Believing in Doomsday based on moronic predictions is just like believing in christianity based on the bible. It's all BULLSHIT.

Up to today dozens of people have predicted that the world would and and up to today they have all been wrong.

I just saw that IHC or whatever comercial about 2012. And being the come rational person I am I think I might puke. Am I worrying to much about 2012? Do you think it'll happen?
Since I'm not a raging idiot, no, I don't think anything world-ending will happen.
The predictions for 2012.

The year 2012 will be the potential start of the earths magnetic reversal hens temperatures will rise rapidly and at the same tie the sun is expected to flare. with the reduced magnetic field of the earth there could easily be a disconnection and all out shorting of the national power grids.

It's not for raging idiots, its for paranoid scientists.

Lets review the current track record of apocolyptic fortellings.

Amount of times the world was predicted to end: ~400
Amount of times the world has actually ended: 0

I think we are in the clear my friend.

Let me put it this way. Meteors travel the depths of space in the millions, the millions of millions. Eventually one is going to hit us, fact. Run the chance of being hit over and over for hundreds of thousands of years and no matter how small it is it will happen. So think about it this way. Its not a matter of if the world ends. Its a matter of when. Dont bother with the crazy "It was written on a wall by thousand year old savages that thought blood sacrifices made better harvests" claims. The end of the world will come in a very boring way. Chances are our entire planet will be vaporised in a cataclysmic explosion before we can even take it all in.

In conclusion its a stupid idea and no one should worry.

There is nothing to worry about, relax. Remember, even if there was some giant catastrophic end of the world scenario, what are you really going to gain by worrying about it. After all, you'll likely die in said catastrophic event, so just live your life to the fullest up until 2012 if you're really worried. Then if nothing happens, continue living your life to its fullest anyway.

Also, 2012 could just be the end of the current age. Nothing big.
Actually you're right, December 21 2012 marks the beginning of the Age Of Aquarius. If you're into that kind of thing.
Well, I've never been against hanging out in a field of flowers while dressed like Jimi Hendrix with music from an old 80's movie/play playing. Care to join me?
Hang on a sec... (Roll roll roll, lick, twist) **FLICK FLICK** pfffffffff... 'ere, lez go!
pfffff, why thank you. This is a lovely...hand made sucker...cause we would never promote drug use on the Escapist.

The whole Mayan calendar ending thing...
It can be explained so many other ways than "that's when the world will end." Maybe the Mayans didn't feel the need to continue any farther, since their calendar was so far ahead of the time when they wrote it. Maybe the Mayans were wiped out before they could add on more days. Either way, there's no sense worrying over it.

They said that the rapture would happen in the 1800's. It never did obviously, otherwise the final battle would have happened already. Why should anyone pay any more stock into the mayans? Remember, prophecy is vague enough to adapt to just about anything and still be right. There are some interpretations of the prophesy that suggests that it isn't even the end of the world, just the beginning of a new age, possibly a renaissance.

Remember Y2K? It never happened either.

I'm personally holding out for the World War Z.

We get the Olympics. The world will not end in 2012 because we get the fucking Olympics, the English will not allow planetary destruction until we've had our Olympics and even God(s) can't match the English for stubborn.

So far the world has ended twice this year, in 2004, 2001, 2000, 1999 AND 1998, they're just the one's I bothered noticing.
It's a dumb movie advert for a dumb movie, nothing to worry about.

If you actually did some in depth research about it you would find there is nothing to worry about.

Just take it easy bro.
Since when do you need to perform in-depth research to come to a common-sense conclusion?
Theres no such thing as common sense. We need to get it re-coined, uncommon sense.

And i can't wait till 2012 passes, because i've got 140 dollars coming in from bets, and free lunch from my high school english teacher.
I was thinking it could be something like "what-was-once common sense".

No, and so what if it did? It's not like we'd be equiped to stop hypothetical god-like powers from destroying the earth anyway...

2012 is the completely wrong Mayan calendar! It is only the second biggest. Mayan doomsday will most likely happen in 2000 years.

Humans are ridiculously deluded.

Also Del-Toro your avatar is pure awesome.

You're all insane! The world ended 9 years ago during the Y2K crises! Of course it will end again, didn't you see the Matrix? That was a message from the survivors. They keep trying to tell us that every so often, the Evil unites and destroys humanity. And they've been getting better at it each time! We need to break free from this illusion of freedom and humanity and fight back. I've been building a bunker to protect us, but we have to go now, so hurry up and get in! Only then will you be safe from this horrifying disaster that is about to befall the world again.
