Maybe the Civil War. Or the Wild West. (I know there ARE Wild West games around, I'd just like to see more of them.)

Or 1800s/early 1900s Russia, maybe.

First person shooter set during the Napoleonic era.

*Fire shot*

*lengthy reloading minigame*
*fire another shot*
*miss again*
*get mutilated by a cannon ball to the legs*

Bestgameevar.
I've actualy done exactly that, minus the mini-game in a mod for Mount and Blade: Warband.

It was surprisingly fun.

I would like to see a game where you would play as an immortal human, living through the whole history of mankind and changing history to your own desires.
Someone please steal this idea.
Assuming you have some sort of fast travel system between eras, that game could be awesome.

I think that's one of the most interesting ideas for a game I've heard on here in a while.
If you could travel between eras in time wouldn't you be more of a well... time traveler?
I was thinking more of a really powerful fast forward button.

An option pops up "Would you like to skip the next 50 years and go directly to era X?"

And no rewind option.
Yeah but you just know that after a thousand years at most the story would turn to some message about the inherent value of mortality and how only through death can we truly appreciate life or some bull.

A GTA That takes place during Prohibition era.
Ever played the first Mafia?
It's not much like GTA at all. Linear and mission based. Mafia 2 on the other hand seems to be trying really hard to be a GTA clone.
Wasn't there a gigantic free-roam mode as well?

a world war 1 fps would be nice...
I've often wondered about that myself. Though since World War 1 was pretty stagnant (on the Western Front anyways) I wonder if the game would be a little too linear and repetitive.

I'd like to see something good made out of the period of the Scottish Wars of Independence. It would probably have to be an RTS.

Yeah but it was just a mode. It basically just let you run around the city and wilderness with no missions until you died.

You'll excuse me if I reserve judgement until such a time as I can be bothered to shell out for M&B, then find your mod, and while I was being facetious, I can sort of see how it could work.

I'm probably saying it wrong but around 460+ when Huns were invading Europe playing as Attila the Hun would be awesome

Inherent value of mortality? There is none! I just suggested this, as I assume it would be fun watching world change as the time goes by. It would probably best be implemented as interactive fiction, as the main reason of the game would be choices you make, everything else just a filler.

Honestly, I'm stunned more developers don't make games set in the Peloponessian War era.

A game that tells the story of one of the greatest internecine quarrels ever known to any particular civilization, how could that not be awesome?

Necessarily, I agree with other posters agitating for more games set in ancient Greece in general, as well.

Ancient Greece, but non-mythological please. Maybe a Total War game focusing on Greece? That would be awesome.

Or possibly a game set in Cold War era Berlin?
