After all, you'll likely die in said catastrophic event, so just live your life to the fullest up until 2012 if you're really worried. Then if nothing happens, continue living your life to its fullest anyway.

Also, 2012 could just be the end of the current age. Nothing big.

Actually you're right, December 21 2012 marks the beginning of the Age Of Aquarius. If you're into that kind of thing.
