I was not expecting to find suicide as the topic when I clicked on this thread. I admire the people who shared their experiences because this is a hard subject to share with the world, and I agree that the OP should have been more sensitive, albeit more clear, with the topic.

OT: As for myself, I attempted three times in grade school, but I'm better now and love life. Suicide is very serious and should never be taken lightly!

Know of a few, no one I ever talked to much though.

Could express my opinions on the subject, but I've been a dick here enough today, my thoughts aren't the most sympathetic.

Let's lighten the mood. I have the audacity to be smugly sure that I possess the most awesome suicide story. The final word on my aunt's suicide when I was twelve was thus: she had split personalities. One of which was disturbingly christian, while the other was gay. The christian side, being the first (of possibly four, I guess the consensus is) to realize that she had these other, radically offensive, personalities, decided to off herself to save her immortal soul. So, she does this by holding a knife in front of her heart -and running into a wall really hard. Hil-fucking-larious. You can't deny that it's really funny to picture someone running into a wall as fast as they can with a knife, thudding off of the wall and falling stiffly on the ground.
Laugh. This thread was getting too preachy.

What is an An Hero?

Are you asking if I know anyone who committed suicide?

Well, I guess you do, so no, I don't.
Well, there's that one guy who killed himself, but I didn't really know him.
I know some people who attempted it, of course they are still alive today.

Derailment!
I don't like the idea of suicide. Maybe I'm a selfish materialistic survivalist bastard, but I cling to life as hard as I can.
I know I'm a selfish materialistic survivalist bastard, I'm also way to much of a coward to commit suicide. My one old friend is EXTREMELY depressive. His sister drowned and his parents divorced, I worry about him.

No. I got to them first.
Not fucking funny.
Why? how can we laugh at anything if we can't laugh at the one thing every living thing goes though?

Well, this thread is sad. Luckily I haven't known anyone that has tried or committed suicide. I'm guessing that it'd be very sad to have someone close to you commit suicide, everyone has my condolences.

A friend I knew from our friend's cottage killed himself at age 13. He was tired of his parent's divorce. I did not know him well enough to know the exact issues.

So why do these people do it? It seems like it's just normal people that suddenly snap.

I'm hoping OP will become one of them.
I'm becoming increasingly worried about the length of time it's taking to do something about this ...

OT: My uncle hanged (hung?) himself a few years ago. Hell of a thing to happen :/

Nope. I did know a kid that died, it was all over the news up here, very sad. A brother of my Brother's friend, it took a while to sink in that somebody I knew, even loosely, had been taken from the world. I really don't think I should even be talking about it, the occurence was quite grim.

It happens when many emotions and many events come together to become too overwhelming to deal with. Depression and stress have a lot to do with it. And they seem "normal" because that is what they want everyone to see. They don't want everyone to know how deeply the events in their lives impact them. Finally something happens, and they can no longer convince themselves that life is worth living. That is how it was in my case. Everyone is different, though, so there are definitely more answers to why than that.
