For the PS3 [...] Final Fanatasy and Metal Gear Solid, to be sure, but they don't have the wider appeals
Also, Final Fantasy XIII is going to be on the 360 as well, at least outside of Japan. So it might not be as resonant with the PlayStation brand this generation as in previous console cycles.
One of Sony's "problems" is that the games that really helped sell their machines so far have all been third-party: Resident Evil, Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy are the series' that really stick out for me when I think of the PlayStation brand.
With games becoming more and more expensive to produce as hardware gets more powerful (and therefore more complicated), fewer developers can afford to stick to a single platform, and for a company like Sony with very little in the way of big-name first- or second-party franchises it's going to hit them harder than Nintendo or even Microsoft.
I don't think it's going to have a huge impact on their business overall, though. Once they drop the price and bring out a handful more must-have titles, gamers like myself (who've been wanting a PS3 for months, but can't justify that expenditure for so few games) will be tipped off the fence.
I would like to point out that 360 fanboys will have to wait 1-2 years for their port.(And it will be quite a bit more expensive I bet since it will take like 80 fracking CD's.)
Also Sony is working on getting their face out, Its becoming more like a PC but still retaining a console form. Some games allow even miceboard-support, And things such as the FragFX. Games such as R2, And KZ2 are looking out their to change things.(R2 changing the formula to a realistic TF2+Excellent Co-Op campaign, And huge multi-player.) and KZ2 by giving all those halo fanboys something to wet themselves over graphically.(IT also doesn't pull that gag where you sit behind cover and switch to 3rd-Person, This could have been taked out, But if defiantly was in an earlier build.)
Also, Kratos is probably the best figurehead they have.(Hes innovative in his own right, Being not a flawed brown-haired space marine, But a bald physcopath.)
Solid Snake is a nice one, But he doesn't have broad appeal.
If KZ2 and R2 don't flop, Then there will be another figurehead set up.(R2 being the most likely to succeed.)
Sly Cooper, For the Kiddies.
Final Fantasy still applys, Since its kind of a timed exclusive. But sony didn't pay to get it, The company is doing it.
