Sounds brilliant to be honest, but sadly I'm too in love with PC gaming to switch back to consoles ever again :3

I know this is a little off-topic but it's something that's always bugged me.

"Deep down, you know your best gaming memories happened in the living room."

I have owned consoles and they were never in the living room. I know numerous people who have and do currently own consoles... not one of them has them in the living room. You can't exactly spend much time gaming if you have family when your consoles are there, I mean, they'll probably wanna watch TV. The living room is for FAMILY entertainment and games often aren't that.

I know a lot of people MUST game in their living rooms or this wouldn't be so widespread. It wouldn't have been Microsoft's excuse for trying to stop Alan Wake getting a PC release but I've never gotten it. The only games I can see working from the living room are party games and besides, my bed is much comfier than my couch. :D

Anyway it does sound brilliant. I find myself agreeing with many of the Free Software Foundation's ideals (though not all of them) so a gaming platform based on being free and open source sounds awesome. I also like how some content HAS to be free (commercially), basically ensuring that every game will at least have a free demo. There is little in gaming that angers me more than being on the fence about something that SOUNDS interesting but being unable to test it out and see if it's worth my hard earned money.

I'll be keeping an eye on it, but I dunno if I'll be abandoning PC gaming anytime soon. I'm a PC gamer because I like PC games... and I don't see a console catering for folks with my tastes very much (though having said that, many of the games they mentioned on there were PC games).

I figure as long as it gets some halfway decent homebrew software, it's worth the $99. If it gets solid third party support and turns out to be a decent console in its own right, that's a bonus. But I'm looking forward more to emulators and media players.

Wow, even though I'm a PC gamer, if this thing gets huge why wouldn't it be worth $99?
I really like the idea of trying to break free from the "big 3" when it comes to consoles and not having to have all of the big publishers and devs focus on £40 AAA titles for your console.

Saying that, indie games already exist on PC, it would have to have A LOT of attention from people that make good games for me to consider it.

It's a pity that the android platform for gaming is a complete pile of arse at the moment. The raw power behind PC gaming and even the comparative power in the console market means that it'll start better than the PSPGo, but not a lot better.

Its an interesting idea, though Im not sure how it will be seen by the gaming populace. Game selection is going to be huge though, I hope they realize if you dont have a few great games on their console its going to fail hard.

Personally Im happy with my PC but if they have some exclusives I like I might get one. Its not like the other consoles that are a couple hundred bucks each with $60 games. Oh and to counter their argument, no my best gaming memories were not in the living room they were talking over a voice chat service while hunting down massive creatures to take their stuff. Although to be fair, I do have several good memories gaming on consoles they just arent my best memories

However I support them and hope they succeed. Competition can only help the industry and the consumer

I know what you mean. My best (console) gaming memories are in various bedrooms, the TV in the livingroom spends too much time in use as a TV to double as a gaming monitor. I mean there's some from when I was a very small child, but I mean /very/ young. I had at least a little second hand 13 inch TV in my bedroom from the time I was 8 or 9, at the time mainly used for videogames and VHS tapes. Plus over the air TV, back in the days when Saturday morning cartoons still existed on local channels. Good memories indeed.

This. This a million times.

When you're on a PC in a TS/Ventrilo server with a bunch of people it feels a lot more personal than sitting back on a couch staring collectively at a TV. The best moments of gaming have all been hilarious ones for me, and the majority of them on PC because of the amount of funny shit you can do on PC games like Garrys Mod, League of Legends and TF2.

Also, I remember my first raid boss down on WoW, the NOISE in the Teamspeak channel, holeh sheet.

I'm not sure of the history of this company, but I'm wondering if they're severely underestimating the costs of mass scale manufacturing.

edit: Oh it's Yves Behar. We'll, he's at least got experience with these kinds of things.

A interesting idea. Though it's kinda in a weird place, stuck between phone and console.

Android is probably easier then designing their own OS from scratch, but given that the android marketplace is kinda messy, and (android) isn't suited optimally for gaming performance.

The only games I can see working from the living room are party games and besides, my bed is much comfier than my couch. :D
Here's my experience with console locations:
My house has three TV's, all of them plasma screen. The largest is in my parent's room since they watch pay per view sports and they have a large library of DVDs. That TV is never used for gaming because there is too much clutter around.
The second TV is in the living room. It's flanked by an Xbox and a cable box. All the physical games fit on the shelves above the Xbox. If I ever get bored I can turn on Netflix and either sit on the long couch, short couch or the chair in the middle. If my brother walks by and demands to play then I get off and three steps later I'm next to my PC. No hassle or anything.
The last TV is in my brother's room. Unlike the other two he doesn't have cable; the TV is strictly for computer monitor use. He makes up for it by having two computers and all of our old consoles in his closet. Consoles that we originally had in the living room.

1. Everyone has their own TV (except me) so we don't fight at all.
2. We often have friends over and sitting on couches is a lot less creepy than dog piling on the bed then figuring out some people need to stand.
3. Idk, most advertisements from after the VG Crash of Olden Times show the family enjoying games, not just one person. It sort of got ingrained in the culture?

So many Kickstarter links in my Escapist Forums lately.

If their Minecraft is going to actually be the fully updated and to-date version, then sweet.

Thinking about it I can definitely understand point 2. I have a friend whose house we regularly go to and when we're playing games you can only get two people on the bed. Fortunately he has a desk chair and a comfortable floor positioned in such a way that we can all still see the TV but I guess it would be much more convenient to have sofas in that situation. If it were MY room anyone not on the bed wouldn't be able to see anything.

I can also see how a big, cinematic experience might feel better on a big screen, but as I'm not a fan of cinematic experiences (or cinema, really) that never really occurs to me.

Just checked with the kickstarter page. Why is everyone still giving them money? WHY!? That extra shit is going straight to their pockets, you know.
