Sadly, I think you're right. I've never seen an anime forum with a decent level of discussion. There is a lot to discuss, but the medium rarely seems to move beyond mere fandom into a more critical appreciation of the subject.Gormourn said:

You'd actually be fairly surprised. Yes, there'd be a fair share of "Which is better Naruto or Bleach" threads, but then again, there's a fair number of "which is better Half-Life 2 or Halo" esque threads in Gaming Discussion, so that's not really a fair argument to rule it out. Being sick of anime threads in off topic isn't a good enough reason to create a brand newghetto (heh) forum for them. If anime threads are getting tedious for the locals it's better to simply ban or rather just discourage anime discussion. Since this is a message board for video games, it's hardly unfair.
The Escapist loses none of its purpose by not catering explicitly to fans of Japanese cartoons. If you want to talk about anime then go to somewhere like AnimeSuki. I like anime but I'm more than happy to keep it out of here, in fact, I'd prefer a moratorium on anime discussion over open acceptance.
We could look at it from another perspective. If we add an anime forum, how long will it be before we have to start adding forums for other miscellaneous or minority interests? We have to draw the line somewhere, so it should be right at the start. If not, we'll turn into IGN.
I would use it, but I don't want one, if that makes sense.

That's true, we don't want it going the way of Genre Wars, where it was massive for the first week before dieing out. Also if the "yes, every day" option is the most important, the fact that that one has the least votes so far does seem problematic.xitel said:

The point isn't that people want to get rid of anime threads, it's that the anime fans would like a) a separate forum so that the anime stuff doesn't get bogged down under all the other off-topic threads like "what is your favorite type of cookie" or other such things, and b) to allow a forum dedicated solely to the topic so that the responses in them are more in depth than just the casual "I luv Naruto lolz" stuff. Also, the Escapist has already started to support the anime base on the site (which is actually a substantial number, judging by the poll) by means of a dedicated series of anime reviews and the likeILPPendant said:

It might be worth adding an extra poll option. I think it's a fine idea for all the anime fans out there, but I'd never post in it. The trouble with the no, never option is that it looks too negative and detracts scores from a good idea. =]
