It did seem like the same old story with a new character... If GTA is to survive they will need to bring in a new story arc.
Like what?

Letting us play a corrupt politician, cop or something?

If they made it go away from the criminal thing, people would be even more pissed off because that would mean even less sandboxing.

I loved GTA IV, people expected something else, so it's their own fault.
It is the consistent use of the heroes arc. Hero enters, falls from grace works way into organization. I'm just looking for something a bit diff, but not completely sure. I honestly only played part of GTA4, but I have played the series since the top down GTA2.
I'm looking for innovation, not better graphics

Gears of War 2.

That poll really should have had an "Other" feature.
I was thinking of doing that but I wanted to encourage you all to write in any missing titles from the list. I think some would've clicked "other" then X.

Cant believe Gears 2 didnt make the list... and the 360 is the only current gen console I own. I voted for GTA4, Ive still not finished it. Just not very inspiring.

I can see whats being said about CoD 5 WAW. Its a good game, although the spawns drive me mad on muiltiplayer. The problem is that COD4 was the best shooter ever made. Its a tough act to follow.

Now Im so excited about CoD modernwarfare 2 I dont see how I cant be disappointed when it finally arrives. My hopes are so high a little bit of wee just came out...
They should not have made it COD 4.

I don't think you can say No More Heroes is that overrated. The only person who even gave it any attention is Yahtzee, it had no marketing, and it's not gaming mags were falling over themselves to say "this is THE game of 2008" like they were with... everything else on that poll.

Fable 2 and I have a huge grudge. I really really really wish I hadn't bought that game. Slim to no chance I could sell it off either. Grumble grumble.
Second that. I dont understand whats so fun about it. I just go to new areas and wed another woman. I have around 4 wives and havent even completed the first mission.

Dont do that. Belive me. It ends badly to go off topic.

Back on topic, I dont get why everyone hates GTA4 so much. It is like GTA perfect. There is (hardly) room for imporvement.

While MGS4 is by no means a bad game, I voted for it because of the critical reception.
Some things the critics ignored or got wrong:

1: It was far from 2008's best looking game, with the exception of the excellent models and animation. However, the art direction never shows off what may or may not be impressive dynamic environmental lighting or draw distance. Far Cry 2 actually showed that it was competent in these respects, which is why I think it has better graphics.
2: The story is convoluted and the cutscenes are too long to be memorable. Plus, the voice acting and writing rarely venture beyond "solid" territory (no pun intended).
3: Combining over two dozen gameplay elements is fine in theory, but the execution here is a bit gimmicky all around, and the game obviously expects that you've already mastered stuff like CQC in previous games. (This was my first foray into MGS.)
4: The AI is pretty bad on the whole, which actually makes up for the irritating handling issues (such as losing your grip on the weapon when shot) that plague the game.

These issues aren't as bad as I make them out to be, but they are there, and the fact that they slipped by so many reviewers that gave the game perfect 10s is rather perplexing.

I had to go with Brawl. It was too much like its predecessors, which is coming a bit too much of a habit for Nintendo. :/

I think GTAIV was maybe overhyped, but I wasn't disappointed in the slightest by it. I didn't miss anything it dropped from GTASA apart from maybe the land scale, but I was completely sucked in by the story line (and if you whinge about people constantly calling you, you obviously haven't noticed the ability to turn calls/texts off).
how do I turn the calls off?

even with people not calling, I was still let down by the game, although the multiplayer was decent, for a little bit anyway until the children started migrating to GTA IV from Halo 3 and COD4

Wasn't much into the story, but since none of the GTA games' stories interested me, I wasn;t suprised.

Hell, GTA IV was the first GTA game whos story I actually finished, all other GTA games I did like 3 or 3 missions then spawned a tank and started killing.

I was going to say fable 2, but hell fable 2 doesn't annoy you every 30 seconds like GTA4 does. Even with people not calling it still didn't seem like it WANTED me to play the game and go have fun fun fun. Just disappointed by it really.

Fable2 at least had its retarded fun for how simplistic and short it was.

Fable 2 and GTA IV. If anyone voted for NMH, please give me a reason why it was overrated.

Bring up the phone menu, select Options then there's a Turn Sleep Mode On or something similar.

Brawl was severely overhyped and didn't tread much new ground. They made a more extensive adventure mode, which I know I wanted, and a lot of people did, but it wound up being just long and bland. And for a game that is supposed to showcase Nintendo's history, 99% of it was basically stuff that happened since Melee, Pit being the one real exception.

At least GTA4 let you throw yourself out of a helicopter.
