So, this is basically a "Why do people wear things differently to me?" thread.

Geez, if you were asking why they wear turbans in some places you'd probably be called racist. It's just a clothing style, don't look it into it so much with all of this manliness stuff, seriously.

Basically, you may occasionally encounter people doing things just as valid and acceptable as what you do, but differing in nature. Deal.

I am a straight male and I don't really get it either.

Just a point though, if girls were to have their pants hang so as to show their panties, few males would object lol.

DANG NABBIT KIDS WITH THEIR HIPPING AND HOPPING, ALWAYS ON MY LAWN WITH THEIR LOUD IPOPS AND MYTUBES. BLEEPING AND BOOPING ON THEIR INTERPHONES; IT WASNT LIKE THIS IN MY DAY.

NOBODY WOULD WEAR THEIR TROUSERS LOWER THAN IS NECESSARY, A MAN WOULD GET BEATEN BLACK AND BLUE IF HE DID. BUY A BELT. A PLAIN ONE. USE IT ONLY FOR ITS FUNCTIONALITY. WHILE YOU'RE AT IT BUY A SHIRT AND TIE TOO. COLOUR IS FOR QUEERS AND COMMUNISTS. A GOOD LONG SPELL IN TH'ARMY WILL SET THEM STRAIGHT.

Seriously though, nearly everyone in this thread is full of shit. Their trousers are lower than your exacting standards dictate, crime of the fucking century, Is your life so pathetically empty that THIS is something that you've come online to complain about? Is that your life?

"What did you do today Sweetie?"
"Well I went on a gaming website and harshly judged a small subset of society whose pants-height does not fit in with what my personal fashion taste dictates should be the standard. Important stuff. People need to know what the acceptable altitude of trousers is!"

Colour me unfucking surprised that the Intelligentsia in this thread are the kind of geniuses that believe it is prison code for "I'm up for buttfucking". Jesus Christ, Does google not exist in Stupid-land? How about Snopes?

It's pretty prevalent, and it's better to ask real people on this sort of thing. I doubt you guys out in (the UK?) have to deal with this as frequently as Americans do.

Well, for me it's because I've lost 35 pounds withi the past 7 months, and I don't have enough money for jeans that fit me properly, half of my jeans aren't supported by my waist, and I still have to wear them. For some reason my family also finds it funny to hide my belts from me, and my belts suffer from the same issue, they are all too big as well, and also, for some reason I have a tendancy to wear my boxers high, I'm not sure why, but they always seem to be magically pulled up by reverse gravity.

This is something that likely started in 1900s ghettos, where belts were unaffordable, and carried over to modern day ghettos, and slowly leaked into the wanna-be gangsters often found inside upper class neighborhoods. I personally think it's retarded. I can tell you for fact it is NOT comfortable at all. I honestly find it a bit rude, that people who live in a 1st world country, would choose to not use something so simple as a belt, when not so long ago, many people couldn't even afford that.

Hey, if this really is a comfortable form of fashion I will jump on this boat and ride it! Just inform me of your insight, your experiences, or your knowledge as to why this fad exists. ;3
i have never seen this where i live, mostly cause we're kinda 'red-neckish' up here, and they would get the shit kicked out of them for it :D

but i think it started from hip hop, and people wanting to mimic they're favorite rapper.

though why these people aren't catching beat downs for looking like retards, know what, scratch that, even handicapped people wouldn't WILLINGLY let them selves look that stupid

I don't really see this much. Though where I live, most men tend to look like they are about to go sailing...or play tennis. Though since I live in Charleston, SC, a lot of them probably are about to go sailing or play tennis.

Apologies if my post was slightly venomous, but it really makes no sense to me to wear your trousers like that. It's hardly fashion, it's just a stupid trend.

I think I heard somewhere that it was originally a signal used by Prisoners to show that they're up for a nice bump in the showers...But that might be a myth.

But for some reason it's just become popular among certain types of people who have no regard for other people's eyeballs, or where the line is between "Cool" and "fucking stupid"

Y'know, It MIGHT be comfy, but I wouldn't know, I don't KNOW anybody who does it, and I don't like to look like a complete twat

I have no fucking idea why people do this.
Copy-Paste and multiply. Thankfully I don't see this very often but sometimes it involves a slim/skinny guy who bought a size too large. I don't know what made them buy larger sized pants but I do know it tends to show off skin and brand i.e Hilfigers. I guess guys also have image issues like girls - one guy I know likes to complain he is fat and tends to wear slightly loose pants.
Because just like girls men come in many shapes, and clothing companies seem oblivious to this. Many a time I've been forced to go for a waist size up to get a suitable leg length. THe other issue I've had in the mens range is some manufacturers seem to assume anyone under a certain waist size is a boy not a man, and skimp on gentlemans space. Now my waist has gone up a few inches I rarely have such issues but a couple of years ago finding trousers that had enough space, long enough legs and small enough waist was a pain.

Always used a belt to prevent UW exposure, because I have standards.

Because people do stupid things, even more so when they're younger.

I do know why people have one of their pant legs up though, one, I think it's left, means their buying drugs, while right means they've got them to sell. Least it did a while ago.

As for your proposition.

I shall make thee a deal oh bonnie lass. I shall increase the vertical relative position of my trousers when you decrease the distance between yours and the ground :p *Pervy stare*

Course, the same question can be applied to Tramp Stamps. I don't get it.

for the vast majority of my schooling years, I wore low-riding jeans. Of course you'd never know it to speak to me: I was always the quiet nerdy science geek. The primary reason was like...90% of my clothing was hand-me-downs from my brothers, who were very much into the whole...check out my boxers...*****. thing

'

Kinda the same problem I have. Get a smaller belt that is hidden from the family instead.

And heaven help us when people stop asking why people do dumb things.

It's an outgrowth of the glorification of prison culture. People who have never been to prison, but grow up around a certain string of "culture," view prison as some kind of Tough Guy College, or a rite of passage. It's just like some folks walk with a fake limp, because it makes it look like they've been shot. All of this is meant to make the person look "tough," in much the same way animals display bizarre colors and crests to falsely appear larger and more appealing/threatening depending on the circumstance.

Basically, they're not doing it to attract females. They're doing it to "intimidate" other males. It's nothing but posturing built on romanticized notions of what qualifies a man as a Man, and an inaccurate assessment of what "tough" means and what value being "tough" has.

When you see someone sagging their pants, you're essentially looking at a human exhibiting the mental faculties of a lesser species -- "to seem, rather than to be."
