Could someone explain to me why Carnage, the second-rate Venom is in the musical?

i mean, what the hell, this is like 90's era villain who after Venom became anti-hero instead of bad guy became HIS venom.

I'm going to see this if it ever comes to Britain. It just looks so bad. It has to be good.

To those that have made references to the "silver spikey thing" in the first picture, I'm about to ruin your day even more. The producers of the show decided to create a new villain entirely, in addition to the Green Goblin and (apparently) Carnage. The new villain is called, and I swear I'm not making this up, Swiss Miss. I don't know much at all about Swiss Miss (who is a dude, by the way), except that he/she apparently uses blades to some degree?

Seriously though, as a rabid lover of both musicals and superheroes, and a hopeful actor training with one of NYC's most well respected acting teachers, this is a FUCKING TERRIBLE IDEA!!! Who the hell figured this would have lasting appeal?!?! This is a gimmick show, through and through. See it once for laughs, then try and forget you did. At least they got the Patron Saint of Gimmicky Bullshit, Julie Taymor, to direct, so the staging should at least be pretty decent. Thought it's all useless anyway. Unless they sell out every night for the next 5 years (assuming this will stay open even one), they won't see any profit.

I admire Juliet Taymor's ambition, but sometimes, being ambitious just doesn't cut it.

This looks like a disaster plain and simple. Maybe the songs will be good, since we haven't taken a look at them, but design wise, all I have to say is: "What the hell is this shit?"

Taymour is a genius. I'm not overly concerned. Sure, it's going to be arty but why make a carbon copy of the comic book and transpose it onto the stage? A project like that is more drudgery than creative work for an artist. Switching mediums is kind of like the uncanny valley: if you base a play off a book, it has to either be perfect or it has to take the original work in a new direction. If the work is caught somewhere in between, it will be plagued with unfulfilled expectations and the new rendition will be immediately disregarded as 'worse than the original'.

Can we have a cameo by Deadpool where he breaks the fourth wall and just points out how stupid it all is? Maybe have him jump into the audience and give out presents?

Sorry I can't take Vogue as a serious source at all, this musical sounds terrible anyway.

Wow. A professional photographer let these get to the public? What a mess. It looks like someone just badly Photoshopped Damiano into vaguely theatrical backgrounds and then pasted Spiderman characters in. How are we supposed to tell if this production's going to be hilariously bad or just tragically so when there are no actual photos?

If I kill myself, and in the suicide note, blame it on the Spiderman Musical, and they cancel it, I feel that my death would have made the world a better place.
Suicide is a serious thing.

Anyway, judging from the ridiculous costumes I have to say my hopes of this being any good is crushed.

What is this? I don't even...

On topic though, I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt right now. It may be good, it may be bad. The music is written by Bono and the Edge, and they have never really disappointed me. Sure, it's a little weird and a weird concept, but let's see how it goes.

By the way, what is that first picture? My guess is Electro.

My guess is this is aimed squarely at the same crowd that goes to the Lion King musical and other shows: young kids and their suffering parents. The only people who need fear exposure to this travesty will be those of you with snotty little brats who have too many Spidey action figures lying around.....Bwah hah hah!!!!

Seriously though, that's the only demographic I can think of that would go see this. Willingly.

....is that...Carnage I see back there? How can they mess up Carnage of all villains? I....wha....guh.....

I'm going to go lie down now.
I thought a serious spiderman movie where he tries to stop carnage as carnage roams the city murdering innocent people would be an intense and interesting movie.

A ruthless killer with no conscious against a kid who might have to make the choice of killing a killer in order to stop him from slaughtering everyone.

It would never happen I'm sure.

"I know it's too much, but is that bad? Seriously, if you don't want to do something ambitious that's never been seen before, why do you bother?"

Well that's probably the stupidest thing I'll read all day.
