That'd be great, but I'm still not sure the quality of discussion would improve if anime topics were isolated from the rest of the forum. The scope of discussion may be expanded, but that'd be it imo. And instead we'd have fan rivalry going on between threads 'Naruto sucks' etc.SecretTacoNinja said:Yes, all the time, IF the asswipes who go on Anime topics just to say;
"Anime sucks OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL"
will stay the fuck away from it.
You miss the point. We can already jus not click on those threads. If I see a thread that says "Gonruki's final battle element" I'm obviously just going to ignore it. So why put up a whole forum? I mean, people talk about clutter, but most of those types of threads float on the first page for a few hours, and if not necro'd just stay down. Big deal. And how would you explain away a gaming webmag having a WHOLE FORUM devoted to anime? Why cater to the few, and where does it stop after that? We have a nice, simple, uncluttered layout, which is one of the main reasons a lot of people stay here. Why not keep it that way?[/quote]bells said:Hey, you know... craaaazy idea... Maybe, just maybe... you could put an Anime Forum here, and people who dislike anime could just, like, not go there. Y'know?
Because there is already an "Off Topic" forum, because this is a gaming webmag site. Why aren't you satisfied with keeping anime threads in Off Topic, where they should be? Why does it need it's own forum on a gaming webmagazine site?bells said:Why not open a Section of the forum dedicated to "Movies and Animation" ? This discussion is all about Branding. And this is just silly... peopel come here not because of the "type" of forum, but because of the community. Who here thinks that the ONLY thing people around here care about is Games? There is already a section for subjects that have nothing to do with gaming... so why not open a space for people to discuss other things? Just put Movies and Animation (from any source) in the same place.
Because the Escapist has a wide audience and tends to the needs of that audience? Because the Escapist likes to expand its horizons and one day will not be just another gaming website but a website for all forms of media? What about because we want one?chronobreak said:Because there is already an "Off Topic" forum, because this is a gaming webmag site. Try the actiony animes and manga, if ur just starting. Death Note too, even though theres alot of talking.Cpt_Oblivious said:I would, but only to find out what's worth watching. I'm not really a fan, but I'm dipping my toes in to investigate.
Throwing out a bunch of cookie cutter reasons ain't gonna work. The Escapist tends to its audiences needs quite well, if you don't think they do, why are you here? We have an off topic forum where people can discuss a wide range of topics, including anime.Sevre90210 said:Because the Escapist has a wide audience and tends to the needs of that audience? chronobreak said:What I really don't get about this whole thing is this: why are you so against just putting anime discussion in off topic? What is the big deal, and where do you propose drawing the line? What other kinds of forums should we make to cater to individuals? We have a nice, simple, uncluttered forum, one that sets us apart from other forums on the net, and until someone can answer why anime discussion NEEDS its own forum, I like the Escapist the way it is.
.Sevre90210 said:What makes you think its uncluttered? There are many posters who think it is cluttered because every week in Off-Topic we get around 10 interesting threads, and the rest are "Favourite" threads and other assorted threads about music/movies/TV/anime and modern life. My idea was to create a Media forum which would take the music/movies/TV/Anime threads away from Off-Topic making it less repititive.
If I can't get a Media forum, I'd still support an Anime one because it would give the moderate population of anime fans a place to go and other Escapists an easy way to dive into the world of anime. This isn't about what Anime NEEDS, its about what Off-Topic NEEDS and what the users want. Off-Topic needs to be less cluttered, users want to see an anime only forum to discuss anime or to take anime away from Off-Topic.
The Escapist is always changing, you may not have noticed, but we now have a WarCry corner, we've lost old video series and we've gotten new ones. Some people didn't want these changes to take place, what makes you any different to one of them or any more significant?
It was quite easy to figure out you are quite conservative, unfortunately I'm quite liberal so we're going to be at this for a while.chronobreak said:I still don't see it as a need. Topics get repeated, suck it up and deal with it. You think if you have a media forum topics aren't gonna get repeated? You're not gonna see "What's your favorite show?" over and over again? Because you are. And I see a lot more than 10 interesting threads in Off Topic in a week. What I'm saying is media falls under the Off Topic section, there is no pressing need to change a thing. The site is running fine, we get a ton of new users, and I'm not gonna slap people in the face that have been here for a while, even longer than me, by changing the layout when they don't want to. If we could unanimolusly agree as a community, it would be one thing.
As you can probably figure, I'm very conservative, and I like the Escapist how it is, or else I wouldn't be here. As far as Warcry goes, I don't exactly know what it is, so I can't comment much, but was it created under the same circumstances? Was that needed to "unclutter" the forums, or was it a seperate feature Escapist tried to put in?
And, I still have to argue slippery slope and fairness here. If you can have your media section, can I have a sports forum to post in? Can I have a fashion forum? Travel? Why do you even need the Off Topic forum, why not just break everything into a category? Now, I know it's not that extreme, but we can either keep things the way they are, or get bogged down in semantics of other fans of other things wanting their own forums. This is why I'm saying it's easier and less time consuming to keep things the way they are now.
I've been on here a few times today, and I haven't noticed a single anime thread on the first page of Off Topic, by the way. This would also convince me there's no pressing need for an anime forum, as there isn't sufficient proff one would be used enough to warrant making one.
Fair enough. I mean, I'm not going to leave the site or anything if an Anime forum went up, I happen to like Big O, BeBop, FLCL, and that stuff. As far as flaming goes, I bet people would just go into the anime forum to flame, not to mention the flaming among fans that's going to happen on any type of forum.Sevre90210 said:Anyway, if you want a sports forum or a fashion or whatever you can request it and if enough people agree, maybe you'll get something like this. I haven't noticed a single thread in sports,fashion or travel today? Maybe its because fans of this will know they'll get flamed if they post by people saying "ZOMG,PLAY FiFA 10!" just like anime posters would get flamed by people saying "ZOMG, T3HYR3 C4rt00ns! LOL!". As you can see from the poll the amount of people who would use such a forum is quite sufficient and I'm sure plenty more people will be able to discover the world of anime through this. I doubt other fans would ask for more forums, perhaps a music forum? Maybe if we made a media forum that could be sorted out. I'm sure if the Escapist had the audience for sports,fashion,travel these forums would be made but I have never seen a fashion or a travel thread in Off Topic and its rare to see a sports one. I suppose it isn't my choice or yours to choose whether a new forum should be implemented though, so we'll leave this to the site admins.
I might do this. Thanks for the idea.3.141592654 said:I fully support this.Lord Krunk said:I'm still waiting for a 'User Essays/Projects' Forum, so this Anime one will have to wait in line.
Now that this thread has been un-stickied, perhaps you should make a thread about it (if you haven't already done so).
