Manga is better because you don't see any fillers
This is true that's why i stick with the usual 26 episode shows. it's really like a long movie but has maybe one, not filler, but funny out there episode. Not like DBZ or naruto with their 5 episodes of dialogue, just fight already sheesh

I watch a bit of anime, and I've read a few mangas, but I prefer anime over mangas because it tends to be cheaper. I'm still pretty new to anime; I've only seen all the episodes of three animes (Basilisk, Serial Experiments Lain, and Paranoia Agent.)

I only like Live Action shows. Anime and Mange are way too cheezy and Japanese for my taste.

I watch a couple anime's, and if they're good enough I read the respective mangas if they have one. I greatly prefer Suzimiya Haruhi and Gurren Lagann to Naruto and Bleach. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a pretty funny recent anime if you don't mind subs, and it looks pretty, too.

Peers over the walls of his fort, "Well, I don't watch nor read either. Because its not really of interest to me. And to be perfectly honest, whenever I see it on DeviantArt, it looks really pervy or even pedophilic. And the whole Pokemon thing bypassed me, so I didn't get into it by that route..." You should consider watching:
- Monster (Not really about the supernatural, it's a really great story about a Doctor falsely accused of murder and how he attempts to find the person responsible for his demise, the same person whom he chose to save the life, at the expense of his own career)

- Blood+ ( a decent Nurture vs Nature debate between the main character and her primary antagonist, her own sister)

- Finally, Gurren Lagann - which is simply awesome. :)

Oh and for reading:
- Berserk ( Deep characters, a tragic story - Epic)

"I recall I saw 'Spirited Away' once because Jonathan Ross recommended it - liked it. That counts as anime, right?" *chews on a rotten Tomato idly*
Yes, it's indeed a decent anime, and made by a master of the genre no doubt. While I do still prefer most brawl over brain type of plot (and with a lot of humor in between) like Bleach and One-Piece, or more mature dark fantasy stories like Berserk, stories like Xam'd:Lost Memories, Grave of the Fireflies are still able to move me to the brink of tears.

I only consider manga if they're odd volumes, but that might be because comics in general are not for me.
With anime it's a different story - there are some real gems out there and I can hardly understand people saying they don't like it at all. They're so different and varied, I don't think you can't enjoy a single one, except if you don't like TV shows in general. It sounds to me as if someone told me he "didn't like music".
But in my opinion there's a real bunch of shit out there - mostly the ones that get broadcasted. But I likes my Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop :3

I used to partake in both, till one day I saw how juvenile and perverted most anime and manga are, and forswore everything but Cowboy Bebop, which is just awesome, with no "for a cartoon" qualifier's.

both, but I do tend to prefer the manga version of.. well everything so far... the cartoons can be great and all, but often are altered " and not for the better"
As a Mangaka myself I have a hard time debating that " IF" I should ever land a deal to go animated, how much creative leeway would I give the studio?

do I make them hold off until I have chapters far out enough that they can never catch up, and thus less need for fillers? or do I risk the chance of seeing them put Aikoku Tora in a dance off with some new character for the sake of a " fluff" episode...

Well, a little bit of both. I'm just not so into it that I watch the perverted stuff or go into seizures if I miss a single episode or book. I just play puzzle and tie the loose ends myself.

I try to find obscure, so japanese anime it would make a racist explode with rage. I like some of the stufff that is a part of my youth (even sailor moon has a soft spot in my heart) but now, if I can see a thousand cosplayers of the anime within one second of standing in the convention hall, I am almost guaranteed to hate it unless I found it long before the popularity shot up like a junkie after a good trip to the pawnshop.

I go with both. It really depends on the series. Some series are just better as a manga (One Piece, Ichigo 100%, Genshiken). Even so there are tons of kickass anime out there (Gurren Lagann (which is literally the best thing conceived by mankind), Zetsubou Sensei, Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, FLCL etc.) So in conclusion those who say anime is bad just aren't watching the right shows.

No, Naruto, Bleach and the 4Kids dub of One Piece do not count.

I used to be a huge anime fan. Not so much anymore. I've never been able to get into manga.

I voted no, although I'm not entirely anti-manga/anime (unlike my graphics teacher). I like it if it's drawn well, i.e. not the stuff you always see on the DeviantArt homepage and I also hate the fact it's become associated with teenage emo girls (in my area at least). I'd enjoy a manga if it strayed from the same old beautiful-male-with-big-sword-and-spikey-hair and instead was maybe set like a 1970s cop drama, completely realistic.

I think what I'm saying is I want a manga of Hotel Dusk.
