i think the main problem is not when...but where..there are a lot of places with their own history and culture that have yet to be approached by designers..there is a lot of potential in the mythology of other countries than greece or roman empire..

That would be one hell of a boring RTS.

*Send troops behind trench*
Some fall into the mud attempting to make it to the trench and die.
Some suffer from fatigue.
*Sit in trench for several months*
The water in the trench makes your troops suffer from Trench Foot.
Some suffer from Dysentery.
*charge straight at a German Trench with a Machine Gun emplacment.*
All troops are killed.
Yeah, that jokes been done a thousand times, we still want to see a WW1 anything..-_-

I don't think it was a joke.

A World War II game from the point of view of an Axis soldier, preferably a German soldier. There a goldmine of potential for an amazing story there. Also a Great War FPS. Something better that Darkest of Days. Or just Darkest of Days II with the kinks worked out.

EDIT: Oh, and a real sandbox game set in the 1930s to 1950s.

It may have been done to death, but it doesn't make it any less true.

I'd like to see more games based around the same time as the Cold War, especially if you're focusing on the more secret side of it. Whether it's the ridiculous (TF2) the more 'realistic' (Black Ops) it's a fun time period to dick around in. Especially if you throw in James Bond style gadgets.

First person shooter set during the Napoleonic era.

*Fire shot*
*miss*
*lengthy reloading minigame*
*fire another shot*
*miss again*
*get mutilated by a cannon ball to the legs*

Bestgameevar.
I've actualy done exactly that, minus the mini-game in a mod for Mount and Blade: Warband.

It was surprisingly fun.
You'll excuse me if I reserve judgement until such a time as I can be bothered to shell out for M&B, then find your mod, and while I was being facetious, I can sort of see how it could work.
Well, here are some links if you want to see some of the content.
(Urgh, trouble finding a good video.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fA4P6p-ba4 (Long video)- Hope you can excuse the french and I liked this video in particular because my regiment was actualy on the other side, geting shot by them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdlUFLo-0xA (Shorter video) - Trailer for the mod.

I sadly couldn't find a video that truely shows the utter awesomeness of a 150 vs 150 players line battle with artillery, cavalry, massive maneuvers and all that good stuff.

Another thing that I think would be interesting would be an MMO with say four factions: One Japanese/Chinese-esque, One Roman-esque, One Ancient Greek-esque and maybe A Persian-esque one.
That'd rock!

True, but since when have games been built for realism?

Name me any WW2 shooter, and I'll give you a list of inaccuracies.

Between the Ancient Rome period and Medieval period, a time where mythology was active and awesome.

Also because I'm a Tenchu and Dynasty Warriors fan, the feudal era in Eastern Asia.

Yeah, that looks pretty cool, I just can't see it being particularly exciting, unless you don't have properly accurate weapon-mechanics.

1.Fire shot
2.clean out your barrel
3.1/2 fill the flash-pan
4.drop in shot(with a wadding pack already attached, if you're lucky and your regiment is wealthy.
5.ram it all down into the end of the barrel
6.check you haven't pushed it too hard (repeat previous steps if you do.)
7.fill the flash-pan
8.take aim
9.wait for the order to fire

Also, I didn't know this was so high profile. Congrats on the MoY nomination.
You're only 15, what part did you play in the modding?

American Revolution. Either an FPS or an RPG. I just think it's a cool period of time, would be cool to experience it in a game.

Touché.
Still though, most WWII shooters have at least a strong facade of accuracy. You couldn't really pretend like it was realistic if you completely changed the nature of WWI warfare. That said, I would love to see them make one anyway.

Stone ages. It would be BADASS.
Beat me to it..

Because who wouldn't like to play in a multiplayer match where you mount T-Rex's and through spears at other enemies?
Sorry to spoil the fun, but, just to clarify, Humans & Dinosaurs never Co-existed.

OT:I know it's not a period of history, but, would the future be a bad idea? I know many of you will probably cringe, as I once did, even at the thought of 'Call Of Duty:Future Ops' with the same guy running at you from the cover of the box with a shiny, LED laden laser rifle. But really, think about it, maybe it would be OK.

I also like the idea of , during the colonization of America's, playing as a Navajo/Cherokee Indian who's very culture is being encroached upon. You could start of as a child and, as you age, you have more experiences until you reach your prime, sorta like RDR.
Fine, Dinosaurs mounting dinosaurs while throwing dinosaur excrement into the faces of other dinosaurs?

And you mean like Battlefield : 2142 ?
That game was some awesome, probably still is.

LoL, funny enough, gameplay has sorta moved towards WW1 style gameplay.

The stuff Yahtzee has been whining about in every other review he's done.

For instance, spending most of the time in cover taking pot shots at the enemy. Instantly dieing if you try and rush in, getting a lot of dust and smoke thrown in your face.

Anyways, going on to OT:

Ever since I saw Martin Scorceses' Gangs of New York which is really a very accurate depiction of that time. I'd like to see a game based in New York during the Civil War.
