i would be more afraid of living forever, if a person can i feel sorry for them, for the human soul was not meant to bare that much pain on its shoulders. death a kind of release from the world how can we value life when there is no death.

I am not when death is and death is not when I am so why should I fear something that is not when I am?

About a year ago I'd have said no without a thought. But there are days when I think of what I have at the moment and very much do care that I'm alive and don't want it taken away. Maybe saying I "fear" it is a bit much though.

Ask me when I'm dying.
Has it in one, so many people here that are saying no might see it a bit differently be they diagnosed with a terminal illness.

ITT: Tough guys.

But SRS I agree with Mark Twain (as a previous poster posted most postily) in that I didn't exist before and should not fear returning to that state.

Big part of my atheistic sense of morality is that if ever I die, now or later, I should wish to die knowing I did more good than bad, and be an example to the wayward close enough to know me. I'm bored with living, and I feel like I have lost by and large the ability to be satisfied through conventional means (sex/drugs/relationships), so I'm just giving my money/things away to loved ones, and drifting about the military's sea of mediocrity. I look forward to it, after my self-prescribed job on Earth is done.

Martyr complexes are fun.

Death is a very profound subject, it usually depends on the circumstances, when you are peaceful and healthy, the answer should always be 'no', but if you delve deeper, and think about it for longer than just 1 minute, most poeple would be afraid, do you think a soldier is afraid, of course they are, but they just dont show it, nobody likes to die, unless you are a relegious fanatic i.e Martyr or Pope, You would be afraid. I, personally am scared by Death, the follow up to it, i.e being horribly sick, and the after period, i.e nothing or Heaven or Hell. But nothing ventured is nothing gained, so there is only one way to find out the answer to it, and the seperation wouldnt be bad, if heaven is right, they will all be there, waiting for you...

I hope to die in my sleep.
While dreaming of heaven =p.
I would, if I was religious.
You don't need to be to imagine.

Ever watch "What Dreams May Come"? Basically each individual is the author of their afterlife, with the ability to network with other created 'heavens'.

That idea always stuck with me of how it should be.

Interesting a surprisingly large amount of people said no. Quite unexpected.

But for me, no I'm not afraid of dying it's simply part of nature everything and everyone dies at some point so there is no real reason to fear it. It's inescapeble. However the fear of growing older is a much more realistic fear; losing mobility, forgetting things, your looks fade away. Now those are the things most people are actually afraid of.

I dread the day when my heart will cease to beat and my corpse be turned in to the Earth.

For in the afterlife, you lose all connections you had with real life. You can't enjoy it anymore.

i just think of something my priest said at church.
"imagine that life is like the womb and death is like being born. If the baby had the choice it would remain in the warmth of the womb, but we know how much it would miss out on. People not wanting to die is like the same. We would prefer to stay alive but we don't know what we would be missing.
So kill yourselves, for that is what God wants.

But seriously, I'm terrified of dying, perhaps it's because I haven't been around long enough to want to get rid of it yet. (My life)
