I love the gym. I like to build a little bulk here and there, it helps keep he happy and alert

It is but it's a lot of fun and you feel great after.Sacman said:I've never tried yoga before... I hear it's quite hard to hold a lot of the positions for a long time...
Maybe I'll try it after my shoulder get's better... It may help with that too...Julianking93 said:It is but it's a lot of fun and you feel great after.Sacman said:I've never tried yoga before... I hear it's quite hard to hold a lot of the positions for a long time...
Kinda like getting a massage when you walk out, especially when you try hot yoga (Power yoga done in a 100+ degree F room)![]()
As much as it may not seem like it, yoga helps strengthen the muscles as well as heal them. It's odd how it works. Must be an awesome chi flow >.<Sacman said:Maybe I'll try it after my shoulder get's better... Well that sounds good... but I just don't want to take any chances right now... it's been constantly moving in and out of socket for the last two months and it's gotten really bruised and disgusting looking around where I hurt it as of late... I really need to go see the doctor again...Julianking93 said:As much as it may not seem like it, yoga helps strengthen the muscles as well as heal them. It's odd how it works. All of what this guy says are valid points which you want to keep an eye out for. But you have to remember that eating and sleeping routines are far more important to your physical development than what you'll do at the gym, i.e. 20% is in how you train. 50% is in what and when you eat. 30% is the rest you take. (Disclaiming right here that it's an indication, not an exact science.)thiosk said:I couldn't get up steps without huffin' and puffin, so I started in.

To SonofaJohannes: You know you can adjust the weights, right? =/SonofaJohannes said:I wouldn't call it exercise, but I take a walk every day, and that's usually enough to keep me in shape. I've been to the gym a few times in my life, but I didn't like it. Too many scary looking machines that tried to rip off my arms.

Well I've gone twice and they told me just to let it heal... but perhaps there were some unforeseen complications... yeah I better schedule an appointment...<.<Julianking93 said:Dear god, man that sounds bad O.OSacman said:Well that sounds good... but I just don't want to take any chances right now... it's been constantly moving in and out of socket for the last two months and it's gotten really bruised and disgusting looking around where I hurt it as of late... Go to a doctor soon and have that checked out! Hope everything's alright :s
I completely agree with that. They are quite icky. Lean and a little muscled is more attractive and I think it is also more practical.thiosk said:I know iron man super strength guys don't do cardio, but they look gross, as well.
This is mostly what I was going to say, but I disagree that doing 100% or 100% cardio is a mistake. I do all weight-lifting and weight-training every other day and do the full cardio on the days inbetween and I'm getting pretty good results from that. If you don't let your muscles recover and build new muscle, then you're working out with diminishing returns. You need to let the muscles rest so they can reinforce the area with new muscle and so that you can have the strength to finish the next workout.thiosk said:I couldn't get up steps without huffin' and puffin, so I started in.
Some suggestions: Find a good lookin personal trainer, and sign up for a couple sessions. If its your first time in the gym, you do NOT know what to do. If you imitate-- you won't be doing the motions properly, you won't make the kind of progress you want, and your interest will fizzle and fade.
Motivation for me was 100% seeing results. I worked with a trainer once a week, and by the end of two months I had put on a lot of nice muscle here and there and dropped over 15 pounds, without heavy diet modification. This is after a full year of going to the gym and knocking weights around like a moron. Cut out the intensive carbohydrate loading and use low calorie protein shakes to curb hunger and assist in the development of lean muscle.
Finally, 5 days a week: 30 min muscle group \ 30 min cardio three days a week, and full hour cardio on the off days. Do legs on the last day before the two day rest.
For full cardio days, i recommend doing a spin class or something of that nature-- just pushing along on a treadmill or elliptical like all the other dummies will not assist in keeping yourself motivated. Spin is serious business.
One of the top mistakes people make is to go in and do either 100% muscle or 100% cardio. For building lean muscle and looking better, you want some of both. I know iron man super strength guys don't do cardio, but they look gross, as well.
You're probably just prone to reinjury. I have a similar problem with my knee. I can barely play tennis anymore (pivoting is hazardous) but running is fine. My knee came out of joint once on a hiking trip near the top of the mountain. Coming down was a slow, scary, and painful process.Sacman said:Well I've gone twice and they told me just to let it heal... but perhaps there were some unforeseen complications... yeah I better schedule an appointment...<.<Julianking93 said:Dear god, man that sounds bad O.OSacman said:Well that sounds good... but I just don't want to take any chances right now... it's been constantly moving in and out of socket for the last two months and it's gotten really bruised and disgusting looking around where I hurt it as of late... Burn excess energy and frustration. More important to stretch my muscles. I hate the feeling I'm atrophying (I couldn't walk for about 9 months at one point. HATED it.)Glass Joe the Champ said:Hey guys, today was my first day going to the gym. I got a free trial somewhere and decided to get in shape and whatnot. I was just wondering if anyone here works out, and if you do, what's your motivation for exercising?
