I never read the forum guidelines for posting when I signed up but they are generally the same on whatever forum you go to. I've seen a lot of pointless threads started and locked and I know that newer people may not be aware but they should use whatever common sense they have and ask themselves " Is this a legitimate topic to post about or am I just trying to get attention." I personally do not start new threads because I'm sure there was one already created on the subject and I fear the banhammer.

If you can argue to me how this thread is both pointless and lacks any sort of substance or depth and in the long run is mundane, meaningless and over all a waste of space...then sure it is

Even as I post this there are four threads at the bottom of the first page list that have been both started and locked today, and three of those have been polls! This is what I'm talking about, do we not hold ourselves in a higher regard? We must, if you, Space Spoons, have referred to them as "Normal" people.

What's the argument or point, here? That thread is a perfect example of something where 50% of the posts should be in PM's rather than on the main forum

Look...I was just ranting, pointing something out that concerns me here, a trend that is picking up, and one that I understand won't go away, but could be toned down a bit, and hoping to start a discussion about it.

I will admit that people need to THINK before they post a topic, but half of the times topics become useless drivel because of the people posting in them. Instead of whining on and on about them, why don't we start posting GOOD topics, so new folks can see how it's done?

Also, I don't entirely see the point of that random link in the OP.

what we need is the mods to swing their golden banhammer of doom feircely and without hesitation. ive noticed less and less locked threads over the past few months, and i beleive this may be the cause of the banality here.

Does anyone here think it might be a little extreme to suggest a new forum for the kinds of things Isaac is talking about? Clearly, quick-fix threads in which drawn out, intellectual discussion isn't the primary goal are growing more popular. It might help the situation to draw a line of distinction between actually conversation topics and just random postings.

They could call it "The Padded Cell" or something. I don't know.
