I'm here, too, but I don't think 9/11 is something to dwell on. Remember, yes, but to cite current events, not something to hate a whole religion for.

Anyways, I'd love to see that list. Shouldn't we know why people can be prohibited from visiting our country?
No no no, I didn't mean dwell on 9/11, simply, I know who was in charge when 9/11 went down, and I know who shaped US policy for the 7 years following 9/11, and it wasn't Obama. I just meant that emailing him, with a beef over 9/11 seems absolutely retarded. lol.

I'd be interested in seeing the list myself, and I wonder how the list was created, did people actually think this shit up, or was it a case by case basis...as in, so far these acts have gotten people banned. heh.
Hey, people have done worse things while drunk, so I'm not too surprised. As for the list, I'm sure the people who ban the visitors have enough time on their hands to think up reasons to ban them for.

i would like to have seen the content of said email instead of an article describing the email.

but yes if he did threaten the American president, i think he should be banned.

I've been talking about this with some mates and they all said the same thing; why would he WANT to go to America?

All kidding(?) aside, it was a bit of a harsh punishment for sending an angry email. And he was drunk. And he apologised after and said it was a joke.
Harsh punishment?

It's not his own country! It is a PRIVILEGE to visit a country that you are not a citizen of. It's like being told:

"you can no longer enter that house"

It's not your house! You had no right nor even reason to go in there.

This is ridiculous.

I presume the FBI is going to eject Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh from the United States for insulting the president too?
wow I love when idiots get involved without thinking.
Yes because everybody knows the FBI hasn't heard about them yet, but when they find out that a couple guys are bashing obama, oh boy are they gonna be shipped out.
Because that happens all the time, right?
You actually completely missed the sarcasm didn't you? Of course the FBI isn't going to kick them out, that's the whole point.

Freedom of speach eh?
Just like all of our liberties, there are limits to them.

He isn't missing much anyway. Too bad he'll never get to visit New York City though?aside from that, it's all strip malls and Walmarts.

Bad puns aside, this is hilariously ridiculous. Shouldn't the US free speech thing apply to everyone?
But it was amusing nevertheless. Well played, FBI. I wonder if the people offering Obama viagra and a free college degree receive bans too...
It's cool that no one knows what free speech means. It doesn't mean "say what you want and get away with it". It means you're entitled to have an opinion and express it, but there may or may not be consequences. Free speech is not the right to say whatever you want and get off scot-free. It is the right to have opinion. Whether your opinion and what you say merits a punishment depends on what you say.

"The individual sent an email to the White House full of abusive and threatening language."

"threatening".

Clearly it wasn't just name calling.

Free speech is acceptable.

Abuse towards one person or group of people is speakable but constitutes a crime because it's not acceptable in society.

End of.

That's pretty ridiculous. Sounds more like someone in the FBI is having a bad day and decided to do the full extent of his wrath on some Brit.
Even though it's weird and unexpected, it's not like he's missing anything if he NEVER sees America. You'd be surprised just how many people do in the world :p

Since he apparently threatened the president, I can understand the government's angle on this one. Threatening the president of a country is never a good idea. Still, banning him might be a bit extreme. How about a fine and a criminal record?

Also, this doesn't get covered by free speech. If what you say is offensive and/or threatening to others, you may face concequences. That's how it works.

LoL, dunno about you, but I've been all types of trashed in my day, and never once did I get it into my head that sending a hatemail to the President would be amusing heh.

idve liked to have been hanging out with him while he sent it, though tbf if i was i probably wouldve made the language more constructive

I don't think that it's at all fair, but I do find it hilarious that someone was basically permabanned from America for abusive language.
wow, now that you mention it like that, that's horrible

horrible horrible horrible

wow, the government can't punish people for saying anything, even to the president (heck ESPECIALLY to the president). You should be able to say whatever you want to the president without any fear of reprisal from the government.. might get a punch in the mouth from a "patriot", but the government should have no jurisdiction over speech.
I believe the applicable term here is "Double standard".
Also interesting:
One prez gets fired for having an affair, in his office. Another wipes his ass with his country's ideals and nothing happens.
Clinton never got fired.
He also wasn't fired because he had an affair, the big problem was that he lied to the American people

We can burn the Qu'ran and picket the funerals of hate crime victims. We can say whatever we please as long as it doesn't endanger anyone. I don't think sending a drunken, abusive e-mail to the president was an act of brilliance (especially since he wasn't the president when 9/11 happened...), but he shouldn't have been banned for the country.

A note: I don't AGREE with burning the Qu'ran or with anything Westboro Baptist does...I'm just saying that they don't get banned from the country for doing it.

Let's look at the arguments against him being banned.

Lol free speech: this does not mean you can say anything you want. harsh opinions are fine, but threatening violence is illegal, especially when you're threatening the leader of a powerful country.

He was drunk get over it: Being under the influence isn't an acceptable excuse for anything. Would you make this argument for a drunk driver who kills someone? We are responsible for the decisions we make while intoxicated, since we made the decision to intoxicate ourselves. If this guy can't control himself when drunk, he still has to face those consequences.

America doesn't have the right to ban people, this is a free Earth!: Take it up with the U.N. sparky. Banning people from a country is not something that is new or even unique to the U.S.

America doesn't care about X, but this is a big deal?: Yeah I know, we let a lot of shit slide. I don't like how often terrorist are treated like average citizens, and I don't like how often murderers walk but that doesn't mean you should let all offenses go. An injustice here does not mean injustice should be there as well, in other words.

I actually don't think it's fair that he got away with a simple ban. If it was an American citizen, he would be sentenced to five years in jail and have to pay a $250,000 fine. He should be considered lucky he wasn't extradited and tried.
