I wouldn't assume the US actively did it, however I do think they had warning well before the event and opted intentionally to ignore it. Whether it was "lolz yeah right, like they could fly planes" or "great, now we can spent billions blowing up two third world countries for no reason without having to make anything up", I have no idea.

The destruction of the World Trade Center (and the attack on the Pentagon) was an act of terrorism carried-out by a small group of religious fanatics.
If you want to mislead a populace into doing what you tell it to then there are cheaper and far less risky methods than staging an attack on your own soil.

There's probably something they're not telling us, like the group that did it just brainwashed some fools to do it so America would have an excuse to invade Iraq for oil money or some such.

The 9/11 attacks were the reason given for invading Afghanistan. The pretexts for the Iraq invasion primarily focussed on the Iragi regime's supposed stockpiles of WMDs (which did not in fact exist), with some rather hurried humanitarian attempts at justification tacked-on as well.

The only thing I found weird is that America was shocked when two buildings came crashing down.

Considering over 2000 people died in one of the only attacks on the mainland USA since the country gained independance, I didn't find the reaction particularly weird at all.

I'm not really so sure about the involvement of the US government, it seems that both the conspirators and the government are bending the evidence, but I find it hard to believe that a country would go to that length and kill thousands or its own people.

I had a Turkish au pair at the time of 9/11, and he refused to believe that a fellow Muslim would do it, and he genuinely though that some Jews did it. I'd just like to say that I don't share these views, I'm just telling you some of the opinions of someone I know, for an answer that has a wider view, because this guy probably isn't on the Escapist.

Whilst I agree that it did change things. I belive it's in no way as influental as the assassination of Frans Ferdinand. And that the wars that have been declared/intensified because of 11/9 are injust and unwinnable.

Oh and I certainly believe it was a terrorist act not some conspiracy.
