Just so you guys know, I started a Anime User Group :) Feel free to join up and start the chatting!
How do you chat?
I joined a group, what do I do after that?
Just go to the "chat tab" and begin typing. :)
Thank you, I see the box now.
For some reason it was covered by the banners on the right side before.

I don't think it's a good idea. This is probably influenced by the fact I really don't like anime, but you'd also just get people rather like this...
Dr.Sean said:
Anime is shit. The storylines are shitty, its fans are perverts who are too socially awkward to engage with woman/men, voice acting is terrible, its derivative, and weaboos deserve the highest level of social banishment (only lower than furries) for being fucking pathetic. Trash your cosplay, shave, and get a fucking job.
... swarming all over it. Seriously, it's an opinion on a cartoon, that's like telling a fan of Tom & Jerry to go hit themselves with an anvil if they like it so much. Not to mention there are people who're like 10 that watch anime. I'm not sure how they'd get jobs and I'd be worried if they needed to shave.

But I suppose it'd shift the anime threads out of Off-Topic... point is, I wouldn't use it but I'm not against it.

No, no, this needs to stop. The last thing this site needs are a bunch of weirdos who go around shouting "Desu!" (or whatever it is they shout) at people.

Even though I don't post here much (Still learning the ropes on this site) I probably wouldn't use it alot. Not that I don't like anime, its just I only really really like one series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

People on this site aren't like that, and if we did have people like that they'd be banned or at least suspended (I think someone made a "desu" thread and got banned for it). It would be for intelligent anime discussion with tight regulation against annoying weeaboos or militant anime haters like Dr.Sean above or the lesser but still annoying ones we see a good bit.

I'd like to think of an anime forum turning out like that, as an intelligent(ish) place like Gaming Discussion. It would probably be treated with as much respect and user regulation as any other forums really on this site. People will always troll or plant threads with little discussion, regardless of what forum it's in (Coincidentally, the person who made the desu thread is still here, but she was either put on probation for it or suspended for it, I can't remember which). If one does appear, I suspect (Hope I think is a better word, not sure) that it will become treated like any other forum here, with standards, rules and regulations, as the same people who would go on the Anime forum would probably go on the other forums as well.

I think an Anime forum is a good idea, and I would go on the other threads, since the Off-Topic Discussion is the most ammusing, fun, and interusting to post in. I'd get tired of stupid anime questions and theories very quickly.

I know I'm going to sound like a horrible fangirl here, but anime forum please!!?? It's a good idea cause it keeps off-topic and anime separate, and it'll be easier to keep out the riff-raff like Dr. Sean.

Fair enough then.

I think with the amount of flaming going on in this thread, the answer is a resounding no.

Honestly, I don't see such a forum ending well. I understand that the Escapist is trying to expand its horizons, but making something for non-gamers? As narrow-minded as that sounds, that's what the escapist has always been about, right down to the first issue. The people involved with video games, with the common analysis of an actual title. Though there are a lot of gamer/anime fans, there is often animosity between more "gaming-centric" people and the ootaku. (see the above posts)
That may divide the community, like the rift between the Escapist and Warcry.

Hrm...
Well, why not start an altogether seperate site-type thing for anime fans? Just plant the seeds, hire the people, and mentor the publishers. Themis could prolly pull it off: an anime site with the practicality and organization found on its other offshoots.

Well, now there is the Anime user group that people can chat in, I'm not a huge fan myself but I've been in there, and they've been nothing but help. I think it works well, at least for avoiding flaming and such. If it were a subforum, there would be a lot of that.

Doesn't matter, we still got a user group now.

You hear that people? We've got one now, there's point in flaming or even posting because we got what we wanted.

Why not just an anime section of the forums here though? The user group is a good start, but if we were to go further then I don't think it would be a terrible idea to stick an anime section on the site itself with posts that don't show up on the front page, it doesn't give trolls a chance to flame unless they actually delve into the section itself.

They already have anime reviews, why not a section? No need to go as far as creating a separate forum like WarCry, which just creates more problems than it solves.

You can tell all the animé haters on this thread have never actually met an animé fan. Or at least a sane one. We do have social lives, we don't run around shouting "DESU!", and we are perfectly capable of getting jobs. Seriously, these people need to grow up and be less closed minded. >.>

Where would you suggest putting the section though, if you don't want it on the forum page like WarCry is? And are you sure a user group isn't enough, you don't want to be getting greedy now right!
