I take it that was revealed in MGS4? Yeah, I've only played part of the first Act at a friend's house.Indigo_Dingo said:You're missing it again - that was their cover story that they fed to Dead Cell, Solidus and liquid - what they actually did was try to see if faced with the truth of the irreconcilable weirdness that surrounded him, Raiden would still just do what he was told - to see if the game could control the player.orannis62 said:I think you misunderstood it. They were saying that, after seeing what Shadow Moses did with Snake, making him badass and such, the big shell was just to see if it could be repeated to make anyone a good soldier. Shadow Moses wasn't planned by the Patriots.Revenent said:As for the MGS series, Metal Gear Solid 2 takes the cake with "Shadow Moses was really a prototype operation for the Big Shell, which was set up by the Patriots as a training program to create a new Solid Snake!" That pretty much just ruined the whole plot of MGS2 and MGS1.
Oh. That must have gone over my head.Indigo_Dingo said:No, thqat was revealed in Metal Gear Solid 2, right before you fight Solidus, and about 2 minutes after Solidus says that the whole thing was based around making Raiden like Snake.
Ah ha! I've got it! Collete's clumsiness is Symphonia's deus ex machina.canarmane said:You are so right.
How about the time Sheena happens to fall in a trap door? I mean, seriously.
This this.Dorian Cornelius Jasper said:This.CmdrGoob said:Fallout 3: It's destiny, baby!
Meh? It's on topic...though I suppose it would be beating a dead horse by now.canarmane said:Let's not fill this thread with the sheer hordes of facepalms present in ToS; we might get flamed for it.
Fine fine, then how about the magical Chinese chef who's food cures any illness?Indigo_Dingo said:Sorry, if its totally awesome, you're not allowed to criticize how illogical it is. Thats pretty much the standard of every action movie ever made.Calamity said:Meh? Dark Cloud 2 has a number of them.
Like...when the flying fortress suddenly gains the ability to transform into a giant robot to save the town from being flattened.
"Hey...how come we can suddenly become a giant robot?"
"Because the heroes changed the past! Duh!"
Funny thing, I don't remember installing the function *transform into a kick-ass robot* on that fortress...
Yeah, pretty much all of MGS3's story is facepalm worthy.Indigo_Dingo said:I thought everyone was in agreement that Ocarina of Time is the best game ever, not Half Life 2, which makes it into the top 20.
Virtually everything they offer up as Volgins justification in Metal Gear Solid 3. Its so very stupid, its on a level approaching a 10 minute Bushism.
See, that doesn't bother me on account of the lines of prophecy and fate that pop up in previous Elder Scrolls games. (Well, maybe just Morrowind, because I never played Arena or Daggerfall, and as such don't know if they begin with similar imperial interventions.) It makes sense that the secret escape tunnels from the palace would be in a place the bad guys wouldn't look and for a bureaucracy to overlook the fact that they're not supposed to put a prisoner in a specific cell. It's in the stars, your fate to save the world, or at least Tamriel.CmdrGoob said:Yeah, that's one, but I can't think of many off the top of my head either, even though there must be some. I guess it's less common in games because in the character can happily fight their way out of situations that on paper would be hopelessly inescapable.
The best I can think of is that there must be lots of situations where the character gets captured but escapes in minutes in some contrived way. Like Oblivion, you start off in jail but escape instantly because in defiance of all probability and common sense the emperor is escaping and they put the escape exit in your jail cell. Who'd put the secret way in and out of your castle in a place where criminals you've locked up will see you using it?
