I like it but I don't love it meaning that thinking it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and 1 reason why some people don't like it is because it's over-sexualized

My problem with Japanime is that 95% of it falls somewhere between Bizarre Jelly 5 and Princess Robot Bubblegum.

Also; why do Japanese cartoons get their own special name, but cartoons from other countries don't?

so then the 5% is split 3% that are from shouen jump which are mostly over-rated and drag on leaving the other 2% to actual decent shows
plus I think we call Japanese cartoons anime because we want to differ it from our American cartoons (course that's just a hunch)

Anime is one of my hobbies besides computers and Video Games. Ghost In A Shell, Eden of the East (Confusing but a must watch), Cross Game, Naruto Shippuden, Full Metal Alchemist (Both Series) , etc. I can go on for days. Had I known about anime in my High School days, I don't think I would have garduated ahahaha!

Ralph Bakshi American Pop, Fire and Ice. ever heard of them?

Nope, never. Just looked them up on youtube. Those ARE fairly realistic, maintaining proper human proportions and mostly human faces without far too much stylization.
Still, Le Chevalier ranks as fairly close to human proportions, with realistic body-head proportions, and nearly accurate facial structure (no big-eyes).

Well they should look realistic. Ralph Bakshi used rotoscoping, which is basically where animators trace over live-action film movement, frame by frame, to make a movie.

Now then, on topic. Some anime is good and some anime is bad, like all other forms of television and movies.

I know I said this before but I still think it needs to be said again.
The attitude the great majority of anime dislikers are adopting is very similar to the attitude non-gamers adopt towards gamers. How do you feel when the media destroys video games and condemns gamers?
How do you like it when someone who has no effing clue about how all games are not meant to be like Mario or fit for kids, they bust into you when you're playing God Of War and goes raving like "OMG WTF are you doing? Look at all that blood and violence! YOU GAMERS OUGHTA BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!! Why in my day we had the good stuff like Pac-man and Tetris, harmless entertainment for the kids, and nowadays kids play this filthy, masturbatory material for juvenile power fantasies! By the way, why the hell are you still playing video games Jimmy? You're 18, you're supposed to have outgrown this stuff by now! Come with me and let's watch the newest episode of Gossip Girl instead of you wasting your time with this thrash..."

You can dislike anime as a matter of taste, but for the sake of all that is good in this world don't adopt the same truly uninformed, snotty and biased attitude non-gamers hold against us.
Also, animation is not only a kid's or a masochist's medium. In Japan, animation is the equivalent of live action series in America, and yeah, Japanese live action TV doesn't compare to American live action TV...

No, I can't see the analogy here. I'm saying that I don't like anime because the vast majority of it is a pointless, masturbatory exercise in gratuitous sex and violence (and often sexual violence) that is not redeemed with good writing or production values. I don't think this is in any way comparable to someone saying that there is an explicit sex scene in Mass Effect that you get if you gorily dismember enough authority figures.

I enjoy video games, but I don't do so uncritically. Saying that violent video games don't have any psychological effects on people (not just children) is just as selective, ignorant and ridiculous as saying that video games have a causal effect that turns children into murderers, and when your parents tell you that you should spend less time playing video games, they're probably right.

Anime is like any media...you have to sift through a ton of garbage(stuff that doesn't interest you) to find what you like. I don't like the majority of movies or TV shows that Western media produces, but there was some good stuff produced by it. Not every anime is a horrible degeneration into bad tropes and of the harem variety.

Anime is hit or miss for me. for every series I marginally enjoy (Trinity Blood, the original Full Metal Alchemist, etc.) there's ten that are bad and beat you over the head with their annoyances.

Have been mostly indifferent about the whole style.

Had some friends in High School that would always try to get me to watch anime with them or give me anime to watch. Tried to... but so much of it is just really convoluted stories and uninteresting characters, annoying voices, strange 'hilarious' jokes and humor that I still just don't understand...

Though some things like Cowboy Bebop, the Animatrix and Batman: Gotham Knight have kept me from dismissing anime as a whole

I like most harem animes, (love hina, airiantou) and some action oriented animes, (Hellsing, FMA) I also like some animes where they try something original, (Death note, notebook that kills people, Midori Days, Street Brawlers hand is replaced with doll-sized version of girl with a cruch on him) Still, there is some animes I cant really get into.

They're all pretty much the same bad thing. With very few exceptions.
Crazy hair, androgynous males, girls that are 'super hawt' and... 12... ugh, in fact in most animes, everyone's like 13, and saving the world!

Well you gotta start savin' the world now, or else by the time you hit 15 or 16 you'll be too old.

I didn't like Lain myself. Reading my comment above you'd think it be one of my favorite shows ever but it just never went anywhere for me. It seemed like it was wierd just for the sake of wierd.

Really I thought everything fit together quite well with a couple watches anyway and all of the wierd stuff had a purpose in the end but u know just my opinion...

yeah i noticed yor avatar... i actually saw Eva 1.01 and 2.0 at the glasgow film festival a while ago... they are quite good.. but so fucking different from the original Eva, especially on a conceptual level. Shinji is actually likeable now
