It might be worth adding an extra poll option. I think it's a fine idea for all the anime fans out there, but I'd never post in it. The trouble with the no, never option is that it looks too negative and detracts scores from a good idea. =]
The point is that it's not who would like one, but who would use it. I don't want to suggest an idea that would end up wasting their resources. Hence, people who would just look at it, but never post, wouldn't actually lend to it.

You'd actually be fairly surprised.
I'm not sure. Even on anime sites, I never see the kind of focused discussion that gaming receives on many forums, including this one. It seems to be treated more casually in conversation, like light discussion of a TV show the day after everyone watched it.

Sounds good to me. Its not something I'd be on all the time, but I would post. It could also encompass anime style games, I guess. Even if I did not post in it, it would be good.

Well, it was an extreme, so it was guaranteed to get the fewest votes. But I honestly was only expecting around 15 or 20 people in it at most. The fact that it's almost doubled my expectations is promising, at least in my eyes.
If you base it on the amount of votes instead of the percentages, then yeah, it does seem to have potential. And I guess if at least some use it very regularly (Even if that some is a minority), then it could be worth it. And remember, despite the hate it can get round here, anime still has a fairly strong fan base on this site, so people would like it and use it I reckon. May not be used as much as the other forums but it would still be used. Only issues coming then is "How many users is enough?" But since more than twice the amount of people whom you expected to vote for it voted for it, it does seem to stand some potential at least.

"A lot" is not an answer. Out of my long enough experience with anime fans in real life and on the internet, and even helping a friend run a (sadly crappy) anime mini forums last year, I can safely and surely say that 99% of the things you would see would exactly be VS threads or fanboys of show A arguing with fanboys of show B.

And don't go with the "maturity" card. Escapist is hardly that much mature then a good lot of forums on the internet - the moderators just do their job and we didn't have a chance to attract too many serious trolls.
Do forgive me for not being particularly loquacious, but when you've been writing a 2,000 word OP over the course of two days you tend to be a BIT burned out in the mental department.

I also didn't play the "maturity card" and I never will. As the saying in my family goes: every village has it's fair share of idiots. It's just that our idiots tend to recieve mod wrath when they do bad things.

As far as discussion points go: there's thematics, art styles, storylines, and tropes, just to throw down some basic examples. Other, more complex threads would doubtlessly emerge over time: that's what has happened in other parts of the forums without fail.

The last thing this community needs is more separation. User Reviews, Gaming Discussion, Off-topic... they'd might as well be on different websites. Each forum is different, too different and I'm sure that these differences push people away. We should be posting in all the forums, enjoying our time with everyone. There shouldn't be walls that divide a community. Making another forum encourages the anime fans (or whatever group the forum is designed for) to stick to that one forum and not bother checking out other topics.

We don't need another forum. We have too many as it is, in my opinion.

Not to mention the fact that maybe we will start wanting other forums. A forum for music, a forum for art, a forum for forum design... who knows? Then what will the community be? It'll be a collection of bubbles, smaller communities. Some might think that's a good thing... maybe smaller, more close knit communities are good. They might be, but I don't feel like we need to separate each other.

If you don't think that each forum has different communities, compare Off-topic and Gaming Discussion. You can't tell me that there are people who never post in Off-topic or people that never post in Gaming Discussion. In fact, I'm beginning to feel that are people here who don't play video games.

Besides, I don't see a need for an anime forum. What there is to be discussed about anime can be discussed in Off-topic. There hasn't been so many threads that they are proving a nuisance, in fact I've barely seen any. I think that all non-videogame discussions can stay in Off-topic for now.

Seems like the Escapist is moving away from video games, attracting a wider audience. That is interesting.

I hope I got the sarcasm through, I really do.

I'm all for the idea - if my opinion really mattered - but those two are the the main threads that will be up and run through in my experience, so perhaps a change of name if the forum is created might suffice.

No, I'm serious, all the other threads just sink to the bottom with no one really caring about the show aside from you.
Well although I'm a pretty big Bleach fan I can safely say that most of the Escapist anime community have moved on from this and are into wider spectrum of anime. And you can't keep a topic going without posts.
A new episode comes out every week, as with a new chapter. Experience from other forums that have adapted an anime forum tells that there will be people wanting to discuss what has happened in the 15 page spread or 30 minute gap (and some will go as far as to make both).

I suppose I don't know this community well enough to know if this will be a prediction or just me being negative.

To be fair, that only happens if you let it. If there's a fair number of actual anime fans posting that bring up the really interesting animes like Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, then the content of the forum will tend to match the content being put into it.
See, but the thing is (and ignoring that well, interesting doesn't necessary mean violent killings for all - because, hey, that's your tastes) that's a niche. Because there are so many different "styles" of anime out, to find someone that will willingly discuss your interest of the season. I will admit since the Escapist does have a lot of members maybe this won't be the case; but the creation of a forum will mean a creation of a Naruto or Bleach thread, and these two (the former more than the latter) will stay on top for a longer period of time. If it does disappear, then someone will create another one. Larger members doesn't necessary mean for a larger dispersion of tastes, I just believe it'll be a larger amount of people posting in the "obligatory" threads.

I did mention I wasn't against this or anything, right?

I think I'd check it every once in a while There's just one small problem here. I'm more into old-school anime like the original Gundam movies, Rose of Versaille, Galaxy Express 999 and the likes. As the poster above me has just pointed out, it's pretty unlikely there will be threads about shows like that, or even if they are made will not get the amount of attention and space like Naruto and Bleach threads.
It's like making a thread about videos on the Escapist for Doomsday Arcade and There Will Be Brawl, you'll be flooded in Yahtzee fan posts.

Oh wait, there is one recent show I follow: Hajime no Ippo New Challenger.
...
Also not that big, huh?
Okay...

Hey, you know... craaaazy idea... Maybe, just maybe... you could put an Anime Forum here, and people who dislike anime could just, like, not go there. Y'know?

And the people who like Anime would have their own place where they talk about what they like, about subs, and subs and new shows. Without bothering those who don't want to read about it...

So yeah, i would love to see a Anime section for the Forum. People who don't like it can just post on pretty much everywhere else.

It really isn't a huge inconvenience for the admins and I'm sure some people would post on it rather regularly...

So I'm all for it.

I'd post there now and again. Not a huge anime fan but I'd check it out if I wanted something good to watch or to discuss a new episode etc.

I say an anime forum is a good idea, because I have absolutely nothing to do with it and I guess it would free up the off-topic section, even though tbh I haven't seen that many anime threads in the first place.

I'd go there. Would be nice to be able to say I liked anime without getting hit by a deluge of "Anime is for kids" or even worse "anime sucks". You know, because Western animation is for kids, and it's all the same thing.

Its been brought up before in the thread but I think one big media forum would be best.
Why not one big media forum with sub-forums, one of them being anime?

Given the very specific wording of the question, I voted no because I'm not an anime fan. At least, not currently, possibly through lack of exposure - if anyone could give me a good place to start, etc.
Depends on what you would like. Mindless action, Hellsing Ultimate OVAs. Action that is somewhat tense and has a good Plot: FMA Plot, Try Death Note and Code Geass (similar to DN but with mechs)

Um, this is a gameing website... why would there be an anime forum? There are other websigtes for that. I understand that diagram the people who like videogames and the people who like anime cross over in a large section but, that's true of other things as well, why would anime be so special? It makes no sense to me.
