Portal 2, with Dead Space 2 running in a close second. I pretty much loved every moment of those games, and both of them managed to snag immediate places on my top five favourite games list (first and fourth, respectively). They're also two of the only games I've ever been completely comfortable paying the initial release price for.

On a side note, it's looking more and more like Saints Row The Third will (coincidentally) become my personal third best game of 2011. It just has the general look of something that will turn out to be completely amazing, you know?

Bastion.

I just loved the game. Everything about it I found incredible. The art style, narration, gameplay, story and music (even bought the soundtrack). For me, it was just a damn near perfect game.

Portal 2 and Shadows of the Damned are close contenders though.

Considering the only new game I played this year was the witcher 2, I'll vote for that one and I enjoyed it immensely.

Contenders for the topspot that I'll acquire soon? are Bastion and Skyrim.

Portal 2? it was pretty good, not as unexpected or original than the 2007 original, but I will give it this, the game was funnier.

Dead Space 2; Haven't completed it yet; but it is ridiculously good and beats everything else SO FAR, excluding one game...

Pokemon: FUCK ANYTHING THAT'S NOT OG or JOHTO (The ChillzMaster is Nostalgia Blind)

LA Noire: They made a game about doing a job. Other than being a test subject in Portal and "Soldier" in FPS number 453, is there any game out there based on doing a specific occupation for a weekly monetary sum and is NOT boring? Good faces though...

Duke Nukem Forever: ...here's a high-five *smack* and a hope that Gearbox does ya justice next time around ol' buddy.

What DID rock the year so far was Bastion, GOD I LOVE BASTION I LOVE BASTION SOO MUCH! Action-Adventure RPG's with awesome customization and the perfect meld of Gameplay and Story in the form of a sexy-ass narrator! GAWD I MUST PLAEY MOAR!

My vote brought it back to a tie between deus ex and portal 2
Well thats not surprising the other games on the list arent GOTY material.
But at the the end of the day this isnt going to matter soon when the hyped up titles are released they will probably have at least a few that blow these ones away.

I honestly hope better choices than those listed exist.

I loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution, even more than Portal 2 which I was convinced that I thought that would be the best game of the year. This has been a damn good year as far as games are concerned.

As far as pure fun goes? I'd probably say Space Marine. It's really, really fun.
Wow, wasn't expecting the most repetitive and lackluster game that simply had exploding bodies everywhere to ever be considered "fun".
I think it is awesome that you have come to this thread with absolutely ZERO input on the actual subject matter, rather just trying to gauge reactions out of people to incite a flame war? That bored? Take a walk, bro.

I'm going to have to vote for a very unpopular choice. Dragon Age 2. Sure it may have been dumbed down from Origins, but Bioware was trying something new. I appreciate what they tried given their obvious constraints, but I really thought it to be a very well written game. Each character was written for and voiced exceptionally, and the story over all... well I just have to say I loved it. Sure it's something that's been done before, same as a majority of the plot twists but so had DA:O. Both are great games in their own right with DA:O being the obvious superior, DA2 should not be so harshly judged in my opinion. It was an absolute blast to play through.

Portal 2 and Deus Ex HR were fantastic and some of my favourite games ever, but Bastion I will remember the most fondly for a very long time to come.

I preferred Space Marine to Dragon Age 2, and I really tried to like Dragon Age 2 but it was a chore and throughout the entirety of the game the only reason to continue was merely to get to the end, not because I enjoyed it.

It was an abomination of gaming because it was warped in every way.

I came to post and then saw a Space Marine supporting post which AMAZED me because of the terrible average quality of that game.

Dear, dear lovely internet person. This thread is about voting for an opinion not flaming others for theirs. Try someone else, I am untouchable. My vote is mine, my opinion is mine. Why are you afraid to state yours instead of making crappy attempts to insult others for theirs? ;)

My opinion is already all across this forum, I have not hid it, Pokemon Red is still the best game even if it was made many years ago, and because of its sheer awesomeness, it wins every time.

*Cough*

I don't think the games were good enough yet to even warrant a "best of" as that'd be an insult since most of it was crap and that which wasn't had so much wrong with it that even if it was a great game it was still not really that good compared to what else could have come out.
