There is a lot of fanboyery going on in this thread, people, behave. Especially you bulletinmybrain, Are you sure Square-Enix isn't planning a simultaneous release of FFXIII? Like every multi-platform developer does?

But enough of that. I'm taking a deep breath now. The thing I find surprising is that Peter Molyneux wasn't even being a douchebag in this article. He made the point that a console needs identifiable titles to it as part of its success. And he has said the PS3 hasn't really got one yet, but little big planet looks like it will be the game that does it for the system.

Now, these games are hard to come by. MGS is not an ideal example of this, MGS4 is a niche title at best, if I were to go out onto the street and ask twenty people if they know what Metal gear Solid is I would probably get two affirmatives. If I did the same thing with "Wiifit" or "Halo" that number would greatly increase. And I think Halo is the only title that is brandable to the Xbox 360 as a system defining game.

Nintendo is the champion of this, Mario, Samus, Link, Pokemon, etc. Xbox has Master Chief, Playstation has Kratos, but GoW III is not really getting the saliva flowing at all right now, I don't even know when it is being planned to be released.

If y'all wanted to site an article showing how Molyneux is an ego ridden game dev asswipe, this was not a great article, he only mentioned his game and studio once and he was humbole about it. Then he vouched for the team developing a game on a competitive system in a competitive time frame.

If anything I would use this article to say "We need more developers with attitudes like Peter Molyneux"

And although it was really too short, Fable was an excellent title, I expect Fable 2 will be excellent as well, but it won't be one of those titles that defines the Xbox.

Dennis Dyack and Molyneux need to get together... I can see it now: The Too Human Fables! Will Revolutionize life as we know it! Will make you immortal!

You do realise that Moly hasn't liked a game that he's made since Populous 2, he's well aware that Black & White (1+2) and Fable were failures, he's probably more aware of that than anyone else. It's not easy for a small developer to make the big games that he wants to make. Hopefully now, with Microsoft's money, he'll be able to make the game that he wants to make. Hopefully Fable II will be that game.

Dennis Dyack, Peter Molyneux, John Carmack, and the team behind Duke Nukem Forever! Bring you the most overhyped underwhelming game ever...

"Gorgeous Mediocre 5000". It's a game where you play the norse god Odin in a FPS/RPG with city building elements and STRIPPERS!

EDIT: In retrospect this joke doesn't really work because I realized I would probably play this game.

Actually, yeah, that does sound like a potiental great ;)

Although I did like Fable, and the Dungeon Keeper series (curse them for not making 3).

Overall, Peter does need to keep quieter. He just seems to radiate ideas and enthuiasm like some sort of moble nova, but either lacks the time or money to complete his ideas. If he keep quieter up until he reaches the point where the game is nearly out (like now with Fable 2, which is hopefully a good sign) his games would be better received.

Well, if that's the case, then Rock Band 2 is exclusive even though it's timed exclusive.

But I disgress, the problem with LBP is that it still doesn't have that recognition as Mario or Master Chief. Ask people if they know what LBP is or what a Sackboy is now and they'll give you a stare like you're trying to get them into a porno or something.

MGS4 is definately not for everyone, but niether is Halo 3 or Fable 2 (I'm excluding Nintendo because everyone seems to have "fond" memories of them) and really, 360's main defining title is Halo 3 with other games thrown in the mix.

As I've said before, I highly doubt that Sony will ever get a "Mascot" anytime soon because most of their franchises havn't done anything "big" to shake the industry. Sure, we have the bloody/shiny/sneaky platforming of God of War/Ratchet and Clank/Sly Cooper/Jak And Daxter, but non of them really "took the industry by storm" or really did anything to bring themselves out besides pre existing fan bases.

Well while saying that his own game was gonna be the best for the 360 made him sound prickish id have to agree that
the PS3 has no awesomely fun game that everyone thinks of when you mention it.
MGS4 doesn't count because it wasn't nearly good enough to warrant that title.

The Wii has the Wii sports type deal
and the 360 has GoW and Halo 3
PS3 has...Lair?

As I recall it, MGS IV was as generally agreed to be as good as Gears of War, and better than Halo 3.
Amusingly, the metacritic scores for Gears of War [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/gearsofwar?q=gears%20of%20war], Halo 3 [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/halo3?q=halo%203] and Metal Gear Solid 4 [http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/metalgearsolid4gunsofthepatriots?q=metal%20gear%20solid%204] are all 94%.

And isn't Halo owned by Bungie? Who left Microsoft in disgust at the end of the year? So haven't they lost their mascot?
Microsoft have bought the rights to the Halo franchise off Bungie, so it belongs to them now.

It's also a mischaracterization to say that Bungie left Microsoft "in disgust"; the two companies still work very closely on the Halo series; as is usual when one of these IPs changes hands, Bungie have first refusal on any new Halo projects, and haven't turned any down (as far as I know).

I think people like DamienHell won't be happy unless sony do a "mario" and remake the same game 10 times with no story or character development of any kind, but hey he still looks the same! coz thats what matters most

now excuse me while i enjoy playing with that anonymous guy killing colossi to save his unnamed girlfriend

Then that begs the question of why they became an independent company at all.
I dunno...maybe to develop different games on other systems?

PS3 might not have a defining game because I don't know if Sony has ever set foot in the development field. Microsoft and Nintendo are also game developers. Sony just buys developers and contractually makes games system-specific.

Peter Molyneux is a big talker with big ideas, most of which never come to fruition.

Revolutionary, innovative, groundbreaking... these words don't come to mind when I think of Peter Molyneux.

I was just stating the point that it could still be considered an exslusive until it goes to another system. If we go by your thought, Then Rock Band 2 is a 360 exclusive too right?
...By YOUR logic rockband 2 is a 360 exclusive. My definition of an exclusive is never going to another console. Thats what makes it exclusive. And again, leave. Your made a whole page talking about your fanboydom and the 360. You've derailed this thread
Wouldn't that mean that Final Fantasy XIII is still a Ps3 exclusive, cause only half the game is going to the 360? (According to Square Enix, they are not porting Final Fantasy Versus XIII)
Thats what I was stating, Sure it will be on the 360. Just like how C&C3 will be on the PS3, Its a timed exclusive the developers make so as to work on their lead platform.

Unless square is lieing to us the whole time, Then no my point is valid because they stated they would not work on XIII for the 360 until after the ps3 release. Also most don't hit the ps3 until later on/next year. (Alone in the dark, RB2, Stuff like that, Oblivion..)
