I used to care then I realised I was wasting my time and I needed things like female pikachus for breeding until I got a Ditto.

The only time I cared was with the Nidoran because they were legitimately different pokemon. I don't usually breed pokemon, so gender isn't too much of an issue.

In the earlier games i remember me and my friends trying to get female starting pokemon, but not really noticed the sex of pokemon until breeding them.
really? I have never gotten a female starting pokemon, always have been male.

I didn't like the red girl sign they had in Ruby, for some reason it just looked really weird and out of place, while the blue male symbol flowed nicely with the background
Im sure you can get female starting pokemon. Apparently they are harder to get to 1st evolution by 2 levels i believe. And i agree the female sign stood out from the back ground.

Edit: I Google it. %12.5 said one site. Bulbapedia said 7:1 M:F

My alakazam was female in Pearl and she kicked ass.
I never cared though.

I always chose Male if given the choice but i always chose the female character in the small tries i've had of those games on a friends gameboy, god i wish my old Gameboy worked, i haven't played or owned a game since Silver.

I only care about the gender of my starers, because Charizard just dosen`t seem as awsome as a girl.

I tend to get masculine Looking Pokemon and femimine Pokemon to corrospond to their gender. For instance, My Togekiss and Ampharos are female, while most of my Team is Male. I'm not too bothered really, but I make sure to only give TM moves to males, so I can eventually pass them down to other Pokemon, should I wish to breed for new ones and get some use out of a one-time TM.

The bias kinda makes sense since our perception of masculinity entails being more proficient in combat which is pretty much what Pokemon is all about last time I checked.

That said: both most new pokemon as well as the concept of breeding them just seem completely retarded to me. I'll stick to Red and Blue, thank you very much. (Pearl is not even a colour!)

I catch teh first pokemon I see. If it's male, good for it, if it's female, good for it.

I try to have a mix though in my team though just in case something uses attract.

I generally end up with mostly male Pokemon (I'm male myself, by the way), though I tend to play as the female trainer (except for my current male Diamond trainer). Not inentional, I just don't really care about the Pokemon gender. I don't bother breeding, I don't really care about filling the Pokedex, so the gender doesn't matter to me unless my opponent happens to have Charm or Attract or whatever as a move.

I would prefer a female version so I could get an egg and breed another one to trade or w/e.

Depends on the pokemon. I'm not sure if they still have the stat differences but I used to get males of pokemon that generally had higher attack stats anyway and females of those that didn't. I tend to prefer emphasis on one attribute and have that attribute be different for most of my pokemon (though I'd want high HP and high defence to usually be the same pokemon).

I never used a female Nidoran because Nidoking was a lot stronger.

I really didn't care until Sapphire when I realized that I had only caught males from the very beginning and decided to stick with only males. I've given up really good Pokemon just to get the males.

They should make more moves that change depending on the user's/receiver's sex. Like for example Low Kick should always be a critical hit on males.

I prefer the more masculine looking Pokemon to be males, and the feminine to be females...I just find a female Machamp too weird.

I think I did back in the original gold...I always had a slight male preference, but I think it was only 'cause of the stat boost.
yeah same here
