I'll be getting L4D, just much later than most as it'll undoubtedly require the purchase of a new PC. The demo wouldn't run on this junker so, bang goes that idea. Which is so very annoying as just after quitting WoW about 3 days ago, I'm finding my levels of free time have gone through the roof considerably. Which is a shame as zombies are my worst fear EVER (irrational fears ftw) and this game sounds like such a laugh. Not much I can do other than pray for lots of PC monies :(

I guess I should have said "until I got done playing the demo" in my original post, I did spend more than five minutes with it.

There is something to be enjoyed in Left4Dead it's just not my cup of tea. Maybe if it didn't use the Source Engine or feel like a mod of HL2/Counterstrike/etc. I would have enjoyed it more, or maybe I was missing some grand gameplay element that the rest of you enjoyed.

I'm being overly negative. There were some things I liked. The environments were detailed and well constructed, the zombies acted like zombies should act, and the variety of zombies was great (seriously, do not startle the witch!). Given the choice between this and Resident Evil 5, I'd buy two copies of this and give the extra to the first unfortunate purchaser of RE5.

I'll give the demo a few more tries, but the game probably isn't going to go on my "must have" list. I will give it a novelty award for having the most idiotic non-acronym title. Left 4 Dead, 4 = for, four players. Hah! Oh Valve, what will you clever monkeys think of next?
Amazing how 3 little, well I'm gonna call them words, can spun such an immense response.
Oh you're dangerous Codgo, dangerous!

mspencer82 may I politely ask what games fill your cup of tea? I'm not going to act like a retarded Valve fanboy on you're shiny metal ass (first one to get the reference gets a cookie) just curious about it.
What kind of obscure piece of unknown literature would that come from? I think you are severely overestimating our intelligence here.

Also, I'd have to agree, that for all the people yammering on about how original this game is, it really just feels like a (albeit very well made) mod for CSS/HL2.

It looks great, but I'm a fan of Zombie horror and survival horror in general. Dead rising? I loved it.

After a co-op session with Doc, I'm definitely buying this. Hopefully, in the VALVE Bundle for $US100.

Also, anyone else think that the pistols have to be nerfed? Seriously, having two of those things makes you a zombie killing machine... cool, 'cetp we're supposed to be playing a survival game, based on teamwork and such.
What difficulty where you guys playing on? because you really don't want to be down to pistols only on expert.
Funny enough, we were playing on Advanced. Is there some kind of massive jump between the two difficulties?
Well the dual pistols are still good for picking off the zombies at range one at a time. They are pretty usless for the zombie horde though, you may kill a couple of them even aiming for the head then your going to get swarmed and eaten.

I will admit right away I have a bit of a zombie bias as I do love zombie films. This is probably how the game feels original to me as it makes you feel a part of a zombie movie. Lets also not forget that Counter Strike was nothing more then a mod from Half-Life, so unless you meant price point wise, a mod can be just as fun and original as a full game.

Yes, I plan on getting Left 4 Dead. I just hope it isn't too much firing mindlessly into crowds of zombies. It had better have some more tactical elements, or else I get bored quickly.

Well first off, Counter Strike was made before the year 2000, so it was pretty original for the time. Second, Counter Strike didn't cost $45.

It's re playability is awesome. A friend of mine played the demo for a total of 19.6 hours. Imagine that, 2 maps and he's clocked in 19.6 hours.
The ai director really made a difference. Also the team wok required is actually much more important than it first seems. Sneaking past a witch. Taking down a tank.

IMHO, BUY THE FREAKING GAME

Eh, this whole "It feels like a mod" thing must be due to how moddable the source engine is I suppose. I mean, the source engine looks great, it uses old technology and makes it look new and some people even mistook that intro cutscene for a CGI one (it was just like the "Meet the Team videos") - I guess I just like the source engine a lot so it must not bother me.

A quick note on the poll:
I always think that "Wow, people must be pretty evenly divided, only 38% are buying the game."

Then I realize you should combine the pre-ordered and the will buy, and you get a different picture:

Buying: 150 (64.9%)
Not buying: 30 (13%)
Undecided: 51 (22.1%)

As of 11AM, 11/14/2008

Which means there really isn't much to discuss.
You should buy it. Everyone else is doing it. YOU WANT TO BE COOL RIGHT!?

I WOULD buy, so I voted 'Buying' but I won't have money to buy it nor will I be asking for it for Christmas. It's an amazing game, but not THAT amazing.

And no I WON'T be pirating it.

Preordered, came over 9000 times when I played the demo, and am now waiting for the 18th to get the full game.

There is a lot of custom content out these days, some you pay for and some you don't, but L4D has a lot of polish and it sounds like it will be a relatively long game to sell for $10... I admit $30 seems more reasonable since we don't know exactly how long the campaign is and even with replayability $50 seems a bit high but I'm going to buy it and a lot of other people are too.

L4D has the rare distinction of releasing a demo which made me more excited for the full game. It showed the player a lot of content but only gave you a taste of the settings you would be playing and made me very interested in the Survivors vs. Zombies multiplayer mode. I really doubt it will live up to all my expectations but it should be quite fun.

I hope they fully develop your path through many different kinds of areas. It would be amazing to have your group running down a suburban street and suddenly zombies start pouring out of houses around you or being in the middle of a field and suddenly they are closing in from all sides. The thing I really loved about the demo was how twitchy it made me once I got out onto open streets. Corridor fighting was pretty easy and not very nerve wracking but standing at an intersection with shadows stalking around the edges of your vision was great.

Well by that logic every game made by Valve since Half-Life was a mod. Makes sense huh?
Screw it then, I'm not going to pay $45 for a mod.

-and every game using Unreal Engine 3 = a Mod of Gears of War. (Wat?! Unreal Tournament 3 is a GeOW Mod?)

Oh, and I think this is the first Valve game where there is melee secondary fire, and you can see your legs when you look down! About time!

My brother has been filling my ears and showed me gametrailers, like crazy!

And to be honest, the more I see and hear, the better the game seems.
So well - Yes I might buy it.
