You must admit though, it's not entirely undeserved.

I think he's referring to Avatar.

OT: Kinda, but I don't feel as if it's in everything. I'm still thankful that we're pulling out of the WW2 phase for FPSs.

The thing is, if you want it to be believable-ish then you're limited to a few countries. Most countries aren't really that hostile, whereas the likes of America, Russia, Germany, Afghanistan, etc. maintain that image (rightly or wrongly).

You couldn't have a game where you're defending Switzerland from an Australian invasion and try to sell it seriously.
district 9, avatar, that sort of thing.
Are there no blacks/asians/hispanics in Avatar?

As for District 9, there are plenty of black guys in the military force bit and the gang he goes to buy weapons off are black and try to eat his arm. AND the protagonist is white anyway.

You seem to have a rather narrow view. Given that the majority of roles are occupied by white actors it makes sense that there's more chance they're going to occupy the role of the villain, protagonist and plenty in between.

I know Russia and the US are still not that close, but come on, I'm sick of seeing Russians as bad guys in almost every spy thriller that's out and I'm even sicker of killing millions of them in FPS and RTS games. Dude the cold war has been over for about 2 decades now
I'm more amaze that every games now has Russians as the "fake enemies" and American as the true evil. I'm also dumbfounded by the sell chart of those game in the us. As a Canadian, i don't really like the USA (alto i judge the inhabitant only when i meet them which most of them don't hence), so it's always fun to blow uncle Sam with a missile launcher.

I'm sick of the whole terrorist concept in either game or movies. These days they're either Russian or Arabian and they all hate democracy and USA, and they all speak broken English to each other, because that's the only language they know! The relationship between Russia and USA is fine, they wont split the bill after pizza, but they don't need to pass messages through their kids.

Wow that would be awesome and i would join u on the development team
Shame i'm working on a Indie oblivion style RPG at the moment
well im only a junior in high school so i wouldnt be much help but good luck with your game

Cheers, still got lots of work to do we have the 3D engine but still haven't finished defining what our polygon budgets are going to be, frustum culling helps and is easy enough to do but wide open RPG vistas are not commonly made in XNA
What`s the game going 2 be called?

At the moment it's Project Carbon Dungeon, but that isn't likely to be the actual name
well im interested in your game so if you change the name i hope i can find it
Well nothing concrete will happen for a long time the team is only 12 people doing it in their spare time, Two of them work for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and so don't have much free time.

Art design hasn't even been touched on yet, I've sorted most of the combat mechanics and now we're spending most of the time on Story as a group since RPG's focus heavily on that area.

Yes, more games need to take the Tom Clancy rout of making Mexicans the enemy

I don't understand why so many parts of media have suddenly gone anti-Russian lately. I suppose it has to do with Cold War tensions, but that makes no sense because just recently the U.S. and Russia singed a new peace treaty, so there's no tension now whatsoever. It would actually make more sense to have more Chinese villains since right now they're the biggest threat to the U.S. economically.

Yes I am sick of seeing Russians as the main antagonist of literally every shooter that comes out nowadays.

I don't even understand why we still consider the Russians bad guys. Great, they tried a new political system and had a few crappy leaders; that doesn't make them evil.

If Russians don't want to be villains somebody should tell them to be less evil. Seriously, Reagan pointed out the whole Axis of Evil thing years ago. Just stop being so dang evil and you can be a hero for once.

In one of the Call of Duty games didn't you play as a heroic Russian soldier fighting Germans? I guess the only people in the world more evil than Russians are Germans. So, if Russians want to be seen as good guys again I recommend an immediate invasion of Germany. Go for it guys, they've gone all soft and hippy in the last twenty years so you should be able to march through in a month.

i admit it would be interesting to see this (FYI video game deighners this is free idea to whoever gets it) how about a game where the bad guy is someone we were allies with say the british or the germans...it would be a modern day shooter starting with the invasian of america by someone we trusted por heck how about the soldiers were already in america as secret civilians and then on a given day they dusted off their AK's and took over in about ten minuites.

Yes, but not because of the fact that they're Russian, but because of the fact that often it just doesn't make any goddamn sense.

As Movie Bob said in his review of Salt; it isn't the Cold War nowadays! Sure, Russia these days isn't the friendliest place to live in, but they're not trying to take over the world or something. There's barely any reason for them to be the main bad guys.

Now in CoD: MW1 and 2 it made at least a bit of sense why Russia did what they did in those games. Flame away on the plot of those games all you want, but at least it had that. But why did they want to conquer the world in Bad Company 2? Why does Russia all of a sudden want to assassinate the American president in Salt? It just makes little sense.

If you really want a creative, power-hungry main bad guy, go for Italy or something. Berlusconi is a lot more insane than Putin.

Amazingly, even despite being Russian myself, i don't mind it ALL that much. It's annoying, sure, but not too awful. There might be two reasons:

A) I actually see OUR nationalism, and it's even worse than Americans', and
B) Russian enemies are associated with Soviet Union most of the time, and i hate USSR with a passion.

I want to see a game where USA and Russia team up to kick China's ass, then go into space. Where they begin to fight an empire of Evil Space Elves with the help of bug-aliens, space squids, and such.
Well in operation flashpoint 2 dragon rising America and Russia team up on China

Homefront may be refreshing then. The enemies are the North Koreans, and the fighting takes place in America (No, not like MW2 where everything looks fine but the capitol, I'm talking everything stripped to the simplicities, and duct tape sights)!
