Poll: Aion Online, Killer of WoW?!?!

You know what would really kill WoW? An MMO which has all of WoW's content and variety, better graphics and artwork, and has a combat system that doesn't rely solely on you clicking on someone and then pressing some buttons until whichever one of you has the highest level, the best spells/skills, and the best equipment kills the other guy. If they had combat which was based on actual skill, where you could still defeat someone who was ten levels higher than you and had much better equipment if you really knew what you were doing, I can imagine the game becoming much more popular than most MMOs out there(not to mention a lot less grindy). Like, imagine if there was an MMO which had a combat system like God of War or Devil May Cry, or Hell, even if it was like Star Ocean: Till the End of Time or Zelda: Ocarina of Time, that would be a lot more fun than any other MMO's combat system.

The sad thing is that such a concept would probably never work because those games rely heavily on precise timing to execute dodges, combos, and other complex maneuvers, and even the relatively brief lag introdcued in an online network operating under ideal circumstances would make a frenetic melee combat system extremely muddy and not really all that fun. Oh well; a guy can dream, right?

All in all though, any game that presumes to topple WoW will have to face an immense uphill battle because WoW is already so well established. People have characters, equipment, guilds, and social networks on WoW that many of them have dedicated YEARS to building. You can't expect people to just abandon something they've invested so much time into and start over from bloody scratch, now can you? Maybe some WoW players will try Aion for a while, but, unless Aion's overall quality is ASTOUNDINGLY better than WoW's, if it comes time for them to make a decision about which game to keep playing you can bet they'll stick with WoW because of the community. It's that simple.

And Aion's sucess with non-WoW players will probably be limited because most of the people who aren't playing WoW (or EVE, or one of those shoddy Korean free-2-play MMOs or whatever) don't really like MMOs and either won't keep playing past the introductory period or will just leave it alone. Unless, of courese, Aion has the aforementioned really innovative combat system that's more rewarding and less grindy.

Seriously, Its like wow, but more mature and with fewer fucktards and griefers.
No, you need to get serious, my friend, because EVE made griefing a career option. Ever been caught in a gatecamp, or get ganked in 0.0 space by some jerk with a faction ship when you were just trying to get to a mission? There are entire player corporations dedicated to piracy in EVE, and they behave JUST LIKE REAL PIRATES. I would argue that that's one of the things that made EVE cool; the depths of space were a dangerous place, full of jerks who would shoot you down and pod-kill you just for the fun of it. And when you hit your warp just in time to escape from the 'rats, it was a huge rush.

In WoW, when I was around level 45, a level 70 followed me around for 4 bloody hours, killing anything I went near, before I had a chance to do the quest I was on. THAT is griefing.

Blowing up another man's ship to make money through ransom is not griefing, as the definition of griefing is doing something with the SOLE PURPOSE of ruining another person's experience.

The fact that they are adding, in a nutshell, werewolves as a playable race is a silent cry for help and everyone knows it. With games like Aion, Old Republic, and Star Trek on the way, Wow will not die, but will be crippled, lik an old war veteran in a wheel chair.

Well considering the top 3 alliance guilds on my old(back when I used to play that is) server all stopped raiding for the sake of playing that game. I'd say it will be a good distraction for a bit. Personally, looking at the combat for it, I see nothing more than WoW with wings...The flying seems unnecessary and it seems to me like the game is going to be too busy wanking off all over it's graphics to give 2 thirds of a shit about anything else. I'm off the MMO drug for good as far as I'm concerned so I don't personally care what happens to either of them.

like many people have said, the tower of WoW is Huge and build with too many laser cannons to be toppled by any force, we shall wait until it keeps growing taller and taller, and it shall fall because its too big (and the level 3000 limit will make players like it less)

I love all the nerd rage in here. Why can't they both fufill different niches? Why does one have to beat the other?

Thats all I'm saying, I play WoW, Im certainly not knocking any upcoming MMO's like a jackass but...seriously do you need a thread to convince people of the awesomeness of your chosen MMO if you're that confident? Those harassing people for having a different opinion in here need to seriously go outside and breathe some air...

Otherwise, Yay Aion? Good luck on launch? If I get a positive response from the 5 people I know trying it, I too will jump on board to have a go. But alas money is slim right now so I need reassurances before I go hammering dosh into somthing unchecked to my taste.

Havent you noticed that everything labeled "WOW killer" is doomed to failure? the only thing big enough and powerful enough to "kill" WOW is.....you guessed it, WOW itself.
actually the star wars MMO looks epic from the 20min walkthrough video. i can hardly wait.

Only thing to kill WoW is WoW Free being 100% Free to play. Aion may take players away from WoW but WoW will live on. I preasonal hated WoW (over hyped in my opion)

WoW is undestroyable.

you have 11.5 million (last i heard) players on WoW,

Using all this money, WoW continues to unleash expansion after Expansion, drawing in new players ALL THE TIME.

many, many MMOs have gone, i can totally take down WoW!!

and failed.

lets face it, WoW is an inevitability.

So aion online has been called the "killer of WoW" in for many reasons. I've played both and personally i think Aion could pull it off. I really dont care if Aion is almost a mirror image of WoW, i feel it takes what WoW created and then fixes all its flaws >8] I think its about time somebody stepped up to the plate and told WoW to go **** itself. though i may just be talking through my teeth because i'm a graphics whore (i.e. i likey teh pretty screenies) and Aion is runnin with the help of crytek. So anyone else think Aion Can pull it off?
No, definately not with Cataclysm coming up.

I have to wonder if all the people saying WoW is unkillable remember a little old MMO called Everquest. WoW, too, shall pass although probably not to Aion and mostly I think that comes down to Aion suffering from an extreme bout of Asian seriousness, part of WoW's lasting appeal is Blizzard's humor. Asian games, or at least games translated from Asian languages, tend to be far too self important to stoop to things like jokes and pop culture references.

Yeah, actually, you're 100% right. Grad school seems to have put me out of touch with my gaming terminology.

In that case, I guess the REAL griefers were those damn NPC agents who kept sending me out into 0.0 to do Level 3 missions. The bastards...

Why? Do you have any actual reason for WoW to fuck off or are you just bashing it in an attempt to be different?
