Poll: Anime Forum

Um, this is a gameing website... why would there be an anime forum? There are other websigtes for that. I understand that diagram the people who like videogames and the people who like anime cross over in a large section but, that's true of other things as well, why would anime be so special? It makes no sense to me.

Then have sub-forums for other things like that

Off-topic is really vague and making a separate forum for one slice of it essentially heightens that particular group and then you have animosity between those who visit the anime forum, and those who don't. And to solve that, you would essentially have to dig out more server space for 9 or so forums to separate from off topic's main indulgence in: music, politics, recent events... Look you get the idea.

In other words, my answer is no. Yes, an anime section is literally all it takes to get rid of me.

No, I really don't like anime. However, if it got all of you guys to stop talking about it on the off-topic forum, I'd be all for it.

I think this alone would make it worthwhile. I like anime but I think it warrants a place of its own, people generally seem to come onto the off-topic to talk about real life stuff.

While we're here, you could add a film forum (after watching Drag Me To Hell I could do with some group therapy.)

What's your reasoning for it being such a bad idea? Creating one new forum (as long as it remains "one new forum") doesn't seem like a big deal, its just another place to chat like the off-topic forum. It wouldn't intrude upon the site at all, and would stop bugging people in the off-topic who'd rather have this reserved for other discussion.

I'm just curious as to what I'm missing that makes it such a catastrophe.

I'd suggest combining them into an anime and western animation forum (or shorten it to animated media forum) Some would argue that there are serious differences between them but to my eye they really aren't so different. Not enough to warrant two different forums (we do NOT want clutter in the forums.) It would even provide a framework for the old W. animation/anime argument: are they different?

I really don't see enough threads concerning anime to warrant a whole sub-forum for it. We have enough forums, if people want to discuss anime they can do it in off topic where it belongs. Plus, this is a webmag for games I thought, why would there be an anime board. Doesn't make sense, please don't do it.

You miss the point. We can already jus not click on those threads. If I see a thread that says "Gonruki's final battle element" I'm obviously just going to ignore it. So why put up a whole forum? I mean, people talk about clutter, but most of those types of threads float on the first page for a few hours, and if not necro'd just stay down. Big deal. And how would you explain away a gaming webmag having a WHOLE FORUM devoted to anime? Why cater to the few, and where does it stop after that? We have a nice, simple, uncluttered layout, which is one of the main reasons a lot of people stay here. Why not keep it that way?

Odds are they would be the same thing really. Most people who like anime tend to like manga too... I was assuming that a forum focused on anime would also have a slant towards manga too.

Doesn't User Reviews serve the same function? I mean, I posted this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.117338#2217128], and there wasn't an issue. Still, it would be nice to change the title of the section so it could envelop more material.
