Bizzare jelly was the kind of anime that was meant to weird you out.
I believe it could also be used as a torture method against people who like fox news.
I also believe it has...
I think the bubblegum one is just bull tho (If you can prove me wrong go ahead)
Anime is really, really terrible. I have seen a lot of anime, and the vast majority of what I have seen have been nothing more than masturbatory exercises in gratuitous sex and violence made even worse by a budget that necessitates really high collars obscuring people's mouths when they're talking so that they don't need to animate it.
The worst thing is the "anime joke." You know ? it's when a male character says something lecherous and a female character responds by physically assaulting him and screaming something, usually extending the pronunciation of the last syllable. I dunno, maybe this is hilarious in a culture where the overriding concern is to not stand out or do anything that indicates that you are not completely committed to the status quo.
You know what else is terrible? Dessert. I have tasted many desserts I don't like therefore all desserts in general must suck.
You know what else sucks? Vegetables. I don't like brussel sprouts or onions so all vegetables must suck.
I also concur with your well-put opinions on anime. I saw some I didn't like so the whole genre must suck, right?
I like SOME anime. I love Miyazaki. I love almost anything that Studio Ghibli comes out with, especially 'Grave of the Fireflies' which is the only movie to make me sob like a baby.
Oh god... that movie is some good emotional roller coaster.
OT: I enjoy Anime because, in general, cartoons from Japan and other asian countries tend to be better written, animated, dubbed (or subbed; i prefer subbed) than any of the garbage coming out of America lately. Hell, I barely let my girls watch tv now, because the cartoons are just wastes of airtime. I bought them the Miyazaki dvd's (just have a few more to go in that collection), as well as old school cartoons from the 80's, stuff I grew up on. It's far better than Barney or /shudder... Fan Boy and Chum Chum.

I REALLY REALLY HATE the whole claim that "Japanese are the kings of animation" when you see alot of it that looks like this

Its the low framerate universal dubbing technique where the mouth just widens and collapses until the dialogue has been done. Very lazy.
One of my favourite Anime's was Akira and mostly because of the facial movements when anyone spoke. Granted alot of the time it wouldnt match up but at least the characters didnt look like mindless automatons. The problem for me is that its over saturating itself with badly rendered work. I really LOVE Animation and voiceover work in such a field but anime has to work VERY hard to impress me anymore now.
Far toooooooooo much falls into anime cliche now and embrace it. Example being the "Hero and villain rush at eachother, screen does explosion effect and hero and villain are motionless facing away from eachother.....villain slowly falls to the ground beaten", Boring and even some of my favourite do it but because its so overdone my eyes roll out of my skull. Plenty more is similar.
I prefer to read the Manga to most of the stuff I watch anyway.
Metropolis was excellent in story telling (Partly as its from another source) and the animation was in fact brilliant. Very little frame rate loss due to lazy animation. Reason its dominating is NOT to do with the notion EVERYONE WANTS TO SEE CUTE ANIME!!!!!!!11! but more to do with the fact that theres very little call for Animation from Western countries unless its more adult orientated and obvious about itself being that.
p.s I do love the "Show a busy market by having talking noises dubbed over a completely STILL image with people frozen in position" technique. My favourites are evil for it too.
p.s 2! You want a comparison. Watch the Japanese Transformers and then the American version from the same era. The former is pretty bad when with again the same issues mentioned as well as a lack of tension and pacing (Music helps).
p.s 3! Had a message saying I should open up and watch more. This is what I have watched from memory.
Hokuto No Ken
Hand Maid May
Metal Angel Marie
Ghost In The Shell
Akira
Trigun
Chobits
Metropolis
Final Fantasy 7(Awful)
Cowboy Beebop
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Tales From Earth Sea
Howls Moving Castle
Deadspace Downfall (Worse than normal framerate issues)
Batman Gotham Knight (Some good, Most bad)
Halo Legends (LOL! For a probably large budget this was ABYSMAL)
Fooly cooly....ahhh the fun i had with that show. But most of the anime I view, and I say this shamelessly, is hentai. As for "normal" anime, Gundam was my fucking favorite show from age 7 to present, and by gundam I mean the 0079-0081 era when it was (in my opinion) GOOD. Inuyasha was another favorite of mine.
I love it but I can say that I don't love the fans usually. We're a crazy bunch and most of the more out there people can take it a little too far. But I love it because there's always something interesting in a story and anime is mostly stories from Japan. It's just another version of a cartoon. The fact of the matter is that it's the same no matter what closed minded people think. As for my favorites I like Inuyasha, Ruroni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist, Tokyo Babylon, .hack//sign, Cardcaptor Sakura, anything by CLAMP, and I guess I'll add Excel Saga and Ultra Maniac too but I have to be in the right mood for them.
P.S. forgot Death Note, though I only read the manga it still deserves a shout out.
Anime is a hateful, hateful thing, an abomination, a pox on the face of the world, a never ending plague of the foulest, most vile, scabrous filth ever to defile creation.
That said, one or two manga's are ok and I suppose a couple of anime's (films, never series')based on them are ok, but the rest are the darkest form of evil, summoned straight from the pits of Hades etc etc.
Depends on the show, really. Death Note was one of the most gripping things I've watched in years, but I can't stand Dragonball Z or harem animes, that sort of thing. Serial Experiments Lain, Death Note, and Haibane Renmei I could watch over and over, mind.
The way I see it, it's no inherently better or worse than any other form of entertainment, and as such obeys Sturgeon's law ("Ninety percent of everything is crud") to the letter. I can appreciate the good shows out there, like Death Note, FMA and the like, and even understand the people out there who don't really "get" the aesthetics or wathever.
The people who pretend there's some kind of hidden meaning behind it and meet any kind of criticism with "you don't get it" get on my nerves though. It's just cartoons.
I am not a big anime fan, but I do love gundam (Except the Cosmic Era shows) So that is a bit of a paradox.
I watched all Gundam Series (Except G Saviour and the 2nd half of V gundam, need to fix that) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Harui s1 + s2. The rest does not interest me at all.
