You are a bastard!!! Peter Molyneux is amazing. He made Fable, which makes him a game industry god. And as far as the "mediocre sandboxes" comment, Fable is (without a doubt) my favorite game I have ever played.

You just wait until Fable 2 blows your (and everyone else's) mind!

P.S. Just a side note, I really don't like the "God-Games", so your arguement for Populous being the greatest thing he's done tends to be based towards the fact that we care for the "God-Game" genre.
Okay, I can't tell if you are serious or not, but if you honestly think that Fable is the best game you've played to date... well... you need to play a LOT more games.

For the PS3 [...] Final Fanatasy and Metal Gear Solid, to be sure, but they don't have the wider appeals
Also, Final Fantasy XIII is going to be on the 360 as well, at least outside of Japan. So it might not be as resonant with the PlayStation brand this generation as in previous console cycles.

One of Sony's "problems" is that the games that really helped sell their machines so far have all been third-party: Resident Evil, Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy are the series' that really stick out for me when I think of the PlayStation brand.

With games becoming more and more expensive to produce as hardware gets more powerful (and therefore more complicated), fewer developers can afford to stick to a single platform, and for a company like Sony with very little in the way of big-name first- or second-party franchises it's going to hit them harder than Nintendo or even Microsoft.

I don't think it's going to have a huge impact on their business overall, though. Once they drop the price and bring out a handful more must-have titles, gamers like myself (who've been wanting a PS3 for months, but can't justify that expenditure for so few games) will be tipped off the fence.
I would like to point out that 360 fanboys will have to wait 1-2 years for their port.(And it will be quite a bit more expensive I bet since it will take like 80 fracking CD's.)

Also Sony is working on getting their face out, Its becoming more like a PC but still retaining a console form. Some games allow even miceboard-support, And things such as the FragFX. Games such as R2, And KZ2 are looking out their to change things.(R2 changing the formula to a realistic TF2+Excellent Co-Op campaign, And huge multi-player.) and KZ2 by giving all those halo fanboys something to wet themselves over graphically.(IT also doesn't pull that gag where you sit behind cover and switch to 3rd-Person, This could have been taked out, But if defiantly was in an earlier build.)

Also, Kratos is probably the best figurehead they have.(Hes innovative in his own right, Being not a flawed brown-haired space marine, But a bald physcopath.)

Solid Snake is a nice one, But he doesn't have broad appeal.

If KZ2 and R2 don't flop, Then there will be another figurehead set up.(R2 being the most likely to succeed.)

Sly Cooper, For the Kiddies.

Final Fantasy still applys, Since its kind of a timed exclusive. But sony didn't pay to get it, The company is doing it.

Or you need to go back to your maimathon 9000, And leave the creative people alone.(If you read inside, LBP is being made by former Lionhead staff and its another creative game.)

To clarify, I don't think his point is wrong, I just think he isn't the one to make it cuz he's a douche.
The whole premise of this comment is dumb. It shouldn't matter who makes the point. Really.

To me , I'll support anyone who shoots to make a '10/10' game every time, even if it ends up being a 7 or 8 game, as opposed to the EA stuff which seems to be aimed at getting a 6 and manages it, but still sells in the tens of thousands.

I'd much prefer a game with a stand out feature that isn't quite perfect over another generic sequel.

I think that's Molyneux, at least he's aiming for the stars, even if he's only got a big ladder sometimes.

So if you own a 360 your a 360 fanboy? How does that work exactly? See your clearly a fanboy
it will take like 80 fracking CD's.
So plz leave, this is an actual discussion, something you fanboys have yet to comprehend

The game that defines the Wii is SSBB tbh, at least if you look at the gamer crowd. And yes, Peter is hyping a bit too much.

And you don't know elements of the english language, So please leave and stop butchering it.

That was a hyperbole, But if you think about it you should get the point I was trying to make.

Yah exagerating is what fanboys do to try and look impressive, it doesn't work. And the game may take a max of 3 discs, woopee. And nobody was talking about how the game will work on the 360, it was only mentioned that it was ON the 360 and therefore couldn't act as a cover game for the PS3, cause it has to be exclusive. You started freaking out about the 360, common fanboy behaviour

There goes the neighbourhood. The guy had a point, could you refrain from the bile long enough for a reasonable discussion for once please Bullet?

As for the whole purpose of a thread, I'm sitting on the fence. When I think PS3, I think Metal Gear Solid or Final Fantasy. Both wonderfully solid games, but in terms of a figurehead character, I dunno. Say what you will about Halo, that's the xbox's flagship product and Master Chief remains the same throughout the series, one solid character much more easily springing to mind in relation to a platform. Whereas FF characters change every game, and Snake gets older every game, and if we're talking about solely PS3, you're limited to a geriatric.

The PS3 still needs a defining game? Has he ever heard about Metal Gear Solid 4? And people only buy the very mediocore WiiPlay because of the included controller.

Seriously, where does he get off talking about games as if he's somehow the god of game developers? He hasn't made a decent game since Populous 2 and for some damned reason thinks that he's God's gift to gamers.

It seems that all he does since Black and White is complain about other developers and hype his bs mediocre sandboxes as if they are going to change the way people game when in reality they are just the definition of meh.
I didn't disagree with anything he said in that article...at all.

Nor do I think he is a douche for voicing his opinion - I don't really see anything insulting in there, and I don't get the impression that he feels he is God's gift to gamers. In fact, he's been very critical of both himself and his habit of breaking hyped promises recently, so I don't feel he has any issues with his ego.

Unless you're a fanatical Sony supporter, I don't see why you've taken offense to this.

As it happens, I haven't played the Populous games (at least, I can't recall playing them), but I think that both Black and White games, and Fable were brilliant - they weren't massive revolutions in gaming, but they were very well done and I still play Fable from time to time to this day.

*sigh* It was only a matter of time before the word fanboy was thrown around - this is the Escapist, not Gamefaqs, lets try to leave the F-word out from now on, please.

Oh, and before you resort to the kneejerk reaction of calling ME a fanboy, I own both a PS3 and a 360, and I hate them both equally.

3 Disks? I'm thinking of around 5 unless they go the whole short but sweet game.(Which whenever has a JRPG been short and sweet, While final fantasy?)

And then that can be converted into 2 blu-ray disks.(Not bad compared to 3-5 right?)

Anyways, Then all of the worlds a fanboy. Have you not exgerrated once in your life?

Back to the point, I don't really care that Final fantasy XIII went to the 360. Because final fantasy has been there for a long time already.(That MMO one.) I was just stating the point that it could still be considered an exslusive until it goes to another system. If we go by your thought, Then Rock Band 2 is a 360 exclusive too right?

Besides, Everyone has different tastes in games, so you saying that Fable sucked, doesn't really say much unless we know what other games you thought were good.
To be fair, I thought Fable was a massively average game. And I love RPGs, both the western and japanese variety, so it's not as if I hate the genre.

So he does not understand my point I made, Then he states that I am a fanboy.(Okay I maybe a tiny bit, But thats just because i'm pissed at M$, Not the gaming companys catering the 360.)

And what I can't make a retort back?(Also I do feel that the butchering part was a bit much, But still hyperboles are easy and he should have seen the point in what I wrote.)
