The Magic the Gathering elves are cool. They aren't those hippie-like elves that defend forests peacefully. They are more likely to rip you to shreds unlike that eldritch abomination behind you.

I hate elves, in most games.. (beside playing my Nelfy dr00d in WoW that is)

BUT I simply LOVE them in real RPGs (DnD and such) and in novels of any kind, when pictured like Kael'Thas in Christie Golds "Arthas: Rise of the Lich King" or any of the Eberron setting books, I find that they add some spice, compassion and flare to an else boring story of men and dwarves..

And.. Long live Drizzt :D How can you hate elves with a guy like him around?

And the idea of stats being scewed towards elves is pure BS, play wow, name a Nelf racial that actually compares to the humans, gnomes, dwarves and spacegoats main racials..

The best Elves were in the Lord of the Rings
I think the "best elves ever" are in The Shadow of Yesterday. It captures an essential thematic thing about their image without all the pointy-ears-and-trees-and-fancy-civilization stuff.

It's simple, beautiful, punchy: TSOY's elves are immortal solipsists who survive on the strength of their egotism.

To them, you're all just a dream. One day, the elf will wake up and ascend to a higher mode of consciousness, and you'll just be gone, you temporary and worthless figment; until then, you're a plaything, to manipulate and dispose of whoever the elf wishes.

And "immortal" means actually immortal. They don't age. Their bodies aren't really bodies. If you destroy one, he'll come back into being somewhere else eventually (parallels to Tolkien's reincarnation thing).

The only way to actually kill an elf? Love. I think that's kinda hardcore.

Wood elves, cave elves dark elves, snow elves, high elves the list goes on. Elves are everything that is wrong with modern fantasy and we would all be better off if they are purged, so writers take the initiative to invent something new.

If you hate elves, you should play Overlord. You get to get to commit genocide on them in the game. It's great fun since they are portrayed as annoying, fey, emotards.

varies upon which kinda elf. Dark elfs in HOMM5 and in the Warhammer universe are awesome, but pansy poets and tree-shaggers sucks.

Depending on what I roleplay I either want to kill them on sight or want nothing to do with them.

Elves are okay, but I don't like playing as them in games - unless it's a Drizzt. I hate the ones from Oblivion though...

well, hating elves in the elder scrolls series? i can understand wanting to murder the elf voice actors, but: morrowind. i dont feel i have to say more on the subject, for that series at least.

i think that lots of fantasy worlds feel the need to throw elves in somewhere, just as an obligation, like orcs (and/or goblins), and in a lot of places they just plain dont fit the world, or the writer put no thought into them and they end up boring generic goody goody idiots.

Nope, you aren't. Just look up the saga of Boatmurdered.

Elves tend to be rather big jerks that think they're higher than everyone else.

I don't hate them, but I hate how much they have been made into little ponces by crowds of pussies who want to be all cute and ethereal and attractive. To hell with that.
