If there's a choice I go for a female character, If I have to watch somebodies arse bouncing for hours it may as well be a female arse

Well, when I see one my first instinct is girl but I know better.

I've only played a few MMOs, but when I was in an extra-jerkish mood, I'd create a female avatar and then dupe some horny idiots into throwing cash and weapons at me. And then I'd give it all away to some random passerby, tell the idiots that no, I wasn't actually a chick, and delete the character. Hopefully, some of those guys learned a valuable lesson.
This. Everyone knows how guys give the girls all their stuff or offer to tank without hesitation... so they take advantage of it. (I don't... but there aren't too many people in my area so it doesn't matter)

Well, as long as they're nice and good company I don't mind who they are :)

I still remember when I first started playing MMOs... Ah, memories. Suddenly getting tons of items and not knowing why... then getting hit on by the creepers D: I was so naive back then.

Well if your gonna stare at an avatars arse for the next 80 or so levels then it might as well be the opposite gender.

I always assume it's a guy. I don't know why. I just do. It just seems like common knowledge... in the MMO world that is.

I treat avatars as genderless. I'm not wasting time or resources on strangers when I don't have to, or don't really get anything out of it. So yeah, don't care what gender most people are.

Depends on the game as to whether I mix up the genders or not. I'l usually run through a game as each gender at least once if it has any effect on the storyline/dialogue regardless of how mediocre that effect may be. Any other games I generally play as a character of my own gender.
A fine example is when playing KotoR2 I started by playing as a male character and then played as a female character (partly down to the Exile being female canonically and partly down to the effect on certain aspects of the story).

There are no wimmins on the interwebs!

But seriously, a hot well endowed avatar is probably a guy just wanting to look at a pair of boobs as he plays.
But I generally don't care as long as they are still playing the bloody game and not trying to be freaky since it is pretty much always a dude.

There are exceptions. But I don't give a flyin' rat's ass.

I don't use mics on computers or avatars of the opposite gender, so I don't have to worry about this.
Also, for whatever reason, on Xbox Live I can never tell girl voices apart from little kids.

I personally don't care whether if it is a girl or not.

Hell, I'll chose the girl character built if the character model is cool.

To me it doesn't matter
Are those communist pokemons?

OT: I don't care, at all.

who cares?

a couple of female gamers added me to their friends list.

I don't play WoW so I can't comment on that cesspool of endless grinding(both ways)

As an Ex wow player i had this problem a few times. First of all skimpy armor means playing a female is liek holding up a sign saying "HORNY TEENS LOOK AT ME". Second of all i think its irrelevant what gender you are. I liked the dreani female look with shamen so i rolled that character, not for any other sinister motive.

To tell if someone is female i refer to them as "he" until i am corrected... or not. If i am corrected i apologise and then refer to them as she. Having used this method i can tell you that although many female avatars are male i did meet quite a few female ones (on mike), all with female avatars.

The whole cyber/harassment thing is sick. How could you live with yourself if you did that, the sheer "WTF AM I DOING?! HAVE I NO LIFE!" ness of it would sicken me.

That reasoning never sits well with me. Do you really sit and stare at your character's ass while playing? I know I don't.

I've actually met a guy who used a female avatar and hit on random players who actually thought he was female, it was more than a little disturbing.

I'll assume it's a girl if it seems so, but will begin to belive it's a dude if certain behaviors appear( I.E. Avatar is "Overdone", randomly flirts, has certain words in username, etc. etc. etc.)

I prefer to use male avatars, using female ones make me feel a little uncomfortable most of the time.

Well as a great way of starting, the people who actually ask for "cybering" are an enigma. They have the guts to ask for something as demeaning as having word sex on the internet but not enough to actually talk to anyone in real life.
The people who go with female avatars are usually the same people who try to attract lonely 12 year olds to a motel nearby only to reveal they're really in their 40s. And a rapist.
