I remember the "Mannix"" Quarry. That was funny.

I don't judge one way over the other

-snip- the thing is you spend most of the game looking at your charcters ass, you might as well like it =3
That reasoning never sits well with me. Do you really sit and stare at your character's ass while playing? I know I don't.
of course not I spend it killing the wyverns >.> its more of the fact that one of my favorite armours in terms of abilities looks excellent on a female but makes the male look like a stripper >.> also there is one armour that for males makes them wear (I kid you not) a thong that cycles through colours... lets say the females armour is much nicer either way theres always something about a female protagonist I have liked...

On WoW I play a female Night Elf Hunter.

It's automatically assumed that I'm a guy in real life.
Good thing I am, huh?

But as for the other way round, I treat all characters I meet in games as genderless beings, mentioning them only by name and never as He/She.

A game that for once makes the males look stupid. I guess it's about time, sounds disturbing though.

I play some MMOs and in every single one I see guys lurking after "girls", I just walk paste unless they say something REALLY ridiculous then I might just have to rant at them and remind them of the rules!

Been a while since I played an MMO.

I never walked up to anyone and asked them. I'd ask them if they ended up in my guild/clan (I was GM), OR if I ended up hanging out with them for any prolonged period of time, and that was just because I wanted to know the person better, not the character. MMOs have a heavy social aspect to it, and if you're going to be playing with someone for a large period of time over it, it's nice to know who you're playing with. I've since stopped playing but I've maintained (online) friendships, both male and female.

So, in summary, I only ask when my interactions with the other player go in depth beyond the game. Asking first is just creepy.

I always play as a female when given the option in a video game, whether or not this has a bearing on the game itself (I.E. Being female in Fallout 3 does more or less nothing, whereas playing as the female in Borderlands changes everything). It started out as a joke, since I played as Princess Peach in SSBB, and a number of female characters in MvC. I've kept it up out of respect for the inside joke.

I almost always have a female avatar in MMO's (alltho the only MMO I've played more than trials is WoW) except for my dwarf because i can't stand the looks of WoW's female dwarves. I also play as female in SP games (where I can choose obviously). I don't really know why tho, I just prefer female characters. While encountering a female char in a MMO I don't care squat if the one playing is male or female. If it's a good player he/she gets on the friends list, I maybe get to know more about the person playing, and if it turns out to be a female IRL, I would be a bit glad considering I think there are still to few female gamers, but that is all.

I've heard that if you're a girl playing an MMORPG, its pretty easy to get someone to buy you stuff. Just like in real life.

Well, since the only games I play where avatars actually matter require you to really roleplay as your character (that is, text-based MUDs), I'm not thinking about the other person's real life gender, nor do I care. All I know is that I'm with another character, just like my own.

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous... I can't see what the motivation would be to have your avatar as this....this....yeah. Perhaps if it's more respectably cool, like your favourite female character who isn't a ridiculous piece of jailbait, then that would be fine.

I'd probably assume it was a guy. Though if I was talking about the character I'd refer to it by whatever gender the avatar is.

But really, who cares?

I believe the question is "Who cares?" and "Does she hax?" or "Does she break the rules" Honestly fair-play is all I care about. It doesn't effect me in any way except the disability to do nutshots on them and of course Im talking about FPS or TPS. Even more on topic I dont care. I played WAR for a few months and the girls I met I just ignored (Unless we were doing a PQ)

Bottomline: I dont actually care but its good to see that theres a mixed result in this wonderful thread.
