The group began their trek along the path towards the Rock Tunnel. After a bit of travel, Jeffrey walked up to Magnus and asked him something.
"So Magnus," Jeffrey asked Magnus. "What were you going to tell me?"
"Oh right," Magnus responded. "You asked me earlier why I became a trainer, right?"
"Yeah, what of it?"
"I have a response now."
"Well then let's hear it."
"Well," Magnus took a deep breath. "I guess you could say, that I became a Trainer in order to become a Breeder. Most Breeders work with their Pokemon, doing whatever they can to make it either the strongest, most attractive, whatever pleases them. As for myself, I plan on becoming a Breeder, as in someone who actually goes out and finds Pokemon with good genetic traits. This is part of the reason I don't catch many Pokemon, and it's also the reason whenever I meet a new Pokemon, I give it a thorough look-over... to see if their trainer has been taking into account their best traits and features. Not just their battling skills."
"Oh, how've we been doing so far?" Jeffrey referred to himself and the others.
"Well, with your Pokemon it's not so bad. Your Lucario's spikes are larger than most, which in the wild is a desirable trait. Your Machop, it's rather unremarkable. As for your Charmander he's got a proportionally larger tail, I suggest teaching it Iron Tail or some other move when the oppotunity presents itself."
"Iron Tail... got it. But you still haven't answered my question. Why did you want to be a Breeder or Trainer or whatever?"
"Honestly, I became a Trainer because I wanted to learn more about Pokemon. Sometimes the best way to learn it to get out in the field, so I did. After High School, I packed up, and left on my journey with Quillz. As for why I started in Kanto, well, it just seemed like a good place to start, ya know? Get out of my own country and check out the world. But, I guess that in the grand scheme of things... I was bored."
"Really? You were finished with school, what was there to be bored about?"
"That's the thing... school took up most of my time, what with all the homework and studying and such. With that gone... I found myself just bored. Then my brother kept calling about how much he was enjoying himself on his journey, all the Pokemon he was catching, and people he was meeting. Something about it just called out to me. As soon as I could, I said my goodbyes and hopped a boat to Kanto."
"So that's it? That's the reason you became a Trainer?"
"Yeah, that's all I can think of right now. Why did you care to know anyway, Jeffrey?"
