because (according to a friend who has it) the battles are more fast-paced, which is (with the exception of FFX) how I like my rpg battling.

You bring up a good point, they were brilliant but they died. They were good, but not good enough. They should have picked a bigger rock to carve on is all I'm saying.

Maybe the only reason is the convenience. You have consoles that are able to run the games without a hitch (with the exception of SOME games, like let's just say for the sake of example, Need for speed:Undercover) or no real need to fool around with internal parts. Of course, there is a difference between a gaming console, and a computer that can do anything, and you use it for gaming. Other reasons, to add to the issue of upgrading, is that it could be very costly.

Nowadays though, technology is cheaper than before, we can all remember a time when you could find a slightly decent video card for a lovely sum of 300+ dollars, or even further back, calculators ranging even in the quadruple digits.

All in all, just stick to what you like best. If you seriously think that PC Gaming is on it's deathbed, the combination of CheeseSandwichCake's and Veret's quote sum it all up.

And what's all this shit about World of Warcraft anyway? A commercial featuring Mister T advertising about ingame Mohawk Grenades might make you cringe, sure, but no real need to call Armageddon about it.
