Sorry I forgot to answer. I prefer the $50 dollar price.

I typically buy new games on sale, but if for some reason I absolutely need to get one right away, $50 is my absolute maximum cut-off point. Fortunately there are very few PC titles that ever try to retail for more than that.

I'm a PC guy, so no more then 49.99

And even then I buy my games USUALLY when they are on sale, some exceptions I bought Mass Effect 2, full price.

When I bought L4D2 Steam has a "Save 10% if you pre order" so I saved $5 with that.

60 of your American dollars isn't a rip off compared to us Aussies. For new release games we're paying $99 US. For Modern Warfare 2, any moron that went into EB Games and bought it at launch would've been paying just under $110 US.

I don't even like the $50 price tag on games, 95% of the games I buy are a year or two old and the price is usually down to $20-$30

hmm, the poll stats show a classic bell curve, where the most votes goes to the middle, or average
What, it is interesting to me

I'm not sure if I could get gamefly here or if would pay off with shipping costs, though it is something to think about.

The problem is just two years ago games where nearly 20 to even 30 cheaper, so instead of buying two games at time (which I use to) I just buy one. And really I only buy one a quarter now, otherwise I make DLC purchases or playing oldschool roms (public domain even) for free.

So now I need to decide if I should save for God of War III ($110 special edition pre-order) or if I should use the budget for something else.

Back in the day, way back in 2007 OMG, my Halo 3 special elite edition (Helmet) cost me 68.00 with a special %10 discount on a Xbox 360 in store.
Now thats the average cost of games...including EA sports games; and many games with nothing special or unqiue.

Maybe my real question is, should EVERY game be priced the same, or should production quality be a factor.

Hmm, whoopsie I guess. Just did it on the fly based on averages. Most polls are just yes or no, or some other bell curve response, so it just kind of fell into place. My bad, my first poll, I'll do something more interesting next time. Let me try this change.

i try to get used, because most people around here are like me, and respect the games, so if there is even the slightest scratch it doesn't affect the gameplay at all, so used i get it for about 44 usually when it just came out a week or two ago, so its all good, although if i know i really really want a game, i trade in a few old games that i have beaten to a pulp and buy the new game with that

When I moved out to university I discovered (to my dismay) that games clock in at $70 here in Canada. My analysis of the pricing system goes something like this:

$50: Tough, but fair
$60: Okay, that sucks, but I'm still going to pay it
$70: Please please please stop violating me I don't have a choice
$100: No game is good enough for this

I think all games should be priced at $30. These high price tags aren't enough of an incentive to make high-quality games - developers can still get by releasing trash that only sells relatively few copies.

I buy all of my games used, even if I only save $5. That's $5 more towards the next game, I figure.

I haven't paid over $25 for a game in 3 years.

My newest game is Oblivion though so I'm kind of out of the loop on a lot of things.

no it's fine, it is an interesting look in to the collective psyche of gamers, and yes, I am taking Psychology.

it is getting to the point where games are getting too expensive again. I remember back when I had an SNES, NBA Jam was something like $80. I believe when games were changed to the easier to produce disc format the price went down but gradually it has been going back up. I suspect we may be getting close to the breaking point for game prices, but when so many people will shell out $60+ for the latest version of their favorite franchise I guess it is only to be expected for companies to price gouge the consumer.

The first poll option should be "Gladly pay over $50".

It depends on the game. These days I only pay $60 for games that will easily get over 100 hours of playtime. That basically means BioWare games and multiplayer shooters. Everything else I either don't bother with or wait until they go way, way down in price.
