LOL!

I laugh at people who say it's okay to send dumb emails to important people.

You aren't the center of the fucking universe, your ideals are shit since you have no tact and are unable to represent yourself in an orderly fashion.

actually, they can deny entry at the boarders to anyone.
They shouldn't be allowed to. You shouldn't be able to own the world.

Ok wow, I agree with the "people can't own land" thing but saying we have no free speech and that you have more than anybody else is about the most ignorant thing I have ever heard...almost.

Your country has limitations first of all, maybe you don't know it yet but they all do.
Our country has no free speech? Are you shitting me? A guy goes on television or the radio and tells people that our president is nothing but a puppet and that our entire government is run by an evil group that controls our thoughts with commercials. That guy has not been shut down, none of them have to my knowledge. What makes you think we have no fee speech at all?

When people are able to say on national television that the president is secretly a Muslim spy, its kind of silly to think we are run by a fascist regime. That won't happen until they find a good excuse for it.
Okay, after reading that bit sober, I agree with you. I'm not an ignorant person usually. In my defence though, I was drunk and I had put something less ignorant but even stupider at the time. I was feeling slightly too nationalistic at the time too. But if your country was going to become a fascist regime then they won't need an excuse. The only thing stopping them is the fear of people rebelling and them losing power. My apologies about my drunken ignorance.

They also agreed to sell the land and were suprised when the white man began to kick 'em off. Can't sell what you don't own. Too bad they didn't realize we don't care.
They didn't sell the land. They were forced off it by war and tricks by the White Americans. They moved from reservation to reservation because the White Americans couldn't keep to their promises. There were so many treaties that were made and broken because of their greed that the Native Americans had no choice but to live the way of the Whites.

As I recall they also believed that free blankets were a good deal, and that their ancestors would protect them from automatic weapons and artillery..
So? They were firm in what they believed. It may have been wrong but remember that the Native Indians also managed to defeat Custer and his entire Regiment of men even though they were ambushed. They may not have understood these new technologies but they knew how to use them well enough to make the army shit themselves

He was drunk, and a teenager (Over here, College is more like High School. You start at 16, finish at 18, and then move on to University.). He wasn't expressing any "ideals". He just got pissed, and decided that sending an insulting email to the President of the United States would be funny.

He wasn't representing himself; he was having a laugh. A very stupid laugh, admittedly, but a laugh all the same.

"College student Luke Angel has been banned from visiting the United States for life after he drunkenly emailed President Barack Obama. Angel had just watched a TV program about 9/11 and decided it would be a good idea to send Obama an abusive email. Turns out calling the U.S. president a 'pr**k' is not the best way to make friends in the FBI.

Sky News reports that the FBI intercepted the message and notified British police, who in turn contacted the local police force in the youth's town of Silsoe, Bedfordshire. A Bedfordshire Police spokesman told Sky: "The individual sent an email to the White House full of abusive and threatening language.

"We were informed by the Metropolitan Police and went to see him. He said, 'Oh dear, it was me'."" -- toms hardware, link at bottom of post.

dunno if this article was already featured here but its worth taking a look at, i did a search for previous posts but to no avail.

He is not American. He has no automatic right to enter the United States.

People seem to get the idea that Visa is just a pointless technicality, no, it actually means an "invitation" to visit a country.

This is like sending someone a drunken and abusive phone-call/text to a home owner and acting all surprised when they don't get invited over next time there is a party there. Access to the united states is not some sovreign right that every person on the face of the earth has a right to, and that applies for ALL countries, no one has an automatic right to enter the UK... especially if they bad mouthed the Queen!

YES this should disqualify him from earning a Visa.

BUT(!) I think he should be given a chance to earn his way back into the country's good books, maybe if he apologised for his bad and threatening behaviour toward the country's leader and go to efforts to prove that he was just being an idiot and had no real malicious intent.

(also, it seems he is another one of those 9/11 deniers in which case I have no sympathy for him.)

Hmm, when did "it's OK if the perpetrator thought it was funny" become a good excuse?

Also I had no idea you could so easily just "no longer represent yourself" normally you'd need a psychiatrists to designate you insane before you are no longer considered responsible for your actions.

Was he the only person in the world that doesn't know that the US takes things way too seriously?

Shouldn't he get a warning first? Banning someone from the county because he did one stupid thing that's not even threatening is really extreme.

This seems a tad hypocritical, no? First Amendment and Human Rights not matter?

Actually, no, they don't. Slander, libel, threats, and vulgarities are not covered by Freedom of speech. That's why the government can censor nakedness and bleep words without the Supreme Court throwing a hissy fit (most of the time). And we all know the US's record of double standards and fickleness with Human Rights, so they don't really matter either.

From what I understand, freedom of expression of accusation extends to charges that are both justified (So no baseless slander), and worded appropriately (So excessive vulgarity isn't kosher).

Really though, it depends what he said. I assume it must've been quite abusive, and I doubt he's covered by any free speech laws, but I do think that the government was a tad harsh.

I doubt he'd even want to go to the USA anyway, if he's busy ripping the crap out of its leader via emails.

I want to know where the hell he got the president's email.

I think perma-banning the guy is a bit harsh, but I think America and England could've sat down, had a chat about the lad threatening the president, and negotiate something acceptable and humane.

Though this way; more epic lolz?

EDIT: Oh shit; Ban Hero.

Ohh, I think it's a silly over reaction. But most of you dont really have the right perspective on this.

See, it's not someone being punished for exersizing free speech.

Punishment means taking away rights and privileges, but the thing is that with some exeptions like among the EU countries, any country basically has the right to choose wheter or not a foreigner enters their border.
Technically, it's kinda like an invitation only party. That is why you have things like visas.

So if they say the guy cant enter the US, they're not taking away any rights or anything. They've basically said they wont invite the guy over to their party.

And since free speech from the US constitution doesnt extend to non-US nationals.. well...

There is no US domestic law nor international law or treaty saying they have to allow the guy in.

It's not like I think he did anything that bad, y'know. But if you're going to insult the host, he has the right to not let you in his house ;)

Sounds like a Street Fighter move... Hmm...

OBAAAAAAAAAMAAAAAAAAA! HAAAAAAMMMMMAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR! x]

Edit: Sounds like an SF move Zangief would have. =D

In all seriousness though, this is ridiculous. You can't ban someone from America for abusing the President, I mean, its like he just told his mum and she said, "well you can't invite him round any more". Except the entire country of America is his house. =/
