Whatever, just wash your hands.
I dont like apple at all, they tend to have really closed systems and I dont want any of that crap on my pc at all, if someone gave me an ipad I wouldnt use it since it wants you to install itunes crap on my comp

wow, Im reading the story now and this seems to be what happens when you work in a closed system, I hope this knocks apple down a few pegs, they are too big for their britches

I can guarantee it is, I helped build it. its very easy to get parts and material when your friend's father works in tech and at a warehouse where parts can go missing rather easily. besides, he's more then well off, and builds his own parts as well. I know he built my PS3 for me, and thats got 2 Tbs inside (though its in a completely different case, and holds more then the average PS3).

As to a picture of it, I cant. Mainly cause a lot of the parts arent really patent, and right now my friend is in the process of it. so I made him a solemn promise I couldnt show or tell (otherwise his patent can be compromised.

though I'd love to know what gives you the right to say what I can and cant do when you are just a matainence man. Not to be rude, or say you're less of a person for it, but you hardly know me and what I can do.
You don't know what you are talking about, so i call bullshit.

Fine you don't want to reveal your rigs hardware (buulllllshiiit) so just show us a screenshot of your taskmanager under performance. You do not have 3 TB of RAM m8.

I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a teaspoon than call Apple my friend. The way they prey on the non-technical people is morally wrong in my eyes, as their factory conditions. Their marketing is largely lies, their products over-priced and under-powered. The way the fans become so utterly religious like in the video completely disgusts me. Where it not for Apple being a big buisness it would be classed as a cult.

Plus all iPods have been out-classed in value for money since their original release. iTunes is a horrificlly bloated piece of software aswell.

I wouldn't even buy Apple products if I had the money. There are plenty of alternatives to iPhones and iPads and MacBooks that are much cheaper and better.

In short, I hate Apple. /rant

All I know is, he asked me not ot photograph it. My laptop is about the size of a suitcase (not a large one, about 1.85 ft by .85 ft. by roughly 2 ft.), and so far as I know, he just slapped together a bunch of Ram. Its been his technique for it for as long as I know he did say that he connected at least three different rams together for it (that were brand name). though most of his self made parts are in his comp (which is a tower thats about a 3x3x3 cube [and he painted to look like a companion cube, which I always though was insanely funny].) the Only custom part of his I have is the chip to produce images (cant think of the name at the moment).

I just honestly dont want to take apart my laptop. its a ***** to put back together, and is hoenstly easier to just build fromt he ground up again instead of taking it apart. And right now, I'm not in a position to take it apart. I'm fading in and out of the escapist amongst Macro econ business college work thats due at the end of the month is going to accumulate to a third of my summer term work.
Then I suggest your friend sell the method of his work to the state, because they'll be willing to pay a shit ton for what he can supposedly make. You'd have to be a fool to hold that kind of know how and not capitalise from it. Hence why I'm failing to believe.

Personally I'm foe.

Firstly for things like this:http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2011/may/21/apple-upgrades-itunes-version (thanks to Tigermilk for bringing it to my attention)

And secondly for this... event... What the actual fuck?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13416272

I personally prefer customising my own PC and using Windows, which for me is far cheaper than buying the latest ultra-thin, shiny bit of iWank whenever Steve Jobs claps his hands. (I've used Macs at uni to do video editing and I'm not a fan, so I'm not just slagging them off for the sake of it).

Also, just to reiterate about that bbc vid above... WHAT!?

Anywho, discuss.

EDIT: Poll doesn't seem to have loaded, nevermind
Neither. They are a company that makes computers and software and whatever. Buy it if you like it, don't if you don't. As for Apple fans being similar to a religion or whatever I guess Apple has good advertising. Or maybe the news saw the contreversial drama in one study and decided to report on it for the sake of readers. Ya know that thing news has been doing forever.

Do we really need more threads about Apple?

I've always hated apple (due to being a heavy PC gamer and just not being able to use Mac OSX) and it's nice when I get to tell an apple fan a story like this to remind how terrible their favourite brand really is. I'm so smug right now, apple fans, and you can't do shit to stop me from being so.

FOE? their commercals tell blantant lies. And the fanbos tend to lie a lot. Your hardware is in no way ten years ahead.in fact i'd say its laging a bit behind. The ipods and phone were great but the ipad litteraly has no advantages over an iphone exept it's heavy and wont make calls.

I hate their products, so foe I guess.

I really just wanted to comment on the 3TB of RAM guy, that's probably one of the funniest things I've ever read on the internet. Looking forward to confirmation of this time-travelling computer or the poster's trolling :)

He's waiting to finish his degree to make it "More official looking". that and to get the patent process finished (which he started about a week ago). cant really sell without a patent.

I really hate Apple as a company, but I like the Mac OS better than Windows. Basically that.

But I'm at peace of mind, because Microsoft isn't that much better a company than Apple. They're both terrible, and the computing world just needs to branch away from these two giants. The sooner we can figure out how to get a wide variety of different OSs under different projects and companies, the better.

Too many operating systems would be bad since there would be compatibility issues. I do agree with you on branching off of the giants, more linux support would be nice.

Thats pretty hilarious. Won't post tech specs or a picture because someone will reverse engineer the picture and steal the technology right out of it.
True story: This is how I made my PS3.
You looked at a picture of completely new unpatented technology unlike anything before and copied it all?

Theres a difference between the readily available hardware list inside of a PS3 and this magic RAM he has access to that doesn't exist elsewhere.
Oh you misunderstand. I looked at the outside of the PS3, saw it boot up, and immediately knew how to make it.

I ended up fabricating it largely out of parts from scuttled kitchen appliances.

And of course I'm also lying.

I know basically nothing about computers, but would it not be possible to just have a bunch of basic, standard cross-platform programs? Kinda like Java, but more streamlined?
I'm sure there's some way it could happen, and I think something like that's the only thing that could really break the Microsoft-Apple diopoly.

I'd say foe, but not based on the devices themselves more just on the way they do business.

Also I'm a bit of a 'tech hippie' in that I enjoy a more open source environment than a closed off one. I use both a windows based PC and a MacBook Pro on a regular basis. As a video editor I don't really have a choice in the matter so I put up with Mac more than enjoy using it.

What annoys me more is that (specifically in the video industry) everyone is obsessed with using Macs and doesn't consider other options. It annoys me that I have to avoid telling clients that I use a PC for the majority of my editing work because they see it as a 'lesser platform'. This is despite the fact that currently the Adobe Creative Suite is kicking the crap out of Apple's own video editing platform.

It just bothers me that people see them as faultless. I had another guy I worked with buy a really nice MacPro (tower) setup recently and It was very impressive. However he told me it was so stable it couldn't crash and despite costing $3,000AUD more was better than my PC with nearly identical stats. I laughed and crashed it for him :)

I just wish there was less of the 'cult' attitude with the apple platforms and people would just see them as what they are; a very limited but ultimately stable and simple to understand (unless you're a tech head) computer with some stylish looks.
