Personal Opinion on Religion (Atheist View)

Honestly I am bothered by religion. My opinion though, don't care just don't preach to me. Oh yah and i also believe that religion has ruined a good portion of things and made other things evil. In the words of a great great man "IF YOU DON'T BELIVE IN GOD YOU WILL BURN FOREVER IN FIRE AND BRIMSTOME!!!!!.... but remember god loves you. Thats a reason i don't like it either.

also if anyone can tell me which comedian said thatd be great.

im not in a mood to ramble on at the moment so ill be brief !!! but basically i dont buy any of that religious crap, i havent since i was about 6 years old, i even got in trouble for it at my bloody christian school, those who believe in religion are blind sheep, its a relic of the middle ages, a time before science explained the answers to us!!!! and atheists are not bleak and pessimistic, we are realists, who believe in the truth science holds, not some mystical all powerful being(s)!! religion makes wars and ruins lives, it is responsible for more deaths than anything else ever!!!! ban it and the world would be a better place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can believe if you want, but remember YOU ARE ONLY DELUDING YOURSELVES!!!!!

How are most Atheists bleak and pessimistic? Just because you don't believe in a god does not nessesarily mean that life is suddenly pointless. There is still this universe to enjoy and try to understand. Just that there is nothing after death. Which i find makes alot of the Atheists i know, including myself even more determined to enjoy it while it lasts, and are actions are not done with the little voice at the back of your head reminding you to think that if you do 'wrong' you will be punished for it in another life, rather that if you decide to act in a moral or 'good' fashion it is because you have decided to of your own free will and not out of fear of punishment if you don't.

"There is nothing after death" is pretty bleak and pessimistic to me. I'd rather go to heaven, thank you. Or atleast believe I'm going to heaven. Religion gives me hope, rather than a strict set of rules that you made it out to be. (Which is, ironically, a fairly pessimistic view on religion as a whole).

I hate to break this to everyone on a gaming website but god is dead. The argument runs something like this. I'd rather go to heaven, thank you. Or atleast believe I'm going to heaven. Religion gives me hope, rather than a strict set of rules that you made it out to be. (Which is, ironically, a fairly pessimistic view on religion as a whole).

Wouldn't it be better to have hope in this lifetime rather than in the next, which may not even exist?

Really? I had no idea you had all the answers. There is Isaac Newton, Gregor Mendel, and Francis Collins all delusional. Well, to know the answer to that question would be to understand God, so I don't really know.
You'd have to define what a universe is, but it could be that God and the Universe are one and the same, and as a result have always existed thus negating the need for a reason as to why they do.

That's the only thing I can come up with.

By the Universe i would define it as everything in existence.
If the universe had existed forever then if would have existed for an infinite amount of time. One of the characteristics of Infinity is that nothing can be added or subtracted from infinty, therefore we would be unable to add more time in which to travel through it.

Sorry bout Constantly Questioning and challenging your posts but i really really enjoy a reasoned debate on religion with people that have more than two brain cells on a good day.

well, i'm agnostic, open to the concept just not convinced by it. to me, God seems to be a creation by people so that they don't have to accept the fact that their mistakes are their own. if something goes badly it's 'God's will' or something. but then believing that some holy spirit is looking after them can make people have more hope, all be it if there isn't any. all that 'the lord works in mysterious ways' is just a cop out.

i never said i had all the answers!!!!!! but i firmly believe they are all held by science and good evidence!!!! and what is this kettle rubbish about??

Actually the ideal situation is to have hope in both, and normally I do. But there are times when the hope in this world fails me, and when that happens I like to know that I have the omnipresent hope in God and Heaven as a back up.
