I agree that the PS3 is lacking in games me myself being a owner. Not enough exclusives blah blah blah you know the rest. I like that the PS3 is a sturdy and powerful machine. I enjoy my PS3

I dont think i will buy another sony product again. They always bundle in their proprietary memory that is compatible with nothing, or in the case of my laptop load it up with malware and tracking software(which resulted in a class action lawsuit). Furthermore PS3 games lag behind because of the hardware itself.

"Statements about 'Oh, the PS3 is going to be twice as fast as an Xbox 360' are totally meaningless . It means nothing. It's surprising that game customers don't realize how it treats them like idiots. The assumption is that you're going to swallow that kind of system, when in fact there's no code that has been run on both of those architectures that is anything close to a realistic proxy for game performance. So to make a statement like that, I'm worried for the customers. And that we view customers as complete morons that will never catch on and that we're lying to them all the time. That's a problem because in the long run, it will have an impact on our sales." This is Gabe newell on Edge online.

" ?Anything that makes the game development process more difficult is not a terribly good thing. The decision that has to be made there is ?is the performance benefit that you get out of this worth the extra development time?

"There?s sort of this inclination to believe that -- and there?s some truth to it and Sony takes this position -- ?ok it?s going to be difficult, maybe it?s going to suck to do this, but the really good game developers, they?re just going to suck it up and make it work?. And there is some truth to that, there will be the developers that go ahead and have a miserable time, and do get good performance out of some of these multi-core approaches and CELL is worse than others in some respects here." http://www.edge-online.com/features/john-carmack

The stark reality about computing is that nowadays software development is more tortuous than hardware development. Hence PC games...

Nice review. I have a PS3 and have almost no disappointments about it, except I like PC games better =p. If I were to buy a console today it would have been a 360 since it has more games, and games look and play about the same on both, and its much cheaper. I'm hoping though that over the next year or two the superiority of the PS3 hardware will assert itself and we'll see it's technology brought to bear for uniquely better games than the other consoles.

Coming from the PS2 were you had so many games that you'd never have a dull moment to this its abysmal.
Then I must of chose some really terrible games for the system because I never play my PS2 for the reason that I have no games for it. As for the review, I must say the system has certainly gained an enduring presence. It's gotten some good games and Blu-ray games and movies looks like looking out a window form what I've seen at a nearby Blockbuster. Though I'm not sure if I'm willing to spend 400 bucks at the moment (or whatever the system costs).
i think you missed my point, i'm not saying that the good games are lacking, i'm saying that with the PS2 you had a MASSIVE amount of choice as games came out a lot faster and by the bunch! this generation must be really hard to code for since games are few and far. You end up getting maybe one or two games a month that are worth playing and that's if you're lucky (tho november was a really good month)

think i'd enjoy my ps3/xbox360/wii more if they had bigger game libraries. but i guess all in due time.

Flirts with fanboyism in a spot or two, but all in all a very honest and realistic look at the pros and cons of the PS3. Very nicely done.
It is definitely an honor hearing that from you.

I can't seem to decide weather this console is any good. When it first came out I thought it would be stupid to through away $600 just to get nothing. But then later, Sony came to their senses that no one would buy the damn thing then cut the price by $100. Then GTA IV was released, I gave the game a try and then realized I had never played anything more awesome! I then thought that the PS3 might actually get decent games. So the money you spend on the PS3 might actually be worth it now.

Instead of regular DVD disks like the 360 and Wii use, Sony has created a new type of media called Blu Ray.
Sony did not make blu-ray. The Blu-ray Disc Association did or to be more specific the Blu-ray disc founders which includes:

20th Century Fox
Dell
Hewlett Packard
Hitachi
LG Electronics
Matsushita Electric Industrial (Panasonic)
Mitsubishi Electric
Philips
Pioneer
Samsung Electronics
Sharp
Sony
TDK
Thomson

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc_Founders

My other complaints have been done by others but still not bad considering its a console review.

i dont have a ps3 and instead a 360 for a couple reasons

1. the 360 has all the games i like: gears of war rainbow six vegas cock of dooty (for the arby and cheif fans) splinter cell and halo

2. i dont have that much money

3. i dont see enough of a difference between HD and Blu-Ray to justify this as a huge advance and i still use standard anyway

I was quoting MrBrightside not Sony. MrBrightside wrote that Sony made Blu ray.

A good review. I agree with most of what you said. I truly believe it was worth getting a ps3. Sure it cost me more but I'm going to be using it for several years so I think the extra cost is worth it for what is my main use of leisure time. Besides I didn't want to miss Mgs4! The length of time it takes for some games to reach ps3 (e.g. Bioshock) and the fact that some game designers (like valve) don't like making games for it dose annoy me though.
