This. But also, I've an English mother and a Scottish father, so British is a more accurate term for me, though I do tend to think of myself as English as well.Amnestic said:I'm English and British.
I see no issue to separate the two. It's like asking "Are you French/Germnan/Spanish/Italian or European?"
You're both.
Wow...you actually went there. Do you have any idea the hassle you can cause saying stuff like that in Northern Ireland? Also, note that NI is one of the few countries where you can pick - we can have either a BRITISH passport, an Irish passport or both. So don't tell someone what they "technically" aren't, because technically you'll find yourself looking an utter eijit.Amnestic said:Britain=Scotland, Wales, England.knight of some random number said:I'm from Northern Ireland, but I call myself Irish rather than British, due to my families status.
UK=Britain+Northern Ireland
Ireland=Northern Ireland+Ireland.
So technically, you're not BritishYou are a UK Citizen though.

op, I call myself British while living in NI, and I don't mind being referred to as Irish but I would correct someone who labelled be English.
That doesn't make much sense seeing as Scotland is part of the British IslesKukakkau said:Scottish - we don't really like being associated as British
Thank you for being one of the few people that actually understand what constitutes Britain, and what the United Kingdom contains.Amnestic said:Britain=Scotland, Wales, England.knight of some random number said:I'm from Northern Ireland, but I call myself Irish rather than British, due to my families status.

Seriously, it's immensely frustrating having to explain time and time to my friends that the UK and Great Britain arent the same.

Yes, because after 4 years learning UK politics I had /no/ idea about the definition of Great Britain. My point still stands and you're a douche that pressumes wikipedia will cover your ass - the same site that at one point said, Joan of Arc died in 1966.Amnestic said:Sigh.
