no. its as simple as that. a decent topic, is a decent topic, still worth discussing even if the guy who brings it up is an idiot
An idiot who does math is still an idiot.
doesnt make his final answer any less valid

No, it doesn't but both Necro and Sarge is right. It's a gamble to let it stay and flourish...I'm not saying that the idiot has no rights, but...well then again the idiot shouldn't have any rights sometimes no?

Final answer is different from conversation starter. Let him post after the thread has proven it is worthwhile. Not before.
That's kind of hard to do for an OP... which sort of tends to be the first post in a thread

Yeah I believe that it would definitely take over a sentence to develop the main idea and direction for the thread. What does one do able the constant bickering that is sometimes developed in a thread? Just report it after it gets to be to much?

That's why the suggestion was close unpromising thread starters. Then let someone else post a thread on the same subject and hopefully show more promise on the subject.
Okay, my bad... Lack of sleep is starting to get to me

This is... very interesting. You said you didn't want to control the Escapist but look, you have decided what posts you want to stay and what posts you want removed and plan on using the mods to make this happen. *sigh* While I agree with you, there is stupidity and it is annoying, you don't have the right to remove this stupidity or to choose what caliber of stupidity warrants a ban. What you do have the right to do however, is replace the stupidity.

See an OP with little substance, why not make your own filled with substance. People would rather go to that one, then a single sentence thread. Did none of you think of this?

definitely, as soon as you cant get from a the OP post to the post in question without a ton of work, report it.

It's not as black and white as that.

Look everyone, I'm only asking that we all do our part in keeping this place at least somewhat spam and trash free. I'm not asking for anyone to police the forum, crack down on the rules, and enforce any sort of judgement on anyone, that's no our job! We are Escapists first, here, forum users who wish to discuss games and a variety of other topics with a group of people as civilized and intelligent as we'd like to think ourselves as. We aren't afraid to disagree, to be silly, to argue, or rant. We are relaxed, and tolerant, but at the same time, firm, and just with our morals (or lack there of for some) and above all else, we're human, not machines.

I don't wish to rid this place of any flavor, to strip it clean of variety and color, but heavily censoring and enforcing guidelines will do that! Use discretion people, use common sense both as a reader and a topic poster. You see a thread (not a post, that's a bit more complicated) that's entirely ridiculous and pointless then sure report it and pm the mods, but lets not go hog wild with the finger pointing shall we? You think that said thread could have better potential when re-written? Then go and make it your own, that is all I ask.

fire i really think people wont, less reading=easier to post? and in the end, i dont want to give up on this site, but i will, and i think many others might if it continues the way it is now. do you want the site to go the way it is now? id personally rather have it be intelligent, and if that means getting together and deciding what should be reported and what shouldnt, so be it

That's quite the closing statement...

did anybody else learn something new tonight? or am I the only one with a newfound desire to fix this place up?

You damn well better! You have over 4000 bloody posts at this place, you'd think you'd have some investment in this beautiful little hellhole wouldn't you?
