Funny coincidence that I just started playing pokemon blue again.
I remember a battle I once had with my rival. It was the final battle in the pokemon league. Before the battle I heald up all of my pokemon and then I started the battle. I promised myself not to use any potions during the fight to make it more interesting. It was quite a tough fight. We beat each others pokemon one after another until only our starters remained. He had his Blastoise and I had my Charizard. The decision of the battle was made when he used hydro pump. I thought, I was a goner but then I couldn't belive my eyes when I saw that my charizard had still about 10 hp left. I used flamethrower (I know it's stupid to use it against a water pokemon but he hadn't much hp left either and I thought it's kind of cool to defeat him with that attack). He was defeated and I was really happy and felt like I had just won a really EPIC battle and I still remember it even though it happened 9 or 10 years ago.

Spending hours in the game corner just to get a porygon, then never using it again.
Also, for some reason I remember the bicycle road or whatever it was called, where I fought a lot of dodrios and koffings. I haven't played the game since the 90's and I can still remember that almost completely unremarkable area. Wierd.

Another random memory, you can catch Growlithe outside Lavender Town. I don't think I ever actually used a Growlithe though.

I once left my {Pokemon Red cartridge in my pokcets when they went into the washing machine. Came out with most of the label missing but it worked fine.
Also, got the day of school to go and get Pokemon Yellow. Best day EVER!

- Having to catch a Weedle and evolve it to Butterfree to beat Brock
Caterpie evolves into Butterfree ;)

Hmm...where to begin:
- The awesome 8-bit music (though you can get an item on HG/SS that relives that)
- Due to my love of the original Ghost Pokemon, Lavender Town was brilliant, and the tower was bloody scary!
- Holding down B and <- when I threw a Pokeball or used a move because I thought it would make it stronger.
- Fighting a legendary, only to find when I go to throw a Pokeball it says "The Box is full!" and weeping a little bit as I have spent the last 20 minutes trying to inflict sleep on Articuno.
- Speaking of, Seafoam Islands.
- Starting with Bulbasaur and destroying Brock and Misty; staring with Squirtle and destroying Brock; starting with Charmander and having to obtain, like Pyro said, a Butterfree.
- Beedrill was awesome.

To be honest, I still love the Pokemon games. In my opinion, it goes Gen II > Gen I > Gen IV > Gen III, excluding the remakes of Red, Blue, Gold and Silver, because they are class.

"I like shorts, they are comfy and easy to wear." *challenged* o_O

"Fu fu fu fu fu" (Seriously, some old woman laughs like that in Gold/Silver or something. How can you consider that laughing?)

*After finally ended the game I return to find the Daycare house* "Ah, you're Pidgeotto is doing fine, if you want it back you have to pay ¤1200000" (o____o) Got myself a level 63 Pidgeotto or something, left it when it was level 12 or so....

Oh the first gen. I remember when the show hit Finland and it had been a real boom in Japan and the States and i was like 8 years old and watched the first episode and fell in love with it. Started to collect cards and played Red and Blue on my GameBoy Colour.
I especially remember that my brother caught a Pikachu and wanted a Raichu so he trained it to level 80 when he was at the 6th gym but it didn't evolve so he thought he had done something wrong and started a new game deleting the old one only to find out two days later that you must buy a thunder stone from the super market.
Catching them all was a real challenge and also when playing the first times trying to evolve Graveler, Machamp and Hunter into their last forms before knowing about the trade thing, luckily I had a brother as eager as me.
As for the show I actually shed a tear when Butterfree left Ash for the Pink Butterfly :,( sad moment... and many many more.

Okay guys, you got me to register with this thread. The first version I played was Yellow on the GBC. I remember...
- The awesome animated intro with Pikachu running at the screen and shouting his name through the magic of GB DPCM
- Having to catch a Weedle and evolve it to Butterfree to beat Brock
- Raising a Dratini into an absolutely kickass Dragonite with a hyperbeam that could annihilate anything
- The feeling of sadness as the S.S. Saint Anne sailed off, locking me off from its interior for the rest of the game
- Catching an Eevee for the first time and naming him in honor of my friend Steven ("Steevee")
- Catching a Vulpix and raising it into a kickass fire-breather
- Evolving my Haunter into a Gengar via trade for the first time
- Receiving Porygon. Hell yeah!
- The feeling of amazed disbelief when I first caught Zapdos
- The infuriating battle of trying to catch Snorlax

To be perfectly honest, I enjoyed Silver as much as Yellow, in spite of the disappointingly-stupid Unown. I'm still trying to make it through Heart Gold. I've finally started nicknaming my Pokemon. I've got C.Coolidge (Whooper) and am looking forward to catching W.H. Taft (Snorlax) =)
Welcome!! and what an absolutely perfect way to start your Escapist Forum roaming!!

pokemon yellow was my first ever game :) i remember being at school and just spending all day thinking about coming home and playing it. The first time i beat brock was with a team of pidgeys, i sand attacked the fuck out of geodude and onyx before slowly gusting them down, but i remember being scared of the sand blowing away and them hitting me because i was using gust.

I miss not knowing so much about pokemon, im getting all excited about black/white coming out because theres no old pokemon on the continent, so maybe some of the mystery will come back :) i wish theyd release a 1st gen version with terrible graphics and a retro soundtrack (and no stupid beauty competitions or whatever)

Good lord

My brother told me pokemon was the coolest thing.

I believed him,
And to this day, I thank my brother.

I started with yellow, hated pikachu because he looked stupid, and wouldn't evolve.

I fell in love when I found out that moon stones weren't worthless...they evolved Nidorino's (and for a long time, I had no idea that they did anything else).

Also, Lapras is a god
And when my Ivysaur evolved into a Venusaur, I cried and nearly vowed to never eat a salad again.

Also...I could never figure out why a nugget (at the time I hadn't heard about gold nuggets, and assumed it was chicken), was worth $5000.

Oh Pokemon Yellow, you made me learn so many things.
