How many apocalypse dates were smashed? They get all this big press for stating reasons why, but then quietly disappear when it doesn't happen. Derp is all I gotta say.

I fear what people will do when they think the end of the world is about to happen...

I wonder if it will make people question what they believe

I think Im gana pull an all nighter and just game with friends.

Quite frankly, I hope its real.

You see, it's my 19 birthday that day, and I wanna end it with a bang. (Get it?)

Edit; Actually, I hope it happens on the day after the 21st, just to eff with everyone minds.

You'd think they'd leave a note just in case, "Sorry but our calender only goes to 2012. PS: The world ends in 2012." It's possible but the chance of it actually happening is next to nothing.

God, this again. I thought we were finally done with all the threads where everyone agrees that 2012 is a load of bullshit and chips and acts like they're being edgy by saying it. I was really hoping we wouldn't have to see another one.

So yes, it's hogwash. But, has any of us actually ever met someone who believes it? I haven't. This debate keeps getting brought up by people who already think the debate is a moot point. There's like three crazy guys in a basement with tinfoil hats somewhere that believe the 2012 stuff, and they're the only people who believe it. Other than that, it's just hollywood and other people who write fiction doing what people who write fiction have been doing for a long time, 'borrowing' concepts from ancient mythologies no one believes any more since they're now the free idea bucket, and having a little bit of fun with it.

How many more threads will I be forced to see about this?
What -I- don't understand is why people who are so adamantly against certain re-occurring threads go out of their way to post in them, hiking up the post count and increasing it's ranking. It's like the reverse of trolling.
Well, this thread was here, whether I posted or not. Done deal. I can do like you said, ignore it and move on, or I can post in the admitedly futile hope of detering future threads, and at least have the chance to get a good little rant in. A stricter utilitarian might have opted for the first choice, but I, good sir, tend to lean towards deontology, and as you are already well aware, I opted for the second choice.

But really, this is such a pointless thread. The discussion value is an illusion, since everyone already has the same opinion. I'll reiterate my earlier point, has anyone here ever actually met someone who believes in 2012? Have you even met someone who's met someone who believes in 2012? Hell, I've never even met someone on the internet who believes in it. I mean, I'm sure if I googled it I could find some... but by that point it's like, what's the point? If the minority who believes it is so small you have to google them, why bother discussing it? It'd be like if I made a thread titled "Now, saying this may be contraversial, but I'm not afraid to admit that I feel as if Hitler did some morally objectionable things." Who's going to make the counterpoint to that? The Escapist's massive/nonexistant neo-nazi user group?

I would understand having this thread here if this were a community of people who discuss conspiracy theories, or perhaps a support group for Mayans who've been frozen in a block of ice for hundreds of years and just recently thawed... but this is a community of mostly intelligent gamers. It's just not a demographic in which one might expect to find 2012 believers to debate with, so why bother?

The Solar flare that is supposed to kill us in 2012 is actually coming in 2013... LOL.
anyway it probably won't kill us, just knock out the power and cause some traffic and weather issues.

My calendar ends at December 31 this year! Does that mean it's the end of the world?!

The scientist that told everyone about the 2012 Maya calender translation. Have said that there was a misscalculation. It is in about 200 years or something like that. Not that it is going to happen.
So Does this mean that it will happen... just not in 2012 but in 4012?
because then I would still be right that the Mayans did predict the end of the world AND the there would be a big party in 3400!
YAYYYYYY!

bu seriously 2012 is crap
That's 2000 years. Not 200.
And I think 2012 is a cool year. Not as cool as 2000, but still cool.

OT: So real. I mean, they stopped carving... how many hundreds of years into the future? Oh yeah, that's so the end of the world.

Honestly, I share your opinion, but don't act like you were forced to see anything. You chose to click this thread, knowing full well what was in it.

I just look forward to watching the riots in the streets while I sit on my beanbag laughing!
Ah yes, it will be beautiful.

I think i heard somewhere on the internet that some guy has tried asking 2012 Apocalypse believers that if they truly beleived it would happen then they should give him their stuff because it won't be useful. Or some thing on the lines of "Sign this contract, if we survive the apocalypse then your wrong and i'm allowed your stuff." No one thus far had signed the contract he said.

I just hope no one gets hurt when the apocalypse beleivers go into a frenzy and start breaking all kinds of laws.
