No. There is zero proof. Based exclusively on proof there is no life anywhere else.xHipaboo420x said:The evidence is limited to our galaxy. There are ∞ number of galaxies. Hence "stupid or pessimistic."cuddly_tomato said:Or, you know, relying on actual evidence, of which there is none for aliens.
Mathematically, maybe not. But that's not the point.snowplow said:Even if it were infinite, that's still not proof, just probability and wishful thinking on your part.
You've missing the point entirely, and I can't be bothered to explain it to you. Ask me again tomorrow if you still care.cuddly_tomato said:No. There is zero proof. Based exclusively on proof there is no life anywhere else.
"Space is big man" isn't proof, it is speculation. And the lack of belief in someone elses speculation is hardly grounds to call someone stupid or pessimistic.
QFT. There is a formula out there to find out how many intelligent life forms there are out there right now I'm just too lazy to look that up.Radeonx said:Given the incredible amount of space in the universe, I believe that there is bound to be life somewhere other than Earth.
With that said, I don't think that they will look like the stereotypical alien.
So you're saying that there's probably a lot of smog in the universe?SakSak said:Considering that the three most common elements in the solar system (and thus by extrapolation, in the universe) are, in order of appearance, Hydrogen (70 mass-%), Helium (27,5 mass-%) and Oxygen (0,6 mass-%), this makes water the most common bi-element molecule in the universe: H2O.
So, yeah... Also, a funny totally entirely absolutely unrelated fact: Carbon is the fourth most common element in our solar system, with 0,3 mass percent.
Hydrocarbons and water... hmm....
I guess that's what I was trying to convey in my original post - I think I need to calm down.snowplow said:I'd argue that its realistic, but since I am a pessimist I can't really judge what my own viewpoint appears to others now can I.
Anyway until proof appears, I acknowledge no aliens, and I'll probably die before any evidence arises. A pity, but what can I do; life is short.
I'd like to know how that works, considering how:ultrachicken said:I'm having trouble finding the article, but for a school project I came across an article that stated that water has been found in distant solar systems.
With that in mind, alien life seems likely.
